I dunno how I feel about a curfew. Maybe for minors

civilians are being punished for a police officer murdering someone and fleeing the scene.

Fuck curfews.

If you or I did this fucking bullshit, we'd be under the prison by now waiting for a trial to confirm we go further under the jail. We'd be in jail with some bullshit impossible bail.

Lady is right. No one would be on the streets if they charged this motherfucker already. There's no amount of balking or covering up they can do. Give us your man and we will get off the streets.

So basically...

I don't agree one bit with the way the local police handled the situation, nor do I believe this kid should have been killed, but people there looting are doing themselves a disservice.

EDIT: I'm just going by the breif bit I read on the news just now, that there was issues last night. Was that played up by the media that they were looting/destroying property?

I'm not even subscribing to the arrest now argument, but even if they acknowledged to building a proper case with the help of outside sources would even be a valid answer.

I have no problem with the curfew or what the police are doing in response to the looters. I have a problem with the fact that they don't want to answer any questions about why this all started in the first place.

Welp. All I can say is that the curfew is fucked and I hope it doesn't cause nights to be any worse than they've been...

These things feel quite different when its happening 15 minutes away.

The rioting, looting, and burning shit down is probably playing a part too...

Yes by a handful of people, and you're just seeing that, and only that on the media. Watch the streams, watch the myriad of white people, black people, mexican people, etc all protesting peacefulyl. Your narrative about how aiming sniper rifles at protesters/arresting members of the press is complete bullshit. And you're fully aware of this aren't you? Let me know if you're not. We can start whenever you need to.

There is no need for seal team 6 to aim sniper rifles at white women on bullhorns CornDogg.

Or, do you not understand that this Police department is the same department that charged a black man, after beating him nearly to death, had the wrong person, for property damage because he bled on their outfits.

Why on earth would you take any information coming from a soured source to mean anything, and why on earth would you post that right now? As if they have any credibility based on the way they've handled the entire situation. I'm not ignoring them tear -gassing aljazeera, then stealing their equipment/dismantling it. Or arresting journalists because they take photos, without handing over their badge numbers.

Lets not forget this whole thing started because a cop shot a person and has run away from the justice system.

People are protesting police lack of accountability and abuse.

People are being abused by non-accountable police.

exactly,

They couldn't even do that though. It's a monumental clusterfuck the way this is getting handled.

The governor basically saying shit isn't going to get done until you stop the looting is just going to incite unrest.

Governor dodged a shitload of questions, talked about security when people were asking about persecutions, and there's a curfew now
Thanks!

A curfew? So its basically martial law. Fucking fantastic. This entire police department better be canned.

In the back of his mind I would imagine,

"If you don't stop looting/protesting...HE GETS PAID LEAVE!"

The people looting weren't part of the protests. In fact, when it was going on, the protesters lined themselves in front of the shops to stop it. Many of them said the looters drove in from out of town and they were trying to amp up the situation just so they could start looting.

Yeah I really don't see this whole curfew thing going over too well. Telling a bunch of adults that they can't be outside in their own city surely is never a good idea.

What did she say?

She asked why the root of the protest not being answered in this conference. Why is the shooter not arrested or convicted yet, and she said that would cause the protest to die down. Instead they are trying to silence the protest instead of working on the cause of it. The whole conference has been about how they will work to calm the protest down instead of answering and responding to the voice of the protest.

The child is crying and you see it's leg is being crushed yet the mother is trying to put a pacifier in it's mouth instead of attending to the problem.

Oh alright, thanks. Things change constantly so I wasn't up to date. But yeah, not sure I agree with applying a curfew. It is basically martial law, but they don't want to say that phrase because then all hell would break loose.

See this is some bs stop bringing up the damn looting. The looting and rioting that a small number of people are doing has nothing to do with the issue at hand which is a police officer apparently executed a person on the street and the police department are doing everything they can to back him up and that includes breaking multiple laws, intimidating people, and putting out information that has nothing to do with what happened in order to smear a dead persons character.

Constantly bringing up the looting and rioting means you have lost sight of what has happened and are buying into the narrative that the police department in Ferguson are trying to spin in the cops favor. It honestly makes anyone who keeps mentioning the riot and looting look like fools and possibly maybe even closet racists.

A horrible event. Doesn't mean that the people rioting, looting, and destroying the property of unrelated parties are justified in their actions.

An 18 year old kid was killed and they react by publically demonizing the kid.

Some private property got stolen or destroyed, and they go straight to the microphones to cry about it while they crackdown on the entire community.

This is exactly why people are pissed off. It's not excusing the acts of the looters, but it is a sign of how lopsided the response is to the two different scenarios.

I'm sorry, I didn't know the full story of the last 12 hours, just logged on to follow it again. Thanks for clarifying.

eh. Not closet racist. Definitely naive. But not racists.

On a Saturday night, too.

They know what they are doing.

This is all just to get people rioting. They know full well what the fuck is going to happen. They will have their machine guns ready and everything else, as to say "See!?!?!?" If I put my finger in a hornet nest, I expect to be stung. I don't blame the hornets. These people have minimized minorities, treated them like shit, beat them for no reason, and have always got off scott free. Now these are the people telling you to shut the fuck up and stay at home?

Theres only one unfortunate outcome to all of this. Hopefully a reporter gets shot/maimed so the pressure can continue. As America has already accepted that this is an acceptable way to deal with negros. Our only hope is the media getting fucked up. We don't matter, but the media at least does.

It does seem pretty fucking absurd that the cop hasn't been charged this long after the fact.

There are a number of logical explanations for this:
The autopsy won't be complete until the tox report is finished
There is a dispute about who should prosecute the case, the local prosecuting attorney or the AG
In this case, charges will be issued by a Grand Jury, according to one of the news reports I saw, which greatly slows the process down. In my jurisdiction, I believe all police shootings go first to the GJ if not also a citizen review panel as well. Grand Juries are not going to meet over the weekend and may only meet a few days a week. Mine work two days a week but they could meet more I would imagine. I could explain the grand jury process in this case more if you'd like, but this is not a "ham sandwich" case.

It is incredibly easy to be frustrated over the lack of arrest of the officer, but police shootings are their own breed of crime and treated differently than civilian crimes.
