‏@PzFeed DEVELOPING: Protesters now heading to the Ferguson Police station. Police threatening mass arrests, protesters just continue walking.

Good. This is the right way to protest. Make them acknowledge your peaceful presence where everyone can see how the police respond.

"There's a crowd across from the #Ferguson police department. "

Michael Calhoun @michaelcalhoun 5m

Didn't know that many people had showed up.
With how many people have gathered I hope rioting doesn't breakout and it just remains a peaceful protest.

why the fuck am i seeing friends of mine take the police's side in this on facebook????? their actually trying to rationalize the shit that happened tonight

can't deal with this

Oh no! Not during her vacation! Don't you feel sorry for all of the heavily armed police with tanks acting as though they're the military? Isn't it sad when they are "forced" to shoot rubber bullets and tear gas at peaceful protestors, call them animals, and throw flash bangs at them, instead of leaving them alone to protest? Don't you feel bad that they have to overagressively invade this community that is fed up with all the injustice that has been going on for 400+ years and desire the cop who murdered Mike be punished fairly (if at all)?

These people who live in these bubbles and choose not to educste themselves on the issue disgust me.

Well something other than a generic PR statement would be most appreciated.

You should be complaining about the damn Governor of the state. Local police matters are about as far out of the Presidents jurisdiction as something could be. There are literally dozens of people much closer to this that should and can resolve this.

People have somehow gotten this idea that the President needs to be involved in everything like this when that really isn't his job.

What did Obama say?

I agree, the state officials are floundering big time, but floundering or not Obama has managed to offer deep(ish) opinions on other tragedies, such as Sandy Hook, Lanza theater shooting, and even Trayvon Martian to an extent. He isn't the only voice that matters, but if it involves the gov't and a t.v, his word stands to be the most potentially impressionable.

He's good at bringing those things to attention (tho the more potentially divisive, the less he goes in), but not being vocal enough to really push public perception over the edge, and behind-the-scenes well....those gun reform talks in the wake of Sandy Hook turned out to be a big joke didn't they?

FERGUSON, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Another witness to the shooting of Michael Brown, Jr. spoke to News 4 Wednesday.
Tiffany Mitchell, 27, said she did not see what led up to the shooting, but said she arrived right before the fatal shots were fired.
“As I was coming around, I heard the tires squeaking on the truck, and as I get closer, I see them tussling through the window. The kid was pulling off and the cop was pulling in,” Mitchell said.
Mitchell told News 4 she saw a door close on a police car. An officer was inside and Brown, Jr. was on the outside. She said the two were arm wrestling through the car window. Mitchell said she then tried to pull out her phone to record. Shots then rang out.
“It just didn’t look right for them to be arm wrestling,” Mitchell said. “The first gun shot came from the window, so I just started getting out of the way.”
According to Mitchell, Brown, Jr, began to run away after the first shot was fired.
“After the shot, the kid just breaks away. The cop follows him, kept shooting, the kid’s body jerked as if he was hit. After his body jerked he turns around, puts his hands up, and the cop continues to walk up on him and continues to shoot until he goes all the way down,” Mitchell said.

".@BarackObama issued a poignant statement on Robin Williams' death within two hours. This is NIGHT FIVE of riots in #Ferguson."

1. He did make a response already.
2. He can't do much more as he'd be in between a rock and a hard place the very moment he does. Again, there are people on the side of the police, regardless of going way too fucking far. And I mean, there are a scarily large amount of people. He has to wait until and opportune time to speak more on the issue. Until, it's best he stays out.
3. Pretty much powerless to call off the police. Federal State relations and all that bull. It would take days for him to be able to give that order, if allowed at all.

If they're not racists, and haven't been following this from the beginning, they likely don't understand that this got instigated/escalated by the police department there.

Wish I had some of the equipment the fucking cops have now while I was deployed...

Also, they can afford MRAPS but not dash cams for cruisers? Calling bullshit on that one.

The first black president defending the rights of black people, advocating social and economic justice for blacks, and refusing to tolerate their continued profiling and murder is not really his job.

ok. Even if it's not, that doesn't mean he shouldn't do that if he had passion and principles.

In Wst and Sth Chicago after a gang shootout you get:
Helicopter
Police (Some numbers are fully decked)
ATF
SWAT

All on one crime scene, every-time. So that's an extreme contingency for an extreme place. I wonder what's the contingency (now and future) for every police force militarizing?

This is the second time you've posted this in separate threads and it's not true. When there's a shooting in Chicago you get cops, they don't send out the chopper, swat team and call in federal agencies. Please stop with this nonsense. The CPD has a history of brutality and bureaucratic duplicity, but they are very measured when it comes to these sorts of displays of force and at keep at least the appearance of being public servants in their uniform, equipment and vehicles far better than the majority of US municipalities. They do not bring down the weight of the entire CPD and US armed forces to bear every time there is a shooting here. In fact, they are currently getting a lot of heat because their response and follow up on many of these shootings, particularly in violent areas of the city is near non-existent.

The DoJ is investigating. Please. Tell me what you would like Obama to do to fix this. I would love to hear it. I really hope it isn't anything that requires Congress because you can nix that.

Regardless of what Republicans say he really doesn't have the power to change anything he wants.

He could probably phone the chief of police and force the cops to stand down and withdraw.
