Legend of Korra Book 3: Change |OT| SCHEDULEBENDING

Why are you people insisting they'll kill Tenzin off? I mean I'm not saying it won't happen but this is a series that outside of the queen doesn't kill people willy nilly. They just had their shock death scene not too long ago, they won't be killing everybody for the sake of showing us how edgy these guys are when the whole season they haven't killed.

They killed the eath queen because it's part of their code and mission, with entropy/anarchy or w/e. Zaheer was taunting Korra into coming, he even told the air benders that none of them would be harmed as long as they played ball. He's big on air culture, he isn't about to kill the world's master airbender because he says he won't stop fighting him. All you have to do is beat him senseless.

This is still Nickelodeon and the show wasn't always planned to be taken off the air. Tenzin is too important to the show as the leader of a rebuilding air nation to be killed off, again for little reason besides "they killed the earth queen, everybody is fair game now". They're not maniacs.

I don't think they will kill him... I was just saying they could if they wanted to lol.

eitehr way I am excited for next week... hopefully it finishes strong.-

Not will kill Tenzin off, did kill Tenzin off. He dies at the end of the episode that aired today.

Again, everything about the way that scene was presented was a buildup to Tenzin's death.

If they wanted to show that he got knocked out, they just would have knocked him out and showed him on the ground, like they do with everyone else who gets knocked out in this show.

They explicitly had him tell Zaheer that he'd never stop fighting as long as he was breathing.

He's dead, Jim.

So far season 3 has exceeded my expectations. Hopefully they don't rely too much on deus ex jinora or anything like that as they have so often in the past. (Deus ex water spirit, deus ex chiropractor rock, aang giving Korra bending back, jinora, etc).

He's dead, Jim.

That scene had not enough tension for death. It just ended with them beating up on him with bending. If they wanted to kill somebody they'd make it obvious. Like showing you their gasping breaths of air. They're not going to kill a major character off screen before the next episode airs. In fact the episode ended with pretty boy going flying to get help, probably finding Korra. This was meant to show us how badly the airbenders got beaten, with their leader being completely beaten so he doesn't cause any problems. They'll probably put him in a jail cell or some form of earth/water shackles.

This is basic writing 101. If you're going to kill a major character in a battle, you make them have this really sad death on screen where somebody else screams their name or sees it happen. Why are you so confident on a kid's show? One death of a bad character =/= game of thrones. That's not how it works for 99% of shows.

This is like the 'Zelda is a girl in the Wii U teaser, let's focus on this one gif where it kinda looks like he has boobs'. Some were insisting he was a girl with overanalyzation that disregarded the obvious/

Sounds like avatar bet time.

There's no way he dies by the end of this episode. At best he gets beaten down into unconciousness and is taken as the main hostage, leaving Korra furious.

The cold open for the next episode will be Zaheer contacting Korra through radio and letting her listen to Tenzin getting his head blown off.

R.I.P. in peace Tenzin

lol.

I swear you're giving the writers too much credit if you're expecting such a bomb.

You can quote me for sure, Tenzin isn't dead and won't die. One shock death scene was already done and there's not many episodes left.

okay. i take back most of what i said about the airbenders episode earlier in the season. i'm glad they gave those guys some time in the sun so that we should care about them when shit like this happened. it was also nice that tenzin didn't just roll over, and actually held his own against zaheer pretty damn spectacularly.

i also loved the difference in airbending techniques. zaheer was obviously an acrobat of sorts, or some sort of parkour master, kind of like how bumi is a pretty dirty fighter and how he manages to work it into his airbending, while tenzin is classically trained and fights with more discipline.

i'm intrigued to see where this goes. actually, it doesn't feel like there's enough to call it a wrap in two more episodes. it really feels like we're only getting started with regards to these people.

It's not bloodlust, it's looking at the way the scene was presented.

Again, there is literally no reason for Zaheer and friends to leave Tenzin alive. They already have the rest of the airbenders, so they still have leverage against Korra. They already think they killed Bumi and Kya, and ol' Water Arms was forming giant ice swords to try to cut Kya in half. They don't care about killing people. And Tenzin, who can handle a one-on-one with Zaheer with ease, has just said he'll never stop as long as he's breathing. Literally the next thing that happens is Zaheer frowns, then they start attacking him again, the "camera" hides behind a wall and we hear Tenzin cry out.

This is Zaheer, who literally murdered the Earth Queen, and tossed a man's soul into the Fog of Lost Souls for eternity just for failing him.

I just don't get why you guys think Zaheer and friends wouldn't do this. Literally everything about the characters and the situation as presented leads to the inescapable conclusion that Tenzin sacrificed his life valiantly in an attempt to keep the Red Lotus from taking the new air nation.

nah... the next episode will be like
while hosted on youtube this video is not safe for work and is quite violent and spoils a bit of higurashi
higurashi no naku koro ni

that much warning is needed ><;

They went off screen to make people think "what if". Basically the classical way of saying, "He's still alive" in most shows. They'd show it if he died.

lol, I literally said all of this verbatim yesterday but he not hearing me.

Stand and be counted! Did Tenzin live, or die?

#TeamAlive: Trey, Satch, Mariolee, Admiral Woofington, Hamlet

#TeamDemise: Htown, Spring-Loaded

I want you to tell me how you show three characters beat another character to death "onscreen" instead of "offscreen" in a Y7 rated kid's show.

