Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, Sunset Shores would be wonderful stage, too, but I just think Mole Train would be a refreshing change of pace from jungles, etc. Besides, the 3DS version already has a DK stage at sunset (albeit without the silhouette effect).

The Pichu Bros. are actual characters from the show (a Mini-Movie and a few specials) though, although it'd make more sense to go all the way and use Plusle and Minun.

I agree that the design is one of his best. Perhaps the glacial pace and uninspired moveset of the Brawl incarnation that came with it soured it in people's minds?

That Sonic is lacking a side mouth so no.
Knuckles was in the previous leak. Plus, they said they're going for clones. Knuckles as a heavier Sonic with a gliding/wall cling mechanic seems like an easy way of making a fun clone.
That said, yeah, I'd rather get someone else. Not a big fan of Knuckles. I'd rather have
