Legend of Korra Book 3: Change |OT| SCHEDULEBENDING

He has to be killed offscreen because it's a kid's show and you can't kill someone onscreen. There is no other way to kill someone in a Y7 show.

Tenzin said he will never stop fighting Zaheer as long as he breathes. How is that "nothing to gain" from killing him?

I'm assuming because Zaheer still needs Korra and killing Tenzin wouldn't exactly help him achieve his goal of getting Korra to join him

i need to remind him that its coming but he didnt want to believe me

Nah Mako is going to get back together with Asami
Makorra is dead

Great epsidoe

It'd be crazy if they really did just kill Tenzin but I doubt it. I'm expecting some fakeout like when Kai fell.

But Mike and Bryan said the Makorra relationship is officially over
they wouldn't lie to us would they
would they?

They're going to do it aren't they

ep 11 spoilers:
Wow I hope Tenzin isn't dead, I like him D: also whats up with Kai? he's boring, please stop focusing on him. Lets see why Jinora deserves to get her arrows, I wanna see her fight already.

That ending fight was great. They chose the characters with no Team Avatar death immunity so the stakes were high.

I don't think that they killed Tenzin. I think that they brutally beat the crap out of Tenzin and that they'll use him as leverage since everyone else escaped, and if Korra decides to give herself up then Tenzin will sacrifice himself to stop Zaheer or possibly stop Zaheer's sniper girlfriend.

didnt you see that hug

didnt you see naga jump on mako

grade A shipbait. its happening

I'm trying to believe in a better world. :,(

Killing Tenzin between episodes will have limited dramatic impact for the series. Korra will show up and Tenzin is dead, and she can only react with sadness and anger (away from the action she is being influenced by) and want to confront Zaheer, which she was going to do any way. Killing her mentor would have more impact if Korra were present and the tension surrounding the circumstances were more built up. Which is why I called it an off screen death in comparison to the Earth Queen's death, which was also technically off screen, but far more explicit.

We knew Zaheer's goal was to assassinate the Earth Queen sooner rather than later. We knew that was a constant threat all episode. He monologued before he killed her, explicitly bending away her breathing air, with her reacting with bloodshot eyes and choking. The scene makes sense to Zaheer's character, and is visually supportive of the notion that she's being killed. The action and the dialogue surrounding the scene makes it effective.

Juxtaposed with Tenzin's possible death scene, where he's simply getting beat down off screen. He says his line and no one on Team Entropy responds. Zaheer doesn't say some shit like "as you wish" to really hammer home that he's going to kill Tenzin. For a major character to be killed off with so little feedback from the show leads me to believe that Tenzin was simply knocked out. his dramatic arc isn't completed.

Furthermore, killing Tenzin is a net loss from Zaheer's point of view because by all we know of him he wouldn't want to directly destroy airbending culture, which includes the most learned airbender in existence. And at the point in time where Team Entropy would have killed Tenzin, Zaheer didn't know that the other airbenders were secured, so Tenzin would have been his only sure leverage.

Quick and dirty thoughts, since I don't have time to analyze the episode as a whole as usual.

Korra keeps coming up with the strangest logic. "We saw him go to this one place in the spirit world for his secret meeting, therefore it follows that it's his only spot and he must go there all the time!" Atleast it didn't work. Still, they brought back Iroh for this again? Jeez. 4th season, he's going to be like "What, again? What do you need help with now?" BTW, brilliant advise from Zuko. "Well, Aang would consider the airbenders to be his biggest dream, but as the avatar, the world would need him, so....I don't know" And apparently this helped Korra.

It's vaguely amusing that after basically a life time of failure, Tenzin manages to actually be the better fighter against the most capable villain the show has ever seen (to the point of him being a villain sue). He still fails, of course, but atleast it's not his fault, since it turns into a 4 on 1 fight. Which, of course, runs in the family, as Kya and Bumi get their asses handed to them.

I hate that Kai keeps playing rescuer to the damselled Jinora. That trope got old the first time they did it. Why is he going on this dangerous run when Jinora is the far more experienced bender, to the point where she is atleast close to being a master? Why does she continue to do absolutely nothing?

The fight choreography are again reminiscent of TLA via use of the environment, and that's only a good thing, but with added brutality that made it pretty intense. Loved Kya's "oh, shit" face when Ming Qua did the multiarm thing.

