will gently cradle you as time slowly ticks away.
Why is it that there's always one godamn screw on your motherboard that's impossible to get out...

What should be my roadmap going forward? My 780s only having 3GB is starting to worry me, and I wonder if i should just 'bail out', sell them both and trade up to a pair of 6gb models, or wait until the 880's arrive.

Also, does anyone have any experience supersampling over displayport? Is it more reliable? Currently I can hit '3K' (2880x1620) at 100hz over DL-DVI as long as my secondary monitors are disconnected, but I really just wanna drool over 4k at a higher refresh than 60 without having to resort to Gedosado etc.

2500k @ 4.0GHz
16GB 1600MHz Corsair
Asrock Extreme4

GTX 780 (3GB) x2 @ 954/3004
1x 24" Phillips Brilliant 1080P 144Hz
2x 22" AOC IPS 1080P (cheapy ancillary displays)
Asus Xonar U7 USB DAC/Sound

Samsung 840 Evo - 256GB
2x Seagate 2TB 7200RPM SSHD - 8GB Cache - (One for Work VMs/User Documents, Other dedicated for Game Installs/Steam)
2x Seagate 4TB Backup+ Externals

Corsair RM850 - 850W
Corsair 230T - Black
Zalman CNPS 7500 Cu

Damn, DPI adjustment on my Logitech G5 no longer works. Seems to be a physical failure.

What's the equivalent mouse these days? Nothing too crazy, but a solid piece of kit. Thanks.

edit: G400s maybe? just looking at OP.

this sucks, the asus vs238H-P isn't in stock anywhere
the benq is but it's like 280 euros:(
Does it have to run in 144 hz mode to get any kind of decent response times?

I've been out of the loop for a while, but I bought a BenQ RL2455HM for €180 somewhere last year. It seemed to do well in reviews speed-wise back then and I was okay with 60Hz. I didn't want to mix refresh rates (or replace both my monitors) because that still sounds like asking for trouble.

I don't know how well it still holds up, but check out TFT Central for reviews (including 120/144Hz monitors).

I am very new to PC gaming, and a lot of this stuff seems like a whole new language to me. My friends helped me build this rig in the spring:

Intel Core i5-3350p CPU @ 3.10GHz
Nividia GeForce GTX 760
8.2 GB RAM
Windows 7 64 bit

All I know is that wolfenstein and watch dogs ran like ass. Screen tearing galore and sub-30 frame rate. Does anyone know what the problem could be? and if I could upgrade one part, what should it be? I just bought a witcher 3 code, so I at least want that to be playable haha

It's your cpu. What motherboard do you have? A 3570k or 3770k would be a decent upgrade if you have an overclock able boar.

ASRock Z75 Pro3 LGA 1155 Intel Z75 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

sorry idk how to shorten that. That is the direct title from Newegg lol

I just bought a windowed side panel for my Fractal R4. Originally got the non-windowed model, but a year later decided to buy this. The noise isn't that different, not checked temps yet.

Also ordered some white LEDs from Amazon like a true 26 year old gangster. Now everyone
who comes in to my room and looks under my desk
will have a clear view of my off-center CPU cooler and graphics card with some droop going on.

Where do you live? I can't find anywhere in US that sells just the panel :(

Okay, so I'll be able to make a £30 saving if I go for the Asus Z97-A board instead of the PRO and get a wi-fi adapter separately. Does anyone have any recommendations for an adapter? I've put this one in my list for the moment. I know I should go wired but it's really not an option right now.

What's the best way to stop graphics card droop?

The cables aren't overly tight or anything.

UK. I got mine straight from Amazon UK, sorry. :(

Anyone have the Black NZXT Phantom 410? It looks like it has some Blue lighting on it. I'm interested in that case but most of the components I have selected have a black/red color scheme.

Do you guys think it is going to look weird with blue lights but red parts inside?

It comes in different color schemes I believe....according to their website...

http://www.nzxt.com/product/detail/95-phantom-410-mid-tower-case

The black with white might look cool with red parts inside....

...or you could go with the sweet orange and black, and do an SOC Force motherboard inside.

