Witcher 3 Collector's Edition getting exclusive physical content on XB1 [CDP Comment]

exclusive game dlc is bad enough, now CE physical content exclusivity? wtf

this could start becoming a trend that will get ugly

just goes to show that greed knows no bounds

heres the problem:

The Fuck?

So they need to support their partner (MS) so they offer extra shit so MS supports them...

wut?
Searching for self contained logical interplay within a PR statement will turn your brain slightly 5 degrees in the wrong direction.

Funny to read it from CDR.
Don't have a problem with the deal... just looking forward to the day that publisher and developers communicate these messages after running them through a good, common sense vetting.

I kind of want to play the game on my PS4 but the extras are cool on XBO and I can get a etter price on the XBO version through Best Buy since I am a GCU member. So, I am having trouble deciding which one to get. Does anyone here know if they still have PS4 at 1080p and XBO at 900p? Is that how it's going to release?
They haven't said that anything has changed.
However you can bet your bushel of snapped peas that CDR is trying to optimize the XBOX One version.
Perhaps the value add play is an olive branch after realizing that will not be able to deliver resolution parity?

People are paying the same amount and getting less. Not that hard to understand why they would be upset. Coming into this thread and just shitting on people with legitimate complaints isn't exactly contributing.

This is my problem with it. I'm not picking the game up for consoles, I'm getting it on PC. If MS paid for the exclusive physical stuff, why not for both PC and Xbox? I usually don't bother with collector's editions, but I'm actually excited for this one, and that's given me some kind of OCD about needing it to be "complete". Now it won't be unless I get it on the One, which I don't even own (yet, waiting for a redesign as it can't fit in my media centre as it is).

It probably sounds dumb, and it probably is, but leave me alone. :c

people like collector's editions and physical things for series they love. how is this so hard to understand

I don't understand how well-adjusted people can get so upset over something so small. It baffles me. I can understand how one might be slightly bummed that their platform of choice won't be getting an extra physical bonus or two, but starting petitions and calling it gross or whatever equivalent is just...Well...I just see it as incredibly childish.

The Witcher is my favorite modern series ATM. I love these games. I already have TW3 pre-order and I rarely buy games Day 1.

Or maybe, some people are fed up with being lied too by gaming companies. Also, you are paying the same as the XboxOne version, but still get less just because of your platform of choice, so no wonder some people are a bit pissed off.
Yet the same thing happens all the time in the other direction as well.

I think people have a right to be pissed about it no matter what side they are on, we are human after all. I think the problem is no one knows where to turn, the easiest thing to do is complain about it here, but energies should be directed at those more responsible; Sony, Microsoft etc...

Yes, but instead they're only being directed at Microsoft, which is ridiculous. The bias in the userbases undermines the argument entirely. You can't boycott SquareEnix or CDPR over this shit and then happily buy Destiny, Batman games, Silent Hill, or whatever other game is getting better treatment on the PS4 for the same price. I mean, you CAN, but then you just look like a hypocritical asshole rather than someone that is genuinely upset over the state of the industry.

People can call Tomb Raider the straw that broke the camel's back, but it's a little funny that it's only Microsoft being broken for it, or that there was no such outcry from the same people over anything else. Heck, from what we know Tomb Raider could be exclusive for as little as 3 months or so, people were playing Destiny on PS4 longer ago than that, it's not even different.

Do you see the disappointment that occurs once we begin to try and find morality in big business? Once we began to think that CD Project Red were the "good guys" and Microsoft are the "bad guys"? Forgetting that this is a business about people trying to make money and make a living? CD Project Red is a small team and they just got some extra money from people who like to toss it away like it's nothing. Why be mad? It's not like we are not allowed to buy the X1 CE.

The other extreme is to not support this game at all but once we begin to cancel our support of games due to some breached moral code, we'll find ourselves hating this hobby.

