Phil Spencer: MS will spend money on marketing and developing Rise of the Tomb Raider

Wouldn't Sony know if the game is being made for their system? Why not ask them?

And I'm beyond tired of the terrible PR speak. The only thing I hear clearly is "Don't buy an Xbox".

Are you serious?
Sony can't confirm the development for a PS4 version of an IP that doesn't belong to them even if they know about it.

Not really. Any given PS4 owner is a potential Xbox One owner. I wouldn't be going out of my way to piss people off personally but I guess that's why I'm just a normal person and not head of Xbox.
The only reason a PS4 owner was gonna get upset over this if he/she wasn't planning to buy an Xbox in the foreseeable future.

As a PS4 owner myself who's GOING to get one, it just makes my purchase that much more attractive.

Ugh. Forget it. I'm not purchasing an X1 and by extension I'm not purchasing Rise of The Tomb Raider.

I'll just look forward to Uncharted 4. I'm sure it'll be another Naughty Dog masterpiece.

So I guess they now purchased full console exclusivity on TR. This means no PS3/PS4 version. PC will definitely come down the line. Sheeeeet! Square done goofed and this deal works out a lot better for MS than the original "timed" exclusivity. Or Spencer could be lying through his teeth again.

That what Phil wants us to think. If can imply there will be a PC version he can say there won't be PS4 version.

*sigh* Can someone just explain this in plain English for fuck's sake? Is that too much to ask?

Is it a timed exclusive, a console exclusive or a full exclusive?
Is MS publishing or is SE?

These are not difficult questions to answer and yet every time you have opened your mouths we end up with more questions instead of less.
As it is now nobody is sure if anything because every word out of your mouths is aimed to obfuscate instead of elucidate. THIS IS DOING YOU NO FAVORS! You are just making yourselves look either sleazy or grossly incompetent. Stop the BS and answer the damn questions! FFS

Quote for new page.

How can people even consider a possibility of FF XV and KH III being timed exclusive to the Xbox One?

Because Microsoft is desperate and Square Enix is stupid and needs money. If FFXV and KH3 were a timed exclusive for XB1 they'd probably actually see an increase in console sales instead of TR2

I could understand this decision is Tomb Raider's sales were abysmal on PS3 and PC but from what I know they were very good. The only problem was SE's overzealous expectations for the game to be the next CoD/Uncharted/GoW/etc.

Who is being mistreated? Seriously? What shitty practice? Funding a game from a third party? Sony is doing it with Bloodborne, Nintendo is doing it with Bayonetta 2. Its entirely possible that square sought a publisher for Tomb Raider as they completely mismanaged the budget of the game last time around. You're completely overreacting.

Yep, people are blowing this way out of proportion.

Dead horse, but still hilarious to see how Microsoft continues to deliver mixed messages and dance around the details.

Won't be buying RotTR, regardless of what console it comes it too.

People don't seem to realize something...

Why would you be laughing at MS? There's zero confusion for Xbox one owners here. We know we will be playing tomb raider holiday 2015. The only people the vague statements could possibly upset would be Ps4 owners, maybe PC owners. Phil Spencer doesn't care if people that don't own xboxes are salty. This isn't a problem for Microsoft to deal with, it's really an issue with CD and SE.

The more Phil Spencer upsets Ps4 owners the better a job he is doing. That's just the nature of the competition unfortunately. If you are completely anti Xbox but get upset when an exclusive game or content isn't available to you, then I think this is going to be a veeery long generation for you indeed.

Oh please, get over yourself.

The whole point is the lack of transparency. They did it last year with DRM and the rest of that hot mess of a console they debuted, and they still have not learned that lesson, obviously. I personally don't give two stones about TR. The last game had good gameplay, but nothing spectacular, and a lousy story with an awful supporting cast, so they can keep the sequel for however long they want it.

