Don't do it. If you have a viewpoint, present it as your own. Don't try to play games by saying, "This isn't what I think; I just wanted to argue the other side." There's more than enough representation of views on all sides without people further muddying the waters by arguing things they don't even believe - or more typically, things they do believe, but want to argue for without other people knowing they believe them.
I remember someone wrote a beautiful takedown of Fox News reporting practio and how they would use weasel words and the like to present their own viewpoint without having to take flack for it. Some of their favorite tactics were "some say" and playing devil's advocate. So congrats! You devils advocates have as much credibility as Faux News.