I'm a huge Witcher fan and also a proud Sony fanboy so this stings. >< I was planning on buying the game twice anyway --- the PS4 CE and digital version. I've no problem buying the game twice for these devs. Now, because I'm such a fan, I'm probably going to buy the X1 CE to get the extra map and cards and then trade in the actual X1 game/manual/box for the PS4 version.

Yes you are correct, but most people don't like that either. Also, CDPR was like the last bastion of a truly honest developer up until this point, now they just lost that thanks to greed and MS.

I guess you missed all the reasons why MS is getting so much shit for the Tomb Raider exclusivity. Nobody is complaining about Sunset Overdrive even though it's from Insomniac.

What? People are mad because they paid money for a third party title to ship on their platform first. What part of that did I miss? They paid to fuck over the consumers that AREN'T on their system, same as Sony does with Destiny, the PS3 Batman games, etc. Again, this isn't news. This shit has been happening forever. If you're going to be outraged, be outraged at more than just Microsoft if you want your stance to actually have any meaning. Otherwise it's just whiny entitlement.

How is this even remotely like Destiny? Xbone and 360 is getting Destiny on the same day except for some timed exclusive content, also it's a new IP. Tomb Raider is huge franchise with a long history of being multi platform, and all of a sudden it's an exclusive, for who knows how long. Not the same thing as Destiny at all, or any other exclusive content deal that has been going on both platforms for a very long time. EDIT:Grammar

Don't players regardless of platform get a DRM-Free GoG Code for the PC version, anyway?

If so, just shift yer PC preorder to an X1, grab your dinky playing cards (which will likely be available at the Witcher Merch store anyway), and off you go?

It would be funny if The Witcher 3 led to a temporary spike in pre-owned Xbox One software sales.

Between this and the Tomb Raider stupidity, Microsoft is really starting to get on my nerves. i'm pretty sure i'll never buy one.
I've also cancelled my Witcher's 3 CE. I refuse to pay the same amount for a gimped version of the CE.

Microsoft is their Marketing Partner, you think that would come free? Xbox players will pay the same amount as PS4 players for Destiny !!DLC!! which will contain less content on the Xbox version, yet where is the meltdown, outrage and judgement?

Can't blame MS for this since Sony has been aggressively "money hatting" developers and publishers for (timed) exclusive content just as much as MS was during last gen.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a gorgeous looking game and CD Projekt are trying to deliver the same experience across the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Despite their similarities, the PS4 and Xbox One do have some decidedly unique hardware features. How will CD Projek be taking advantage of the PS4′s unified GDDR5 memory architecture and whether they will be developing specific graphical features which they might have found to be possible only on the PS4?
“We always want to provide the best possible experience to all our gamers regardless of the platform and so we are not aiming to develop special graphical features for any of them,” Balazs Torok, Lead Engine Programmer said to GamingBolt.
And regarding the kind of anti-aliasing technology they will use for PS4 and Xbox One versions, Balazs stated that they won’t be using hardware based MSAA. “We are still exploring some options regarding anti-aliasing but we are sure that it will be some kind of screen space anti-aliasing solution and not hardware MSAA,” he said.

Has this been posted yet?

As an Xbox owner, I think it's only fair we get some extra trinkets, as PS4 owners have more pixels even in the standard edition of the game :(

You do know that's for Watch_Dogs and not The Witcher 3, right?
That's not The Witcher 3...
That was Watch_Dogs, lol. Just putting in proportion.
Of course I do know it's Watch Dogs, that's why I quoted the picture to avoid confusion. But seems like it created even more so. Haha.

As for the TW3, as a person who pre-ordered the PC CE and the GOG version. I felt like I was slapped across the face, but I love CDPR and if this helps them push more games out then I can live with it though my respect for them has lost a small bit. I just hope the backlash is not too much and cause loss of sales instead.

look at the avatar.
Good observation, my man.