Not sure you understand Spencer's position in the company. He's there to sell you an Xbox One. Of course he won't say upright that a PS4 version is coming. Writing in all caps and being angry won't change that. MS probably paid millions for this timed exclusivity so they made sure SE could not talk about the other versions of the game until the exclusivity period is over.

Even if you make 250 threads about it, it will be the same situation.

Why can't they just give us a straight answer....

He doesn't have to say anything about other platforms. All he needs to say is something like "We have partnered with Square/CD to bring Rise of the Tomb Raider exclusively to Xbox One during the Holiday 2015 season. After that time, it's totally up to Square to decide what they want to do with their game".

That's ALL that people are asking for.

I already own both a PS4 and Xbone. Gonna wait for the PS4 version before I even consider buying Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Yes how could he possibly know that SE is planning on putting the game out on other platforms when the period of exclusivity ends? Because that never happens.

To be less sarcastic, it's really SE's responsibility to tell us what the duration is. But the terms of the deal probably muzzle them from being able to do that, which is pretty assy.

I could be wrong, but aren't Activision under a similar deal on the exclusive PS Destiny content, only saying that it's exclusive at least through Fall 2015? They don't specify when another platform will get it.

Seems pretty standard. We know TR2 is exclusive to Xbox consoles for holiday 2015. I don't see how it's offensive or unclear.

That's pretty much a guarantee at this point.

And Square can still make more money off of it, in which the deal will have been a positive one for them.

Without a PS3/PS4 audience? There's no way it will sell more than TR 2013.

If? Why would it have more sales? It's coming out much earlier in the generation and not on all platforms.

I would argue that this is a given right now.
Question will be if SE got enough money to make the sales difference up.

I'm including the sales of a delayed PS4 and... PS3 *vommit* release.

If it's perma console exclusive then words can't describe the level of goof this is.

I don't get why some people are assuming it might be more than just timed exclusive. This statement by Spencer seems pretty straightforward:

So if you ask me, is Tomb Raider going to ship on another platform, I actually can’t give you an answer because I’m not the developer of the game.

I already own both a PS4 and Xbone. Gonna wait for the PS4 version before I even consider buying Rise of the Tomb Raider.

If I was a 2 console guy I'd probably wait too. If there's parity then I could grab the bone version cheap. Winning.

Over 6 million is Uncharted/Gears Of Wars numbers. They were crazy if they expected COD numbers.

It's a pretty stupid thing to ask for. Name one timed exclusive on any platform ever where that happened.

SE is stupid but no where near that stupid. Those franchises will have 80+% of their sales on PS4.

Tell that to Japen. They are still waiting for The Last Remnant on PS3 apparently :S

hahaha yeah, why not. :)

Anyway, what is the sentiments? Is this a DR exclusive meaning it will not come to, even, PC if MS decides to Pony up for the difference? Already assuming it's never coming to PS4 now.

Why is so hard to them to just say "it's not timed exclusive!"

If they will help on the development and then the game come out on PS4,they made a really shit deal!

^^^^ this is a perfectly acceptable answer. It isn't clearly deceptive or confusing and explains the situation without any bullshit. I fail to see how perpetuating the image of sleaziness or incompetence is better for the company at this point.

The situation definitely isn't. I was just speaking about & comparing the statements from MS and nothing more.

I know, but my point is, even if microsoft is trying to get full exclusivity, Square and Crystal dynamics are not in a postion to make that an attractive prospect.

I really do wonder if people think that Microsoft are sending reps to every publisher asking

"Hi Guys, have you got any games that you are thinking about canceling because they aren't working out? Don't do that, we will fund them!"

In this interview he pretty much says it's up to Crystal Dynamics to do what they want with the game once the exclusivity period is over. What else do you want? Once again he's there to sell Xbox Ones and in this case to sell Tomb Raider on Xbox One why would he talk about other platforms. Would be pretty dumb for him to do so.

He said almost exactly what you wrote in the interview