Overall, good episode, it just needs to pick up the pace a little. I don't feel that a lot happened here, but what did, was entertaining.

Just saw it overall

It was pretty great, nice amount of time showing you the little bit of chaos in the upper ring, king of wished for a few more scenes there but it's whatever

Got Damn at how well they have built up and used the Zaheer squad as well as they have. That whole fight and everyone involved in each smaller fight worked flawlessly. Zah and Tenzin was the big one, and it is something how much their fighting styles differ yet they both can still give each other a run for their money, at least that's what Mike and Bryan have made it seem. I would say the ending fights altogether are one of few fights in Korra that would actually be up there with ATLA in fight scenes. Hopefully they stick the landing in regards to the end of this arc. Part of me feels tho that the red lotus will be big in book 4 and will most likely deal with Zuko's daughter, to me it sounds like they are building up to fire nation being shown next season.

Tenzin will die at one point I feel, that wasn't it but probably by the end of the arc. I see zuko dying next season

From everything we know of Book 3 so far. It really seems like its leading up to an ending that will carry over onto Book 4.

Whatever Zaheer has planned for Korra, it's a game changer.

Great episode.

Finally Tenzin got a moment to show what he's made off. He could easily have taken Zaheer on his own and he even held his ground against 3 people for a short time until he got stabbed in the back again. I hope he won't die from his injuries later.

how come suyin
couldnt get a call through to the northern air temple but as soon as the team gets back, they do it in a cinch

This would have been a more impactful and character developing episode if Bumi, Tenzin, Kai and Kya died. With Tenzin and Kai dead they could greatly improve Jinora's character and move her into the spotlight since they already seem to want her to have an important role.

how come suyin

Korra
went to the spirit world, and the entire time Bolin was trying to reach the Air Temple. It seems like it wasn't an immediate connection, so I feel like Suyin's story checks out here.

Honestly, I was very meh on the first 2/3 of the episode. Definitely the low point of the season.
Then badass Tenzin comes in and puts up what just might be the the best fight of the series so far.
So damn good. I don't even care about what else happened.

Kale Hydra.

You're probably right.

Well they
really can't have Korra fighting them anyway since she'd win when goes AS.

Actually no
Korra cant access avatar state to my knowledge and even if she could, she lost her connections with the past avatars so how would she Gain the strength of all the past avatars?

oh i guess this is tea

edit: and yes korra can access the avatar state

she did it in episode one of this season

and bryke confirmed at sdcc that her lack of past lives does not make the avatar state weaker. it doesnt work like that.

Bryan from Comiccon: "Nope, that's not how the avatar state works."

Not that it matters. For whatever reason, Korra's avatar state is pathetically weak compared to the other avatar's.

Why are we still talking with spoiler tags? The episode has aired technically.

Meh, I guess we have to give enough time for people to watch it.

If the problem is they aren't allowed/able to watch a 22 minute show at work or school, then they shouldn't also be on forums or tumblr looking at spoilers.

That's my opinion.

If people watch a leak then shouldn't you watch the leak as well if you can't do that then you shouldn't expect everybody else to accommodate, it's a slippery slope you don't want to go to. It's much easier for me to surf neogaf which has no audio nor social stigma to the naked eye in between work to take a break or when shit is slowly, vs propping my feet up and watching a tv show while I'm supposed to work which requires undivided attention for 22 minutes.

Today is a slow day it doesn't mean I can just search for which video provider isn't blocked at work because some folks don't want to type
real quick. In this case we have a good point to know when people can talk freely and that's on the tv air time.

Thanks. -hopes that the payoff to all the build-up during this season is worthwhile-

Well we have yet to meet Zaheer's brother and there is a lack of dancing wolves so it's already a huge + in my book. Needless to say the title of the finale
Venom of the Red Lotus
is a good indicator on what to expect.

Because Kai is much more headstrong and bold than Jinora

Even though she's the more battle hardened of the two? (Facing amon and Unavatu)

If they want to focus on Kai's abilities and character development, fine, but that shouldn't be at the expense of making Jinora, a far more capable bender, idle and damselled.

That title gives me the feeling that one of the cast is gonna die in the finale. On the other hand, I can expect excellent action choreography which is nice.

Yeah, his boldness had been a big part of his character since he first appeared.

And to be fair, all of the airbenders were damselled, not just Jinora.

Now imdefinitely feeling if zaheer dies or not, that the red lotus plot will still go on in book 4
