I posted about it earlier in the thread, but as it's a poll that's about judging the characters from a mix of gameplay implementation and the actual character's gaming history, I combined characters who are technically the same person. Link kind of breaks the rule, but, at least on a surface level, Link is Link; I didn't want votes to get broken up between them for someone who jumps between them or for someone to choose Mario as their first and Dr. Mario as their second because they just sort of use both.

But there's obviously not 100% correct way to do the poll. Maybe for the Wii U launch I can do one of these with the newcomers and, much like Smash 4 has done, make everyone totally separate.

Nerf'dMarthLucina is probably not going to be one of my top character choices... ZSS would probably be my first choice here, but we'll have to see how much she's changed (looks like it's for the better).

I haven't seen us talk about this yet. Sakurai specifically addressed the core-audience's disappointment with Brawl.

“I think with Brawl, if people hadn’t played the series before and this was their first Smash, there was a lot that appealed to them, but the Smash veterans didn’t see it as their cup of tea,” concludes Sakurai. “One thing as a developer I have to keep in mind is that it’s not enough to make a game that will satisfy our core fanbase.
