He squarely blames "big government" for the militarization of the police force in America and vaguely mentions racial biases present that make the issue disproportionately affect blacks.

To make any of his words meaningful, these things need to change. And big government, not simply disarming police forces, is the only current tool for that job.

Well he did provide two paragraphs of context as to what he meant about "big government", he is blaming specifically the war on drugs and the war on terror as to why the police force is militarized, which is 100% correct. I agree that the words "big government" have become a meme, but in this specific case the appropriate amount of context was provided.

I'd like to hope so but it fits perfectly with what I heard from Fox when I passed by one of my co-workers offices yesterday. It was something along the lines of "How will black people respond to the looting in Ferguson?"

No mention of the shooting or of the police's role in escalating the situation... not that I was the least bit surprised.
