Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

It's usually pre-installed on the SD card. The only one (that I can recall) that was bundled with a game that wasn't pre-installed was the ALBW one.

Ouch, that's pretty bad.

Oh! I'm blind. Haha. Sorry. Thank you! (Hopefully that's just for the first "chapter" of stages or something! Seems like a super short Classic mode otherwise....)

Oh, yeah, there are a lot of characters. So maybe it would be good for Classic Mode to be short if they expect people to play through it with every character.

No problem. I'm glad that it's shorter so I can bumrush everything with 50 characters without feel that it would be repetitive.

Heath have you done a system transfer before? Would my network ID, VC games friendlist and everything transfer?

Nope, but my friends did. Yeah it would transferred everything (I think) but you will lose pre-installed smash game according to someone that i just quoted.

Come on NoA, announce this. This is what I've been waiting to upgrade to an XL for :(
So they've only shown the red one for EU right? Watch the US get only a blue version. Wouldn't be surprised.

Hm, kind of nervous about there not being a new Donkey Kong stage on the 3DS version. You would never encounter past stages in Classic Mode in either Melee or Brawl. Kinda worried.

It's red because that's the main color of Smash 4 3DS, an American version would probably be the same colour.

If there's going to be any blue limited edition smash hardware, it's going to be a WiiU.

That XL is ugly as hell.
Black and white looks horrid should have just been black silhouettes. If I need to get a XL ill end up just getting the black it looks like now.

Oh yeah. A lot of people recently have been asking about character reveal dates and the lengths of time between them, so here you go (with Meta Knight added):

2013

6/11/13 (E3 2013): Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, Bowser, Pit, Villager, Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer
7/12/13 (Pikmin 3 Japanese release date): Olimar & Pikmin
8/7/13 (Pic of the Day): Luigi
9/12/13 (Pic of the Day): Peach
9/26/13 (Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Japanese release date): Toon Link
10/1/13 (Nintendo Direct): Sonic
11/7/13 (Pic of the Day): Marth
12/18/13 (Nintendo Direct): Rosalina & Luma
12/26/13 (Zelda: A Link Between Worlds Japanese release date): Zelda

2014

1/10/14 (Kirby Triple Deluxe Japanese release date): King Dedede
1/31/14 (Pic of the Day): Lucario
2/13/14 (Nintendo Direct): Little Mac
2/21/14 (Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze US release date): Diddy Kong
4/8/14 (Smash Direct 1): Zero Suit Samus, Sheik, Yoshi, Charizard, Greninja
5/23/14 (Pic of the Day): Ike
6/11/14 (E3 2014): Mii Fighters, Palutena, Pac-Man
7/14/14 (Announcement Video): Lucina, Captain Falcon, Robin
8/13/14 (Pic of the Day): Meta Knight

So the longest gaps between character reveals are those between Marth/Rosalina & Luma and Diddy Kong/the Smash Direct crew.

Derp on my part then lol.

But a blue Wii U? Ummmmm, ew. Or at least the one I'm imagining it to look like.

But I thought that mode was online on the 3DS?

I think you might be able to play it online, but that's fine seeing as it's already a mode in the base 3DS game.

Adding smash run on the WiiU as an online only mode would be a waste of resources imo considering it's not a part of the WiiU base game and when they could be improving the online vs. features instead.

It's possible that there's a secret DK stage that hadn't been unlocked yet. I mean, that franchise does have two characters. I bet it has one.

Maybe you do now? I think it'd be fine to fight on classic stages, so you're not fighting on the same level over and over from series with only one level and one retro level (like Mother)

K thanks

No way I would've been able to stay up for that update, but I called it. I knew there was no way Sakurai would have that MK mask saying he's entered the battle and not introduce Metaknight later on
I was just a day off

Also, does this mean the altered BiTF comic is now ruined as Metaknight most likely killed "Metaknight"

MK gonna be OP again, calling it. /s

Also, boo that Break the Targets isn't on the 3DS version. Even though I jokingly said it was "deconfirmed" a week or two ago because of the Famitsu scans I'm surprised it's actually true. Target Blast, frankly, looks awful and isn't a good replacement IMO (unless they weren't going to make Break the Targets levels character specific, then I guess this is OK).

