Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

Sami's the only one I'd be bummed out about them deciding against doing. It'd be a damn shame if they didn't go with her. Lynn, Knuckles, Isaac, and Skull Kid I wouldn't honestly care that much about.

Lyn, Sami & Isaac > Knuckles, Skull Kid & Pichu by a lot. The latter read like a list of assist trophies at best.

Doesn't quite look like Sami to me. Hair and face are the problem.

It's the use of the more realistic face and the hair modeling versus Advance Wars' stylized character art that always gets me. The rest is well done.

The only avatar bet I ever made, I lost.

Fucking Zapdos.

Do not cry for him.

DO NOT CRY

According to people here and smashboard, there is a guy that used to work on Project M (or still is) leaked the Sami's model and 5 playable characters on 4chan or so.

Sami, Skull Kid, Knuckle, Lyn and Isaac.

Very nice if they're included in the future.

I may have a chance to get Brigadier Betty yet.

Wait seriously? :D

Yeah, no way does Smash release without a good DLC supplement happening down the road. I felt confident in the game receiving regular balance patches and maintenance update at the least, but now I feel confident in a good bit of substance coming in the future.

This also simultaneously made me re-hyped for Mario Kart 8.
I'll even take just porting over retro battle-tracks and the cast who got cut from MKWii/7, though I think unless that Diddy Kong Racing U rumor is true having a few DKR tracks would be neat.

As for post-launch support odds, I'd say:
-Bug-fixing patches: Damn near guaranteed. I can't see them not doing this, and it doesn't go against anything Sakurai's said. Also, I believe there are multiple disc-versions of Brawl and Melee, with different versions fixing certain glitches. So I don't see why they wouldn't just swap that out for a downloadable patch.
-Balance patches: possible. I'd like it. But I can't say I think it's very likely unless DLC ends up happening.
-Content DLC: Kinda believe it after the Gematsu rumor and with Amiibos being a thing. They're going to want to keep supporting to this game. I really hope this is possible.

Balance patches come out, addresses issues that Sakurai thinks are a problem rather than what "the scene" is complaining about. Mass hysteria ensues.

I think what's disappointing me the most - of what I can definitely observe - is that Bowser still uses his dumb roar instead of his actual voice from Mario canon.

I want Bowser to have a taunt where he shouts "SHOWTIME!"

but then you stopped

What are you talking about? I never stopped avatar betting. I even have a 6 month bet happening.

Then you left us and stopped making random bets. You were my avatar betting mentor, and you abandoned me. ;_;

What are you on about? I never stopped betting! Who is feeding you this info! Thos is almost as bad as the people who think I have more losses than wins. >.<

I never abandoned you, Hyrda! D:

I got to agree. The game looks great and has moved strongly in a different direction from the past two entries, yet they still keep Bowser and Donkey Kong's sound effects, which just don't fit this game all that well.

On a similar note, I feel like the only person who legitimately likes DK's voice in Jungle Beat-onwards so it's always a shame he and Diddy get saddled with gorilla/monkey grunts.

EDIT: Hardly surprising, but the Nintendo rep IGN's stream was talking to mentioned a ton of information coming shortly independent from the Miiverse. Dunno if that was a hint at another Direct or just the game's Japanese release in less than a month.

Actually, Bowser's roar is from Mario canon.

Just search those words in youtube, you wil see. I'd link, but I am in mobile.

I believe he's referencing the Billy and Mandy Cartoon.
Ah. Never watched much of that cartoon.

I'd rather he say "IT'S SHOWTIME" when he activates his final smash and become a giant bowser like in M&L 3/4 (instead of giga, though I guess it could still work with that version).

Actually, on that note, it's a bit weird to have bowser become giga when a canon giant transformation exists in actual mario games, rather than just taking his final melee form.

I'd be 50/50 on DLC before it was discovered MK8 had DLC cup hooks in the code.

That makes me lean toward thinking Smash will have some, as well.

HNNNNNG i want dlc for MK8 so badly, i love it so much but the not-too-great roster and lack of new stuff to do caused me to get kind of bored.

Amiibos have piqued my interest, becoming a sparring partner for smash bros seems neat, but if they announce that amiibos will unlock mk8 content im going all in. Gimmie greninja and samus racing on biddybuggies

Source? Are there files?
It might be on his site or just in an interview, but Grant Kirkhope (who along with being one of Rare's main composers voiced DK in DK64) mentioned Sakurai/HAL approached Rare to use the voice clips but never wound up implementing them.

Annoying as fuck since Rare scrapped their old Scribes archives, but Loveday also claimed that Rare made a ton of Rare-related content for Melee that were mostly scrapped, though I think he mostly meant trophies.

I wonder if Banjo was planned for Melee in the very early character designs, he would have been a perfect fit for the game, relevant and popular at the time.

Imagine, had rare not been sold, Banjo probably would have been a character! It's disappointing to think about...

Boy do I wish this stuff had been buried on the disc.

I'm surprised it isn't. It really shows how different the development of Melee was from Brawl. Melee had barely cleaned their disc up, but didn't have much cut content left on it. Brawl cleaned up a little more, but still left a lot of traces of much more cut content (characters, assist trophies, etc.)
