Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

The more I think about it, the more I think custom moves have the potential the be the next big divisive thing. Like people who play items vs people who play no items. It'll be the purists vs the customs.

That is, unless, it is a huge pain in the butt to swap custom moves between fights.

If competitive community loved the heck out of the changed movesets from Project M, I'm sure the community can find a way to make an acceptable decision regarding the use of custom movesets. It will just help the game get a more balanced approach IMO.

From the Gamestm interview.

“To maintain the game balance, customised fighters will not be available in With Anyone mode,” confirms Sakurai. However, two other new additions to the character roster, Palutena and Mii Fighters, won’t be limited to variations of standard attacks; instead they will feature unique special attacks.

Does that mean you can take customized moves onto For Glory?

Yeah, I've felt that custom moves are a great way to nerf/buff fighters as needed once the metagame develops. It seems like a great tool for the competitive scene so I don't understand the lukewarm reaction thus far amongst much of that crowd.

It's a separate menu on Smash 3DS, so it's likely that it might be as well on Smash U

It's a separate menu, but no reason it can't also be easily accessible on CSS ALSO. Who knows.

Not even talking about competitive. Even casual players have their item/no item preference. The same will be true for custom/no custom. Considering how cool megaman's are, I'm leaning more toward custom moves than I was before.

If there's going to be any divide between customisation and no customisation, it's going to be due to set up times, custom moves should be allowed as a concept whether certain people like it or not.

I don't care if we have to go to 2 stock matches instead of 3 to make up lost time, they're going in. They're the one thing that makes me hopeful the new smash could be as interesting as melee for as long as melee, if they don't become a part of competitive standard, I'm just going back to PM.

That Gamestm article isn't an interview, it's just a synopsis of Sakurai's E3 roundtable.

I hadn't seen the "#1 character game in the world" comment though. That seems a bit mysterious, no? I suppose in some ways it already is...but is he hinting at something?

He said it at the roundtable. He was just referring to the fact that he now has a ton of gaming's most iconic mascots in one game, particularly Mario, Pac-Man, and Megaman.

I think all he needs left are halo, minecraft, goku, and naruto, and he's set.

I thought we can't use Miis in With Anyone? I was a bit curious to see how Palutena works, I know people are not happy with her default moveset.

I also had this conversation today with my gal pal:

Her: Is Rockman's brother in this game?
Me: You mean Proto Man?
Her: No, Red Rockman.

Well it's an option that is not imposed forcefully to anyone, so I don't think it will be a problem, especially for guys that play Smash just because they like to play Smash.

What, you don't ride the people around you like horseys?

So realistically, what do you think Mewtwo's chances are for returning?

I'm kind of torn on it. I think he's an awesome character and deserves to be in Smash. He's still relevant in Pokemon, he has a unique move set and he was cheated out of a spot in Brawl. He's the closest thing the Pokemon series will have to a playable villain, and he's consistently been one of the most powerful legendaries in the game, every generation. He's also the only legendary Pokemon with a mega evolution (at least in x and y).

On the other hand, Pokemon has a lot of characters in smash bros already. Mewtwo wasn't that strong of a character in Melee and was generally not popular in that game. He's also a first generation Pokemon, and adding him makes the game very first generation heavy.

Is he still wanted enough to be brought back? Was he even on the table for consideration for the new smash? Would the Pokemon Company request or allow his appearance? Would he get a new comer trailer, or just be treated like any other veteran, despite his one game absence?

Creepy gaf back before the weekend lol

Creepygaf is always here. Everyone else just leaves during the weekend.

Is anyone else getting nervous that the 3DSXL is Europe exclusive?

For something as high profile as smash I'm doubting it would be exclusive. At most the NA or Japan special editions would have a different design.

I'm just glad I don't care for the Smash 3DS, no temptation to buy it.

So instead I can spend too much money on amiibos instead.

Yup, not gonna buy a new 3ds when I still need a Wii U, but will be picking up the Lucina, Rosalina, Pikachu, and Samus amiibos for sure.

I think she'll get in this time, especially as she had a movie recently.

There's no confirmation, but it's way too similar to just be coincidence especially given everything else about the character.

It looks exactly like it.

That would be really cool if so. It shouldn't surprise me given that it's Sakurai, but I figured after Mega Man's initial reveal trailer that they were only pulling moves from the first eight main games. I hope his custom specials include at least one (more) weapon from 9 or 10!

Huh. Didn't realise the UK Nintendo store was doing a tshirt+ sweatband with the game for £40. Might be worth it.
I think that's new. It was there when I checked the site only a few days ago.

Funny they have a standalone listing for the same price. Why would you choose that?

Honestly, Jigglypuff may be one of the first 12, but as a Pokémon her popularity died as soon the anime stopped covering the first gen, while Charizard and Mewtwo had a special place in the hearts of all veteran players, even more now thanks to feature films and the Mega Evolutions. Jigglypuff feels like a joke long overdue that stopped being funny in Brawl, while Mewtwo still feels fresh and revelevant in the series.

As always, after playing devil's advocate I'll feel bad when all characters are revealed and all of them are back safely.

Jigglypuff's inclusion is worth it for Rest alone. Mewtwo's moveset is much less interesting.

Although I'd rather not see Jiggs go, she'd be a noble sacrifice for Mewtwo.

But that'd probably be the only acceptable scenario.