Hey guys

Wanting to upgrade my current rig always thought my rig's FPS was always really bad don't think ive played a game on here where the frame rate doesn't drop all the time >< Not sure if it's the temps casuing it or maybe bottlenecks? example even diablo and crysis 3 drops alot as did wolfensiten. Temps for my GPU and CPU reach about 60 but that might be bad airflow which i'm fixing soon, got a new case, fans and an Evo 212 coming. could be over estimating my rig maybe?

Current specs

i5 3570k
Gigabyte AMD Radeon 7950
12GB RAM (2 different makes of RAM 4 sticks in total)
550W PSU (Yes I need an upgrade also on the list but any recommendations for a powersupply with longish cables would be great)
This Motherboard

Oh and recommendations on a GPU? might upgrade that soon maybe 400£ on one?

Yeah I was looking at the Black and White but doesn't seem like that's sold anywhere right now. :(

I was looking for other Black/Red cases but everyone I could find was kinda ugly except for the NZXT H440 but that was a little procier than I was expecting, and it doesn't support a disc drive which is the one part I already have received for free. Haha.

I built my PC about 2-3 years ago. I really remember nothing at all. I watched a 2 hour Youtube video and put it together, so I'm not very tech savvy.

I'm ready to upgrade to an SSD but I have no idea how to do it. Is it easy? I want to transfer all the data on my HD over so I don't have to worry about installing Windows again or anything. Or hell, maybe it's a good idea to just do a fresh install? I have W7 now. Should I just get a new SSD and install Windows 8 to it? There shouldn't be any compatibility issues with my Steam backlog, right?

What do you guys suggest?

I can't speak for others but Crucial comes w/ a software license to a verison of acronis true image that lets you clone pretty easily. All I did was clone then swap HDD and change boot order (if necessary). Switched 3 computers to SSDs recently and it was pretty straight forward.

I haven't had any probs gaming on Win8.

Ok. Also, I still can't shake the feeling that it doesn't seem worth it. $300 on a 500 gig SSD for what, so it boots faster? Is that the only benefit? Or will I see any benefit to gaming?

For Gaming loading times will be decreased as will installation times. Prgrams will open faster swell like browsers apps like the steam client etc. But I was the same as you so I only bought a 120GB SSD for my OS and a few games the rest of my content goes on my 1TB HDD

Reduced load times for games, but the entire system overall will improve. We're talking off to desktop in 10 seconds.

Don't get a 500GB SSD though, unless you have a specific need. I have a LOT of media and games, and even I only have a 128GB drive. You only need room for Windows (~25GB or so), programs you frequently use (if not all of them), and maybe a game or two. A 128 or 256GB drive coupled with a mechanical drive with terrabytes of space will be fine.

Does anyone know what the Pentium K G3258 is equivalent to? I keep look at recommended spec sheets and its never there, but I know its better than a core2duo and the old pentium dual cores

Okay, good stuff. I'm guessing it's easy to have both installed at the same time? I just pop in the SSD in a second bay, and when I boot up, I can choose between the two?

If you want to keep an OS on both yeah you can choose but if you have you're OS on just one like the SSD it'll boot up to it by itself

hey, pc gurus

what would be the best "bang for the buck" nvidia gpu upgrade for my rig that would play well with my monitor's resoultion ( 2048 x 1536 )?

my current specs are as follows:

i7-2600
8gb ram
nvidia geforce gt 630
power supply 400w

What PSU model / make is it?
My guess is it's some prebuilt so a 750Ti SC 2GB is probably the best 'value' at that PSU, but you didn't specific how much you can spend. You'd be looking at a PSU upgrade and a higher end card for that resolution. What games / Settings / FPS targets do you want to hit on what budget?
I'm trying to decide if I want to upgrade my CPU or GPU at the moment.

I have:

AMD Phenom II X4 960T Black Edition (3GHz)
and
EVGA GTX 660 (2GB VRAM)
OC CPU. Drop in a GPU upgrade. Otherwise you'd have to move to Intel for a CPU upgrade. Dunno what your budget is or what games matter most. If it's for more recent titles then moving to Intel will probably be nicer, but cost more for not that much gain.
Again: Budget, settings, games, FPS targets

Because it's a dual core it can move around a lot, but OC'd it's both below and above the i3 at times and in most cases for gaming above the FX chips.