EDIT: with this new PS4 and XBO parity statement, I seriously hope that they mean there will be no unique extra bells and whistles and not that they will look the same across the 2 consoles in term of resolution, fps and whatnot. But they did said the PS4 will run at 1080 and is aiming for that for the XBO so hopefully no downgrade on the PS4 if they can't achieve that. I will be gaming on my PC so I don't really care but I don't want them to fall any lower and lose any more potential buyers.

Yeah, I read it to mean they won't spend time putting loads of GPGPU stuff in for the PS4, or whatever.

Seems like Microsoft Money is cursed.

I love CDProject and I love them much much more for GoG.com.

And I know its a little stupid and so on.
But: I lost some respect for them after they stood with Microsoft at the initial reveal with all the eff-ups that where going around in 2013. And now this...
I am not even getting a CE! But it rubs me the wrong way.

This is how I feel.

Yes, they are like any other game company. They need to make money to keep making games. Having a manufacturer foot the bill for advertising leaves you with more money to pay the people that work for you to make the games you like playing.

It's that simple. It's business. All of it. Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, all the publishers. They aren't you friends or your buddies. They need to make money to pay their people and keep the shareholders/owners happy.

The game will have the same content for all the systems. That was the promise, and they're keeping it. The rest of it puts some extra money in the jar for game development. I see no problem.

ok??? well i didnt think they were my friends, i dunno what gave you the idea. My point is they came out recently to say certain things and it seems like they are going back on their word.

Not too fussed as I don't buy physical games anymore. I can see their problem. They need to scratch Microsoft's back in order for MS to promote the game.

we all get to see the mona lisa. i'm not too concerned about getting a free t-shirt from the gift shop.

Pretty sure that's correct.
In any case I want a cloth map. Gimme the option to buy a cloth map without having to buy an X1 please!

That's fine, if you like it and only got a PS4, buy it, take the game out and sell only the game, take the ps4 copy and put it inside...

There you go. Looks like a really extensive CE; CDPR including the extensive paper guide at retail for W2 was a nice touch. Offering a discount on the sequel for owners of the game is also a great move that I hope publishers take note of.

The Witcher is possibly the only PC game I buy a physical copy of nowadays. Still getting the PC collectors edition, no stopping me.

Wouldn't the fact it's not anything of substance mean it actually didn't add value to the Xbox One version?

Sorry, I worded that badly. I meant nothing of substance in regards to gameplay. There are people that think cloth maps and playing cards are of incredible substance, as evidenced here;

Are you fucking kidding me ?

Um, no? Is it great that non Xbox One gamers miss out on these things? Of course not, in an ideal world all gamers would get the same content regardless of platform. But we don't live in an ideal world, we live in this crummy one. Exclusive content is something that's going to keep happening, nothing is going to stop that train. So if we have to have exlusive content deals I personally would much rather lose out on tat like cloth maps and playing cards than actual game content like extra missions, items etc.

What the fuck
Why the hell that fucking CLOTHMAP should be exclusive to one platform? I don't care about the card, I just want that CLOTHMAP framed on the wall of room D:
Fuck this shit, I'm still buying the PC CE though. I'm just massively disappointed by their decision.

Haha, who cares about this garb. But still, kind of an awkward spot to be in after what they said about this very type of stuff. This is why you developers have to be careful the deals you walk into.

With CDP's comments anyone else get the feeling Microsoft is telling these companies they wont promote their game unless they get something special?

However, CD Projekt Red needs “the support of partners to make our game visible worldwide,” hence the decision for the better Xbox One Collector’s Edition tie in.

As of late I've been getting super into the witcher. ( I'm almost done reading blood of elves) I'll have a ps4 by the time this comes out but I guess I'll be getting it for xbox for the extra goodies.

I'm mildly annoyed by this.

I mean I'm already paying $150, throw in the fucking rest of the stuff...oh wait I'm buying on PC

Obviously the consoles have been better to the dev than the PC crowd over the years.

whatever, I'll pick up the map on ebay.