They went off screen to make people think "what if". Basically the classical way of saying, "He's still alive" in most shows. They'd show it if he died.

this isn't an anime where they can show whatever the fuck they want. It's a children's cartoon stuck behind a Y7 rating.

some of y'all thought the Earth Queen was alive, too. Don't think I forgot.

count me on team alive.

But this is Legend of Korra. Anything can happen even if it's illogical.

"We're gonna kill you and that's why we're specifically asking you to surrender and using non-lethal attacks to beat you into submission."

'Kay.

But this is Legend of Korra. Anything can happen even if it's illogical.

of course the most illogical thing to this point for me was...
season 3 being good through the first 11 eps...
never saw that coming, it just doesn't make any sense given they didn't change the team from the first two seasons @_@

They wouldn't do this because of the writers. You're having this idealistic view of this being HBO or something. Throwing a guy into the fog was cruel, but kids and audiences already know it just means they'll go crazy in there and walk for ages. They've already shown main characters in there in a comical fashion, children will just think of that. And that was an extremely minor bad guy. Then the earth queen. She appeared on one episode prior to this and was shown to be the personification of 'evil evil evil evil'. Killing her off was their shock moment, which was to show that their mission of pure ruthlessness of anarchy/entropy had begun.

That clip they just showed only further adds evidence to my side
Korra talking about giving herself up to save the airbenders. They're not going to have her get there only for Zaheer to go "lol killed him!".
She'll probably arrive and see Tenzin all beat up and pleading to her to not give up. Or Aladdin kid arrives and tells them whats going on and they end up doing an assault.

"We're gonna kill you and that's why we're specifically asking you to surrender and using non-lethal attacks to beat you into submission."

'Kay.

They asked him to surrender. He refused. Then they killed him.

edit: Again, I'm still waiting for somebody to tell me some other way to get across that they were killing Tenzin in a Y7 show.

It's literally the same thing they did with the earth queen. Start killing with suffocation, the actual death happens off screen. Same thing with Tenzin. Start the kiling with the attacks, the actual death happens off screen.

You know what I'm not going to get into it over pure speculation on extremely little evidence when the answer will be here within the week with leaks if not in 7 days. I'll just do what every other GAF person has done in history and save your quotes for Friday because I'm confident. I'm prepared to eat crow, but I can tell you it won't happen with the utmost confidence. At least your 'off screen death with not enough drama' idea.

By smacking him with small attacks and dodging his potshots.

Zaheer just suffocated someone to death and you think that's the best they can do to kill someone.

...'Kay.

This. You're saying 'prove to me how else they would kill someone on a kid's show' when your demand is already like the tv writing equivalent of an oxymoron. You know how these writers kill people off screen who are good guys and decently big side characters? Look at Jet in ATLA.

No, I'm assuming the water bender made another one of her ice blades (remember, from when she was trying to kill Kya?) and stabbed the shit out of him, or the earthbender did the same with a spike of earth, or they just used good old fashioned blunt force trauma.

Whatever.

We'll see.

But seriously, why would they have the character just bring up, "as long as I'm still breathing", in that context, if the implication wasn't "well I guess we'll have to stop that then?"

to show his resolve. If Zaheer was about to catch a body he would have said some one-liner, and the killing blows would be much more explicit than random attacks.

Stand and be counted! Did Tenzin live, or die?

#TeamAlive: Trey, Satch, Mariolee, Admiral Woofington, Hamlet, zulux21

#TeamDemise: Htown, Spring-Loaded, Order

This is like the second most ridiculous thing I've ever felt I have argued in an Avatar series. For reference, the first was shipping battles back when the first show was airing.

Because 'I will never give up as long as I am conscious and able to fight and you guys don't gang up on me and slap me with small attacks' isn't nearly as powerful. It's like you think he's the only guy in the history of tv who has ever uttered these words.

It's not like he said "man after we evacuate the air benders I'm retiring"

Now THAT is a death sentence by western writing standards.

I've dealt with "the flowers in Zuko's room being red and blue means Zutara4ever" arguments.

Nothing can faze me now.

Think of it this way: Legend of Korra is finally decent enough to have a meta surround it in this thread. That means the community actually cares.

The whole Opal and Suyin Beifong are evil or part of Red Lotus was just as silly also.
Unless there's a big twist in the finale which I doubt.

Zuko and Katara. Fire and Water. When fire meets water, we get boiled water. Or steam. Steam is gaseous. Air is gaseous.

#Zutara and #Kataang both canon.

Think of it this way: Legend of Korra is finally decent enough to have a meta surround it in this thread. That means the community actually cares.

It's decent all right, but this wasn't what I was hoping to be discussing. I would have hoped the writers would have explored the ideology of the red lotus a bit more as it could be a decent discussion topic. But instead they kill an evil queen. That's the simplest method to get people to agree with anarchy.

The whole Opal and Suyin Beifong are evil or part of Red Lotus was just as silly also.
Unless there's a big twist in the finale which I doubt.

I remember that. People were all "Look at how Opal is looking at Bolin. She's clearly thinking "I am going to betray the shit out of you". Not to be confused with "I am really into this guy" look, which apparently the line to cross is very subtle."

They killed the Earth Queen essentially onscreen. Watch how the Red Lotus fight Bolin and Mako (who they keep alive since they're still trying to get Korra to come to them) then watch how they're fighting Kya and Bumi. No fucks given in the latter fight.

If Htown is right and Tenzin actually dies, I will happily change my avatar to whatever he wants.

Because there's no way that happens.

After re-watching the episode, i really dislike how Iroh being used again as to show Korra what is right in front of her.

Korra saying that Zuko knows Aang the best while Katara is still alive is -_-
