Yup. They fired it as they retreated.

Some tweets were saying that they threw it and retreated because they were hit with bottles. Guy holding it confirms they retreated, he's not sure what led to the police throwing it though.

I didn't think that was in doubt. A lot of times tear and smoke bombs get confused initially. Wouldn't be shocked if it was a mix of the two thrown. Probably depends on what the office has.

They are often used together. Regular smoke actually can carry the CS gas making it more effective over a longer area.

Regular smoke I'm effect actually carries the CS chemical.
