The Order 1886 Gamescom Gameplay Trailer

Someone asked about destruction and it is in the game just not seemingly to a larger degree. In the newest video from the :52-:56 mark he destroys whatever the enemies were standing behind. Also in the E3 trailer before he blows up the furnace with the thermite rifle he destroys the wood covering in the upper left corner.

Also we have seen the shotgun blow someones arm off and it is said the arc rifle can completely sever limbs or incinerate them. Cant wait.

Particle effects look so realistic. The muzzle flash and glowing embers... sogood.gif
Did his arm just explode !?!?!?!?!?!?!?
YESSSSSS Gore!!!

Only problem here is that my trained eyes notice the singular pointy specular highlight from a point light even though the scene has multiple lights hanging from that lamp.
Indeed, I hope that they can get area lights working, larger light source should look somewhat better.
Other than that, very impressive and stable graphics.

Max Payne was a longggg time ago dude. Remedys track record has been far less impressive since then. RAD hasn't really made any big new IP or console game yet, but their reputation and critical acclaim with the ones they have made, are among the best of any similar developer out there.

I think The Order is most likely going to be the better game, but that's just my personal prediction. The Order certainly looks more polished, the gunplay more satisfying and refined, and the weapons, narrative, characters, lore and setting more unique and attractive.

Remedy made Alan Wake, another story based solid TPS.

Ready At Dawn has made.... a bunch of handheld games for other people's IPs.

I think The Order had potential but the gameplay looks horrid. It's literally showing us that its a corridor shoot and gun game. I have yet to see any sort of meaningful strategy/thought behind its mechanics other than "run and shoot those guys, take cover in this blatantly placed crate here because we're gonna throw a big wave of guys at you now".

It merely looks like they got a bigger budget than Remedy did to me.

But that isn't true, even from the previews. With the mix of creative weaponry, the slow down time etc, there is at least some degree of tactical diversity on offer. For example a lot of journalists mentioned using the thermite rifle in numerous different ways for tactical advantage. Fact that there are even weapons like the thermite rifle, arc cannon, concussion shotgun, limb exploder etc already gives it a bit of extra drama, diversity and personality.

watch the trailer again 1:10 in is an open combat area on a pier/dock then at 1:41 there is a crossbow? section in the rain followed immediately by him sneaking up behind someone and taking them out with his blade. There is a lot more going on and I am starting to get a serious TLOU vibe from this game.

Remedy certainly innovated with TPS mechanics with MP and AW...but in the case of AW I felt they made the clunkiest, most laborious TPS I have ever played. I thought the combat was pretty atrocious. At least QB looks like it has snappy combat, even if they protag does run like a hunch back.

Sounds like QB to me :p

Graphics are nice but the gameplay looks extremely generic and boring.

Quantum Break is developed by Remedy... who created Max Payne 1 and 2. Ripping them off? Haha.

Quantum Break's gameplay looks lot more interesting than this. And Remedy has the pedigree of knowing how to do TPS and story together well.

Kinda wishing these exclusives were flipped imho. I own a PS4 and would rather have Quantum Break than The Order.

I've already been burned by pretty graphics and bad gameplay once with my PS4, it's called Killzone Shadowfall.

Thank god for opinions ;)

I love tps if I owned a xb1 id be all over Qb but I don't so I won't and in no way would I swap the two, FOH lol. I don't think Qb graphics look bad but compared to rad's the order? Not even close imo.

The weapons in the order look as interesting as I've seen in a tps, directly ties into gameplay and looks anything but boring or generic to me Gimme dat thermite rifle!

What does this have to do with kz? Different developers different games.

Haven't been super impressed by what I saw before this, but damn this game is looking really nice. I don't think it's going to set the world on fire in the gameplay department, but technically it seems worth the price of admission.

if it does just this one thing extremely well, I'm fine with that.

I just realized all that early hype about soft-body physics destructibility and whatnot turned out to be misguided. :P Too bad it didn't turn out to be true, would've been cool to see what a "next-gen" game can do in that regard.

We still haven't seen much of the soft-body-physics that was talked a lot about back when they revealed the game. All we'eve seen is that melting metal set piece. I hope there is more too it than just that, it would be great if some weapons deformed the environment.

How so? Have they said something about it not really being a big feature?

One would guess we would've seen an example of it by now, just look at the gif with the shotgun blast, nothing happens to the furniture. This isn't a knock against The Order or RAD, it just turned to be confused bullshit spewed by "insiders" when The Order was initially revealed last year.

Sigh... lets keep our fingers crossed.

Oh well, game still looks great.

Sorry, what is soft body physics?
"Soft body dynamics is a field of computer graphics that focuses on visually realistic physical simulations of the motion and properties of deformable objects (or soft bodies)." -Wikipedia

Looks good to me, graphically impressive, stylish TPS with alternate history science and tech, and story featuring
Nikola Tesla.
I care about this game now.

Has the soft-body stuff ever been mentioned outside of shinobi's comments here on GAF?
First link provided in a Google search sent me to a The Sixth Axis article from a year ago that included:
It goes hand in hand with a new physics engine, entitled ABEL, which uses soft body physics as its basis, compared to the current standard of rigid body physics. Materials will have their own specific properties, such as the deformability of metal or the buoyancy of a ball.

Wow, really impressive tech.
Im hype at the inclusion of some gore. Those delicious particle effects might make for further limb destruction.

Yeah I was just going to say that. Pretty disappointing as that was one of the things I was most excited about.

This is the last thing I remember RAD (Pessino in this case) mentioned about soft body physics.

"Everything that moves in the game is simulated using soft bodies and a very accurate material-in-medium model.."

"As for destruction, it is not a "destroy the whole world" game but there's going to be plenty of shit to break or blow up."

Amazing trailer. It's nice to see some bright exteriors for a change. The graphics and effects are still jaw-dropping. Day 1 purchase!

Looks pretty cool. It seems like a lot of people have been turned off the more they see but I'm the opposite. Gone from no interest from the reveal to looking forward to it. I get the complaints but I wasn't really expecting anything revolutionary from the game. An atmospheric tps with a nice style and setting is ok with me.

This game has always been spectacular in my opinion. I'm not talking just graphics. The gameplay, the characters, the atmosphere. I foresee lots of very tense and challenging moments in this game.
