Haven't seen the pictures yet, and I hope I never will...even if they are fake. I refuse to remember him like that. Robin was a funny, kind, amazing and inspirational man. A great actor and comedian. One of a kind - a true icon.

I appreciate his incredible contribution to the world and I'll never forget about him as long as I live. His legacy will live on.

Going to rewatch my favorite movies of his this weekend starting with Hook as it was one of the first I saw him in while growing up. Tears will be shed.

Rest in peace, Robin.

The comments that affect me more are in the "...he was only an actor, troops get killed everyday" vein

Terrible. He was a human and suffering. That we don't celebrate and mark their passing does not make it wrong to celebrate and mark his. The brigade permanently swirling Twitter et al desperate to churn out 'hypocrisy', faux indignation and take pot shots at people grieving make me want to avoid 'social' media more than any other force possible

I'm glad you don't know what true suffering is, and I actually hope for your sake that nothing will force you to change your view on this. What you say is pretty hurtful to people who do understand this however. Please keep that in mind.

This is the best response I've seen towards Radec. Thank you.

that's a really odd comparison, considered he affected more lives than any low level soldier ever did.

How utterly awful.

Poor Zelda. Some people are horrible shitstains :-(

For fuck sake, her Dad just died, why would you ever want to do that?

You said it yourself, people are shitstains.

I want to remember Robin Williams as Peter Pan, the crazy guy from Jumanji, Patch Adams, and one of the greatest stand up comedians to ever grace this earth.

I don't want to know the details or see any pictures.

And to the person who leaked any of pictures, FUCK YOU!!!

Robin Williams joked about losing half of his half of his money through divorces (was even going to name his special about alimony). But I think going from Hollywood superstar (who was still exploited by Disney) to just making the minimum scale including a quickly cancelled sitcom (which he admits was a financial necessity, needed a regular source of income) must've hurt him more than just financially. On Letterman he joked about "where's that thing? oh that's right it's gone now". He was overworked and over-stressed at 63, RIP

This is a decent article chronicling the tortured soul that was Robin Williams since 1983, RIP:

That sounds like a very believable narrative. Going from the top to the bottom like that is enough to destabilize even a perfectly healthy individual. And as much as we all love Robin, I don't think he was ever entirely stable. It's a shame he didn't employ someone trustworthy to help him take better care of his finances and his overall stability. I mean he probably did, at least some of the time, but it's sad that whatever precautions taken by himself/people close to him weren't enough.

What the fuck is wrong with people, that is vile beyond words. I don't know if trolls find there is a disconnect or disassociation with the fact that people on the internet are actually real life people. Either that or they are just straight up sociopaths. I leaning towards the latter, fucking pieces of shit.

Some people are really low and have no shame nor a shrid of humanity, poor girl.

Oh god, that's sick. Something similar happened to a friend of mine in school. The father was devastated, but the coroner and his asshole kid who took the pictures got off scot free. The worst part was the local paper dropping hints about the method of death, which proves not all sociopaths live on the internet.

Another reason to be glad GAF is a well moderated forum.

The internet gives space and venue to the nastiest people in the world without a filter or gate.

Disgusting.

Twitter is at the same time the greatest and worst invention, that people think they can act like complete arseholes on it just blows my mind and I am disgusted that Twitter does nothing about it. Would love to see what these idiots look like in real life, I bet they wouldn't say boo to a goose in person.

Absolutely disgusting that people would stoop so fucking low and do that to a person grieving the death of her father. Seriously, vile people out there. Feel really bad for her. Hope she's doing ok.

The pictures are fake. But it's nonetheless horrific that people would do such a thing.

It's one of the few positives in a future when authorities/government knowing precisely what people are doing online... they can track these people down and really punish them. Really deter the cowards from similar behaviour in the future.

I'm watching The Fisher King for the first time. What an incredible guy.

Robin Williams had never been one of my favorite actors, but he was such a huge part of my childhood that it's hard to believe he's gone. It's so tragic that Mr. Williams, and so many other depressed persons, aren't able to get the help they need.

Everyone one of you has probably read the Cracked article by now, but I feel that it should be shared again here. Depression is such a horrible thing, and I'm duly grateful that I'm not afflicted by it myself.

Robin Williams was such a wonderful guy, and his death has had an impact on me that I really didn't expect. It's wonderful that so many people recognize how great he was. I really appreciate all of the kind words about the man, on the internet and elsewhere.

Thanks for sharing, I only read it now and he's absolutely right.
But I think it goes even deeper than that.

On an abstract level, comedy is a construction designed to contribute to others' well being in order to gain acceptance, even if it's artificial acceptance.

I can't help but think about how many other meaningful contributions to society were made by people whose actual goal in life, whether they knew it or not, was to belong and to be loved. We have this kind of automatic hardwired behavior to cast out many among us who are different. We put them in a position where in order to gain the same level of acceptance as the rest of us, they have to prove their worth empirically. And in the end we continue to reap the benefits of their labor long after they have gone. But during their time on earth seldom do we give them the real acceptance they deserve.

We give praise, we honor and respect, even envy, because those are cheap substitutes for acceptance. They're easy to hand out, they require zero effort from us, and in the long run they mean very little to those who receive them.

I seriously hope the two people who trolled Zelda about Robin's death die a slow horrible death. I don't care how horrible that makes me sound I cannot stand people like that, they're worthless human garbage.

It wouldn't matter if people were sending Zelda MS Paint depictions of her father's death. The fact people think to use the relative anonymity to be any kind of an asshole, let alone a gigantic one like the people sending Zelda the picture, is terrible.

What the fuck am i reading. I feel so bad for her, as if her dad's death wasn't enough, now you have the worst scums of the Earth saying these things.

Yeah, it just sucks. I rarely get upset about celeb deaths. I just can't believe he went through with it. He set the bar so high for acting and comedy. That he ended such a prolific run by hanging himself is utterly shocking. Depression can completely break you down, but he had to know he was leaving behind a legacy being cut short by his own doing, and is the last thing people will remember him by... that in and of itself creeps me out when you think back to all the things he did, and then how his life abruptly ended by his own actions. Every time you see a movie he did, you will now know this.

Yep. Terrible to see someone take their own life, but it looks like problems in his life got to him.

It's hard watching his films on TV, but that is what he should be remembered for.

Dude. What the hell. Are these people doing this to be funny or are they genuinely mean? I don't even understand the angle. Some people don't deserve the right to free speech