A 780. Or wait for the 800 series.
Edit. Good catch Haz. I didn't look at psu. 750ti is best bet without an upgraded psu.

Depends really on the applications. Games it is as fast as an i5 and 8350. But falls behind in media applications like encoding or video editing. Hell of a chip.

One last question - I'm rocking an i5 2500k and a GTX570 right now. My plan is to upgrade before Witcher 3 drops.

What's my best option - wait for 800 series (will they be out by February?) and only upgrade GPU? Or should I upgrade the CPU as well? Don't want to bottleneck the new GPU.

So my CPU is apparently not good(see above) I can really upgrade to anything from intel for cheap because my brother in law works at Intel. Could anyone give me a suggestion. I have heard i7 isn't worth it at all for games, but then I have seen some people say it is...so idk

Planning on getting an R9 290. Anybody had experience with the PCS+ card? You can snag one for $350 on Newegg.

Definitely considering it, but the NewEgg reviews seem to indicate it may have some stability issues.

Yeah, thats definitely good enough for now. Thanks. I plan to upgrade next year to a 4790k, but the more I can get out of this chip in the meantime, the better.

Nope. I'd guess similar or $50 less than 7xx pricing.

That doesn't seem right at all. It's a recent i5 at 3.1Ghz. Granted I haven't checked how Wolfenstein runs and I know WD can run like poop. 760 is a great card. Maybe WD ran out of RAM, but I doubt WS would.
Try installing the latest beta drivers and lowering settings to start with.

Most 290's have a chunk of bad reviews from the first batch. When I was looking around it seemed like nothing but the tri fan Saphhires were 'kinda okay'. If it ends up being bad just RMA

Yeah, I read the Fudzilla review, and it sounds like a great card. I went ahead and ordered it.

Sorry for the repeat post but it was a couple pages back and I never got an answer, would really appreciate any help

Okay, so a couple questions:

1. I'm going to upgrade to a GTX 880 when they get released (unless there's a compelling reason not to) from my GTX 680 2GB, and I was wondering what to do with the old card. I can't imagine that it sells second-hand for very much since it's just the totally stock one that I bought on its launch day, and I had the idea to use it as a dedicated PhysX card. Is that overkill? Would the power it would be sucking to run not be worth it? Looking for opinions on this one.

2. I haven't messed with watercooling before, save more my desire to get a closed loop one from either Corsair or NZXT for my processor. However, this has been eclipsed by a new idea proposed in a video review for this case here: http://www.nzxt.com/product/detail/1...mid-tower.html

I'm in love with that case, the looks and how quiet it tried to be, and what was proposed was two triple radiators, one along the top and one along the front side (it can fit those) with high static pressure fans on both. I assume one radiator would connect to the CPU and the other to the GPU, but since I've never messed with anything like that, I have no idea where I would even begin. Any information there would be extremely helpful and greatly appreciated

I want the fastest possible machine without being a jet engine like my current build, and I'm willing to pay for it

1. Sell it. PhysX with a second card just adds noise and heat with little benefit. Your card should still be worth at least $200 when the 800 series comes out.

2. That is custom loop stuff. Mkenyon is the resident expert, but you're looking at the basics below.

CPU Block - 60-100
GPU Block - ~100
Radiators - 100+
Pump 60-100
Fittings - 100+
Tubing - 20-30
Fans - 20-100+

dazmode has some good video guides on the basics of water-cooling here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmbmW-I8Bno

As for specific parts - that depends a lot on what you want to do, how much you want it spend, what you want it to look like and how much work you're willing to put it.

Watercooling is a deep dangerous hole, that you will never get out of but some say it's worth it (finishing my first WC build next month - I started over a year ago)

Hey Gaf, sorry to keep posting my build but I'm gonna finally be able to build after September starts, and I'm going to order a few key parts that are on sale right now. I need you guys to double check my build.

The thing I am most concerned about is whether or not my PSU is good for the build. PCPartPicker says my build will require 441 Watts, but I wanna make sure you guys think I'll be ok.