It's probably 6 stages on 3DS because developers have the mentality (and probably rightfully so) that most people can't sit down for long periods of time to play a portable game, so they make levels a bit more bite-sized. 6 stages for classic mode will take like 15-20 minutes, which is about the average length for most portable stages, like in KI:U, Luigi's mansion Dark moon, etc. Wouldn't be surprised if it was longer on Wii U, though it may not be (due to ease of just copy/pasting the mode). It makes 'clear classic mode with all characters' less painful, for sure.

The smash 3DS is also a bit disappointing. I don't remember a special edition 3DS ever using the cover art or a variation of it for the 3DS itself. Usually you get logos, symbols, A character. I think people were expecting a smash ball or something.

Also, glad metaknight's back. I'll acknowledge that monday was a tease, even though I said it wasn't necessarily so. Glad his glide is gone, glad gliding is seemingly gone from the game. Glad there's no sight of his tornado, so far. Hope it's also replaced.

I understand being disappointed, but "awful"?

I don't really think the two are comparable, outside of both using targets as objectives. It looks fun! Different and new, but fun!

For all of 5 minutes.

Also Different and new? It's a copy of a flash game from years ago, proper break the targets is more unique than target smash.

Eh, maybe I was exaggerating a bit I guess. I'm not really interested in it regardless, though.

I mean, I'll obviously try the mode out but I don't think it'll be very fun for me like Break the Targets was.

I've actually been looking for an excuse to upgrade to an XL lately and a Smash version would be the perfect excuse.

If it wasn't so ugly.

I think the fact that it's NOT just a Smash Ball or a logo is why most people really dig it. When people were brainstorming what the Smash 3DS would look like the consensus was really resigned to it just being a logo, which wouldn't exactly rush people to stores to get a new 3DS, especially if they already have one.

This though? This is very cool. I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out the best selling LE - but we'll wait and see. I'm sorry you, and others, aren't into it though. I think it's way better than we could have expected.

Edit: I do think it's weird though the characters aren't aligned along the hinge as a base. Now when you open the 3DS all the characters are upside down. Nintendo needs to take a cue from laptops in this case.

We don't even know how many levels there are to it, five minutes is a bit premature. Besides, what are the odds we'd have gotten proper break the targets over another gimped one like Brawl? There's even more characters this time around.

I don't really have an issue with it being derivative of Castle Clout/Crush the Castle/Angry Birds/Whatever Else either. It's still a unique spin on the "genre" and it's still tied into the mechanics of Smash.

You're free to dislike it, but you shouldn't be looking at it as the "replacement" for Break the Targets, or pinning blame on it for it not existing this time.

That's totally fair, I just don't want to see everyone caught in the trap of directly comparing it to Break the Targets. It's just going to make for some sour impressions when the two have little in common outside of destructable targets.

We got confirmation of no BTT on 3DS? :(

New mode looks ok, but we need real BTT, BTP, and HRC. Sakurai PLS

I'm wondering if Meta Knight is going to be the last character we receive before the release.

It's likely that we're not going to get another character reveal this week. Monday is the 18th, and the 3DS version comes out in Japan on September 9th. Like all big games, the game will leak out well in advance.

Sakurai has about 2.5 weeks left if he wants to formally reveal anything before the leaks start coming in.

I was thinking of buying the eventual Smash 3DS but after seeing what it looks like I'm gonna have to reconsider. Don't really like the design. The color's alright I guess.

Yay, Metaknight is back. Didn't know anyone expected otherwise, he's a recognized, loved character. Hardly the same situation as Lucas D: Sakurai is toying with my feelings.

No you won't lose the pre installed game. When you do a system transfer it does delete the game off your system, but you can redownload it in the eshop.

And to think people acted like Monday's image meant he was cut.

Honestly, I kinda wished you could play on retro stages in at least Brawl. Having to fight the Mother characters on New Pork City when Onett is so far better designed in all aspects was just dire.

Well, the site has a page that discusses the Stadium mode and the only sub-modes listed under it are HRC, Target Blast, and Multi-Man Smash. And, since we know that Stadium modes aren't really ever unlockable* it's safe to assume BTT is not in the 3DS version. There's a chance it's in the Wii U version but then if it is we have to hope it's done right. I mean, Target Blast hasn't been confirmed for the Wii U version yet... so there's always a chance for the console BTT and BTP can make it.

*: I'm aware of Boss Battles in Brawl being unlockable but seeing as that was tied to SSE that's more of a one-off unlockable mode in Stadium and not likely to be repeated unless there's a plethora of bosses in Classic mode.
