Oh, so it's just like my area then. I technically live in Hyattsville MD but it's just a suburban extension of Washington DC.

OK, so now I really don't believe that they were investigating the shoplifting to the point where descriptions of Mike Brown or the cigars were being circulated. I'd like to give the police the benefit of the doubt when I can but everything the Ferguson Police Department has done since the shooting occurred has been a giant shitshow.

You don't have enough information about this person to make a judgment like that. Situations like this are actually harder to understand if you insist on turning the players into cartoonish, mustache-twirling villains.

After looking this up again, you are correct that he threw the gun after the shooting started. The initial news reports that I read back when it first happened were mistaken and said that he threw the gun down first. Wasn't intentionally lying about it, thanks.

To be fair to Wilson, the paid administrative leave is something that his union probably negotiated for (not in this particular case, but something that all police unions probably try to win for their members,) he's probably remained quiet on advice of his and the PD's lawyers, and he's probably not sunning himself on a beach somewhere (if he knows what's good for him.)

It would be nice if those in charge of this situation would pull their heads out of their asses and make a statement to clarify those things though. Perhaps, "Darren Wilson is on leave per his contract of employment, but he has been advised not to leave the [whatever political division he's not supposed to leave pending the completion of the investigation], and is not making any public comments on advice of his attorneys. We are aware of his location and he will be brought in to investigators as the need arises."
