Distinct lack of riot gear.

deem caps... Im sorry but fuck them they dont get to act like they did last night and start dressing like Barney Fife and think people are going to forget... smh
Just to be clear, this is the St. Louis city police getting ready for a planned march and vigil in downtown St. Louis. NOT ferguson or county cops. We will see how that goes tonight.

THIS is the scene in ferguson right now at "ground zero"

oh nm ..then.. still hope civilians stay safe tonight

Sigh, sent my dad the Vox article earlier today. When he comes home, we're talking about the situation. His take on things?

"Let the cops investigate, no one knows what happened, but of course the people decide to start rioting first. Oh, yeah, there were "eyewitnesses" but how do you know they saw the whole thing? No one knows what happened"

"Look at the pictures, it's all young people, the instigators who want to use the opportunity to cause trouble. Oh, some reporters get roughed and start complaining. Well, they shouldn't be trying to put camera in the cops' faces and they were probably in the way while the cops were trying to clear the area. Etc, etc."

Paraphrasing somewhat, but yeah, at that point, I just nodded along, thinking, "Really? Really? This is your opinion on the matter?"

Sigh. It should be noted that my dad predominately watches Fox News...

Solution: Fire and arrest all of them, including the police chief.

Every single officer that has been involved with this shit since the shooting needs to be unemployed with this is all over.

This includes the St Louis County scum that came in to "help". Since we don't know who's responsible for the most vile of the incidents, then we need to start from scratch.

Nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

The problem is a lit of people have the mentality that the cops are the unccorruptable law. Any sign of aggression or hate against them is blamed on the accuser.
That, or they're racist and are just showing their true colors.

Remember when people commented that the acquaintance of Mike Brown had an account of the event leading to Brown's death that portrayed the officer as "cartoonishly evil"?

Black in America. Marcus Jeter - assaulting an officer, resisting arrest and evading arrest.

this is real.

I just don't understand this at all. Just what the fuck.

Cpt. Johnson WALKED in the march. "We're all in this together...we're not in this for fear, to intimidate."

EDIT: more quotes from @WesleyLowery

""I've assigned all police assigned to this detail to take their gas masks off," - Cpt. Johnson #ferguson"

""I'm not afraid to be in this crowd today, that's why I walk up front (in the march)" - Cpt. Johnson "hopefully they'll be some healing""

My dad does too. That and he listens to Rush Limbaugh in his car wherever he goes. So yeah, I know those feels, man. In fact, my whole immediate family is brainwashed. Bums me out.

For your sanity, avoid political talk with them.

...this is the smartest thing to happen yet. Seriously, reading this is like fresh air.

Night and day. That is how you police. You are a part of the community you protect. You are not against these people.

Cant see either cause I'm at work. Summary of the articles and why they're so bad?

The Polygon article pretty much says the solution to this issue in post racial america is portable cameras on the police, to be more specific a brand of cameras that is mentioned six times on the article and whose CEO they interview so he can pitch it. No mention of second witness, usual "we will never know what happened" absolutist shit.

Ha, my Dad listens to Mark Levin religiously every day, reads the books too. Now I do have some conservative beliefs myself, but damn, I don't know how my dad could have read that article and not think the cops did anything wrong.

While this is great that the police in charge have figured out how to handle things, I wonder if we're getting any closer to naming and charging the man who killed Mike Brown.

Head of highway patrol marching WITH protestors...

Shocking difference - only took the governor and president.

1000's in ferguson tonight, largest crowds yet

https://twitter.com/wesleylowery/status/500049126432579584

Governor, not President. Governor called in the Troopers made his statement before Obama even made a statement. All the president did was call for calm for both sides. Governor on the other hand ordered the recall of St Louis police and replaced them with his Troopers. He also took over and placed this guy to lead now.

Hopefully this means that there will be some leadership on how this is handled. The new Highway Patrol head said that SWAT and all their gear is still at hand, which should be. However, they won't be used unless needed, which it's how it should be.

Either way, if he isn't careful he can get in a bunch of trouble. Not supposed to wear uniform outside of work, and definitely not out at protests in any way. Doesn't matter if it is his 'blue dress' or his actual uniform, it is not allowed.

What the...? He's a sitting duck right there! No tactical armor or anything to protect him from the inevitable barrage of Molotov cocktails.

Glad to hear about this.

An army of Police officers heavily equipped needed 25 feet distance from the protesters "to keep safe". This dude out there with nothing and is right in the middle of them.
