Music That Is Incomprehensibly Bad To You

The thing that really bugs me is the endless sub-genres made by people desperate to stand out or seem different then the other 300 bands doing the same thing as them.

Categorising yourself shouldn't matter.

[Modern] Country music (as noted multiple times in this thread) is complete shit. I also hate most of the mainstream pop music; Pitbull is a disease to music, he throws some of his shitty words in every song along with rehashed stolen beats to make it look like he produced an actual "song". How people like to listen to him is beyond me.
And don't get me started on bieber, Demi, Selena, etc...repetitive (stupid) lyrics and all that glorious auto-tune to give you the most annoying songs imaginable.

Speaking of shitty auto-tune, how the hell does Britney still have fans? This is a leaked recording of one of her recent songs without auto-tune: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUdKrtsrCBI

Oh, and of course, cRap "music". It seemed like every once and a while someone out there will put a good rap/hip-hop song (I loved Kanye's 808's). However, I haven't heard something that's not cringe-worthy in quite some time, even Eminem is mediocre these days.

As for metal music, I tried to get into it in my teenage years (thinking it's this cool shit that only cool people listen to). I hated it. I actually thought I'd grow up to appreciate it, but no. It's awful and noisy.

lol. good ol eminem, beacon of artistic integrity for rap music.

I'd go so far as to say that categorization is actively stifling creativity and progression.

For example punk rock bands ironically will be dismissed by many fans if they don't fit properly into the category that fans think is kosher.

Kelis.....I don't think she makes music with a plan. Writes lyrics...gets a beat and then sings the lyrics as contrary to the music as she possibly can. I think she has talent though...which makes it worse when I hear it. CAN NOT STAND MILKSHAKE.

Listen to her first two Neptunes-produced (Pharrell Williams & Chad Hugo) albums!
Kaleidoscope
Wanderland

I don't think Daft Punk is exceptionally consistent with their quality, but they have a lot of songs that sound like songs and are fun to listen to.

Rollin' and Scratchin' though

Admittedly, I've never listened to the whole track that I can recall. Maybe it gets better. idk. There was another track just like it from the same album. Can't remember which was worse.
I love Homework but this track is hot garbage.

I love OK computer but Fitter Happier is also hot garbage.

All the colours in the rainbow in metal, of course. It's SO DIVERSE.

That's not what I'm saying, and most genres have an emotional centerpoint somewhere. I just object to the assertion that metal always angry. I listen to a good bit of metal and I'm not angry very often, and when I am I actually don't listen to metal. First artist that came to my mind right now is Yngwie Malmsteen, say whatever you will about him but I can't think of any angry songs he's written. Ok, that's still heavy metal I suppose, but even the more extreme stuff isn't necessarily angry. There's a lot of black metal that tries to evoke a sense of nature, there's nothing angry about it and personally I find it relaxing (they tend to be less about melody and more about creating a mood, it's probably too repetitive for a lot of people). Example and example (this song is quite melancholic to my ears.)

This thread is more for venting than defending, but just know that I'm giving you a nasty glare right now.

Daft Punk is kind of weird. The large majority of their material is pretty clearly mediocre, but they've got just enough good songs that I can't outright dismiss them (their best work is Discovery, which has 4 good songs). They're expert marketers though, I'll give them that.

I didn't say that though man. I wouldn't say it's always angry but I would say the emotional spectrum is a bit limited since the surface level of metal is mostly bluster. I don't think it's particularly subtle. Anyway, I'm nearly home so I'll be sticking this all on the stereo and trying to expand my horizons.

If it's shit, retribution shall be swift and brutal.

Meat, what genre is Punching Swans? Still LOVE that shit.

Haha! Awesome, I'll let them know. I dunno, I think they call themselves "Disco-Punk" or summink. The tags they use on bandcamp are as follows:

alternative blood eagle body salad fish garage rock loose meat math rock noise rock now i'm hungry and nauseous post-punk punk tagging is for lief whatever United Kingdom

Man, we need to arrange a gig and get them on the bill too.

I'm sorry, but I cannot stand death metal. I understand those who listen to it may find more but all I hear is screaming and yelling.

Also, some strains of jazz. It's just boring, though I do admire and hope to acquire the technical skill needed to play it one day.

Urban Dictionary
It's like gangsta rap, except over minimalist, drum & bass / dub / dancehall music.

Fucking. Horrible. The worst music out there at the moment, in my opinion.

whoa whoa don't mug yourself m8

yeah grime can be pretty bad. but I like how they kind of took rap and ran off in some random direction back in the day.

I abhor jazz and blues. They work well as influences to other styles, but as standalones sound terrible to. Jazz for being too show-offy and blues for being boring as fuck.

Probably one of the most influential acts of popular electronic music since Kraftwerk. They were the ones to introduce sampling in house music (the whole filter house movement in the early 00s stemmed from them), among other things.

Furthermore, they change their sound from album to album in an effort not to "repeat " themselves (as they often said in interviews), so it's not really hard to see the appeal.

What? Sampling in house music was around way before Daft Punk

Alive 2007 justifies Daft Punk

edit: and fitter happier is totally necessary

I don't follow pop music much at all, but I remember hearing a Rihanna(sp?) song during a football game. Something about "run this town tonight." Sounds like she was pinching her nose while singing.

Modern pop. I dont hate it or anything. That would require effort. If Im in the car and the latest radio hit comes on i usually just cringe and shut the radio off.

-My Chemical Romance

-Who/whatever sang that "I'm so fancy" crap I keep hearing during that phone commercial.

-Most of the new bands I hear these days on Octane.

LOL

C'mon son!

I'm of the belief that I can find something good in most genres of music, but I cannot stand death metal. I'm even a fan of post-hardcore, but death metal is just too much screaming and pointless noise for me.

Which jazz do you like and not like?

I like all genres of music, but some things that make a bad song are universal and carry through all music:

Uninspired, regurgitated lyrics with no thought behind them.
Sterile mixing and producing.
Unoriginality.
Lack of passion, in other words the song is just built from blocks that are expected to work without any real vision or purpose other than profit.

Metal is the genre I once listened to almost exclusively and now I've realised I cannot tolerate it at all. Most of it is just empty, technical noise.

Just like Bach!

A common theme I'm picking up on in this thread is that people who have decided they don't like a given genre have only been listening to the worst of the genre.

For example have people who don't like metal been listening to Ulver, Alcest, Negură Bunget, Mitochondrian, etc?
