Ferguson: Police Kill 18yo Black Male; Fire Gas/Rubber Bullets Into Protesting Crowds

I'm all for states taking initiative I however hold very little hope that any real change can be made across the country at the federal level in the foreseeable future given the political climate.

You're right about that aspect for sure. We have grown adultchildren running our country into the ground. I mean with that in mind.. yeah. Its all a shit show.

These have to be the stupidest motherfuckers to ever wear a badge. What are you going to do, break their camera? Steal the tapes? You think you can get away with that?

This force is staffed by idiots. They operate like it's September 10th. Did not a single one of them say "hey chief, there's this thing called YouTube on this series of tubes called the internet. If we gas an international news team people are going to see it and probably be kind of upset. Just FYI..."

This mindset doesn't seem isolated to just the Ferguson police...

WHAT THE FUCK

WHAT THE FUCK

WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

This has to lead to a nation wide conversation or something, christ. What the fuck?

They either don't understand how the internet works, or they just don't fucking care. And with all of this shit going on, I think they really just don't care at this point. Its out of control.

Maybe they thought they were Al Qaeda? Fuckers act like 911 happened yesterday so it would explain this dumbass move.

If this is the kind of fire-power and equipment being used in a small hick-town, the argument of 2nd amendment advocates about protecting themselves from a tyrannical government holds even less water than I thought. If there was a widespread police crackdown, you'd lose. And that's without the military getting involved.

Should be a national story now that they have been fucking with journalists. Most media attention is focusing on that aspect of what's going down, but it's something. Black journo that got arrested sounded bitter as fuck. That wake up call is real.

My heart goes out to everyone in the US. This just isn't fair :(

We appreciate your concern, but don't get mislead by this thread. Yes, this happens often (not at this scale but these sorts of protests and reasoning poor police work), but not everywhere all the time. Overall this is an isolated event, even if it is evidence of an actual national issue with police and all that. Be more concerned with our terrible government systems than the struggles of all people in the country. A lot of us are lucky enough to live with higher standards. Feel worse for these specific people, and probably more those struggling with the even worse issues in the middle east.

For some reason people keep trying to push the police brutality stuff into saying it's a war on poor people, or a danger to 'everyone', which it partly is, but for liberals to ignore the blatant, calculated, organized racism involved is bizarre. The degrees of violence are way different.

The institutional bona fides of America's liberal establishment rely on a false triumph it calls "the civil rights era".

The stats on stop and frisk/prison inmates don't lie.

They do lie if we don't acknowledge that these stats reflect a particularly blue state character. Yankee racism vs. Southern racism

This is so fucked up, im glad I live in Canada and none of my family has to go through this shit
to this brutal extent
here. My heart goes out to all the protesters and to Mike Brown

How is this not trending?

It seems to be under #mediablackout now in both US and worldwide. I don't know why #ferguson isn't trending at all despite being accompanied by #mediablackout.

Other that that it's all Disney shows and #disneythrowback hashtags and stuff.

The saddest thing about this whole story is that if you made some of this up in a book, it wouldn't sound all that believable overall unless the government in question for the story was tyrannical and awful and this sort of thing was normal.

What a mess.

Just as a note, when I say liberal I do mean people who are further right wing than me, as in the center/center-left who ignore institutional problems. Not talking to you in particular btw just want to stress that because it's easy for some people to think I'm a conservative if I say something bad about liberals (or what I mean by the word liberal).

Yeah I feel a bit down that it's not something that can be easily fixed by the people. I just hope this is resolved sooner rather than later. Lots of suffering all over the world :(

Wouldn't surprise me at all if it was an agent provocateur, like the top comment says. But I wouldn't look down on someone who was a genuine protester who did that.

I love how calm they look while doing this, as if it's a thing they've done many times before. But then again it is a still photo, maybe they ran with everything, dropping parts in real life like awkward bandits.

I would say it does the exact opposite.

If the people were fighting back the police would be hunkered down in their homes like last year in LA when they shot any car that approached their homes, like the cowards they are. Police are only bullies when they know they can be.

Yeah it's really really weird. I have yet to see #ferguson and only seen Disney stuff. Then all of a sudden #MediaBlackout starts.

Hashtag conspiracy

I am the last person to look to for optimism regarding world events at most times, but I occasionally have something to say to help. Take heart that this next generation of adults coming in from high school (my group of teens, I am still in high school) is far more understanding of equality at the very least. We are also all universally negative regarding how the government is run, and how our education is managed, as well as the poor actions of police. We will have our own issues, but there will be progress if things work out, and that is something to smile about always.

Ugh. Why social media? Why must you fail me and prove my points wrong? How can I trust my fellow humans to back me up?

Unlawful assembly. That's why the police disassembled them.

Doesn't really apply to media in the way you have it said. Like, journalists doing their job isn't unlawful assembly. Neither is peaceful protesting by the crowd to start with, but I can see that case. Not the media though.

Edit: Not sure why those links don't open up in a new tab, sorry...

When they said military grade they're talking about the equipment the police have that is of the same type the military uses. They weren't actually talking about the military's equipment.

These guys are the police:

Fuck, I thought the top photo was a picture of the Army and the bottom was the Ferguson police as a comparison. ;_;

Isn't that what a liberal is? Believing that the "individual" has "choices" and any one can make it if they work hard enough (meritocracy). Acknowledging institutional problems conflicts with that world view.
