Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

think of how many more characters there would be if they didn't waste time developing custom moves that 5% of the audience will use...

Seriously, someone tell me what's up with that duck, it's SO COOL

The duck should be playable, not Mega Man

The robot bird is Beat, a robot built by Dr. Cossack to assist Mega Man. He made his first appearance in Mega Man 5, where he is basically the game's hidden super-weapon. However, his appearance here looks more like how he is used in the later games, where he rescues Mega Man from bottomless pits if you have a Beat Whistle in your inventory.

I like the idea of custom moves. Though other than Mii's I'll probably stick with the standard ones on my main characters. If I'm playing on another machine I'm be kind of lost.

I am so into custom moves. I'm gonna use them with my friends all the time. Seriously, it's tripling each characters potential special moveset, it's easily the most exciting thing about these new games. So many characters will feel totally new to use. And if they're making new moves for everyone anyway, it makes me feel good about the odds of Ganondorf getting a fresh moveset, whether it's default or custom.

Playing online with randomms is gonna be such a comparably miniscule amount of the time I play this game anyway.

Who is seriously going to use custom moves? I mean it is an interesting idea... but we cannot use them online with anyone. Also if you use them with friends they will just say "dude just use the regular Mega Man, this isn't fair." Some of these moves have to be completely broken considering the amount of effort it would take to balance all of these wouldn't be worth it.

Whatever makes Ganondorf not suck octoroks is what I'll be using at home....
As long as they're allowed in tourney play.

I'll probably be using them. A lot of depends on what the competitive ruleset shakes out to, and how good the game turns out. If the game is fun enough to keep entering tournaments for, I'll be way more interesting in learning whatever is used there.

I'm not worried about balance. Most likely several custom moves will be pretty broken, hopefully some in combination for silly results. If several characters are 'broken' then none of them are. If one or only a couple of moves are especially overwhelmingly powerful, just ban it/them (either for competition ruleset, or as an agreement with friends).

I thought pretty much the same thing before, but the more custom moves I see the more I want to explore all the different options and see what works best.

I love how custom moves allow for extra representation for the characters. It was clear that Sakurai had no feasible way to add more moves to the fighters, so custom moves are a great.

inb4 people complain about how they won't be used in competitions.

I was thinking the same thing. This really does increase variety tenfold. Keeps things interesting and I'm honestly surprised it's not talked about or shown off a lot more from Nintendo.

Forkball has no friends am confirmed

Whoa, I thought Custom moves for MM would be other weapons. Never expected Beat though! Awesome!

And here I thought we'd get another Meta Knight picture per the norm after a newcomer reveal.

Besides Palutena and Mega Man's, most of the custom moves don't seem that time consuming...

I mean the ones we've seen usually just change the basic attack a bit. Now if we were getting radically different custom moves for everyone, I'd agree.

Perhaps 25% of a character? I can't imagine modifying existing animation data, even on a large scale, would be anywhere near the amount of work required to model, texture, animate, code and balance a full, unique character.

The actual animations for Mega Man's customizations are the same as his regular specials. He's still doing the Leaf Shield and Rush Coil motions.

Watch his custom moves be identical to Falcon's.

They won't be identical. They will be significantly more purple.

Off the top of my head they could have these custom movesets for Mega Man.

Shadow Blade replaces Metal Blade
Magnet Missile, Hard Knuckle replaces Crash Bomber
Rush Jet, Super Adapter replaces Rush Coil
Water Shield, Skull Barrier replaces Leaf Shield

Ah, very informative -- thanks!

I think the combination of designing the system, balancing it and testing moves, and coming up with close to 150 new attacks (even when 120 are variations of existing ones) is a fairly time consuming venture.

We might have 1 extra character (maybe). I doubt it though.

Awesome!! I fully expected the shields to change, but a complete new model for his Up B is a welcome surprise! It'd be a dream come true if we get Rush Jet, too.

...and fingers crossed for Skull Barrier as his remaining Down B.

Zero, these custom moves aren't as time-consuming as you make them out to be. Besides, they could still be used in competitive play as long as they aren't broken & don't take too much time to set up.

It's really cool that Mega Man will have some of his other Robot Master weapons as customizable alternates, though I'm still unsure if I will ever play with custom moves.

...is it just me, or do the petals on the Plant Barrier look really odd? They almost look like they were photoshopped onto the picture in post, even if that's rather unlikely...

Beat looks awesome and I really don't mind the custom system, unless we get a lot of characters like Mii/Palutena who have totally different specials for their custom and there would be more of an argument as to them sapping resources away from proper newcomers. Has anybody worked out what was up with the E3 Smash Run demo having some unlockable customs with 'Melee' in brackets?

I found the list of all the characters cut as a result of the customizeable moveset being implemented

is that mr. game & watch standing sideways

Fuck, now I wish we got another Mega Man Fighting game like the Power Battle Series...

Or, fuck, a Mega Man game period. Maybe Capcom will atleast give us a Mega Man 11 as a cheap cash in.

Ah, in Mega Man 6, Mega Man can't throw the Plant Barrier...

I'm guessing it might be weaker than the Wood Shield, but be a lot quicker to deploy.

I really hope they pick up custom movesets in the tourney scene. That'd lead to possibly one of the most complicated metagames ever since pokemon.

How can someone hate such a poor troubled soul like Mega Man?

Kidding
Congrats Ash!

Haha, well played. ;) Thanks!

FINALLY

ANOTHER CUSTOM MOVE UPDATE

I knew it would happen again eventually if I just believed!!

....uhh, what is the red swirly stuff? Ash?

Edit: Ahh, leaves huh? Hmmm....the look weird.

It's the leaves of Plant Man's Plant Barrier from Mega Man 6.

Wonder if the other Up Special'll involve Tango, Auto, or Eddie? My bet's on the Rush Jet, though.

So... other Custom Specials for Mega Man? I'd say Skull Barrier as the other Down Special, Shadow Man's Shuriken or the Rush Adaptor Fist for neutral, Bubble Lead & Splash Woman's Trident for the sides?

Got you covered.

Possible custom neutral specials: Almost too many possibilities to list. Rolling Cutter (1), Shadow Blade (3), Ring Boomerang (4), Gyro Attack (5), Knight Crusher (6), Silver Tomahawk (6), Yamato Spear (6), Laser Trident (9), Wheel Cutter (10), Triple Blade (10), Rebound Striker (10), Screw Crusher (III and 10)

Possible custom side specials: Hyper Bomb (1), Drill Bomb (4), Napalm Bomb (5), Danger Wrap (7), Flash Bomb (8), Black Hole Bomb (9), Commando Bomb (10), Bubble Bomb (V), Ballade Cracker (IV and 10)

Possible custom down specials: Fire Storm (1), Skull Barrier (4), Star Crash (5), Plant Barrier (6, obviously), Junk Shield (7), Jewel Satellite (9), Water Shield (10)

Possible custom up specials: Rush Jet (3, etc.), jumping Rush Coil (5), Beat (5 etc., obviously), Carry (Dr. Wily's Revenge), Item-1/2/3 (2)

Ahhhh I'm going crazy here SmashGAF, I'm so hyped
