Ferguson: Police Kill 18yo Black Male; Fire Gas/Rubber Bullets Into Protesting Crowds

Well, no. You were just not understanding what was being discussed. The people you were replying to in the post I quoted were complaining about a lack of "refereeing" and about CNN presenting all opinions as "equally valid". Nothing about how good journalists leave their audience totally ignorant that there are people who are on one particular side or that they should not give their audience an idea of what those people are arguing.

On Ferguson in particular, it's pretty easy to gather the stories of "both sides" in this thread. Maddow on MSNBC, cable-wise, has been pretty good (she usually is) about not pretending that there aren't people on the other side even as she tries to put what's going on in context and tries to sort out what's actually happening. IIRC there was a Vox link a while back that seemed to do a good job of laying out how sure we could be of various claims (at the time).

The original quote is on the previous page.

And I can see the issue you're talking about, however, I'd rather they talk about it than not discuss it at all. You're right though, it would be better if they were more critical of the info they are getting.

And I tried to watch Maddow at the beginning of this and IMO she injects too much personal feeling and opinion into her stuff. She doesn't even seem to try to be objective.

That's not what was said at all. He suggested that CNN isn't a good news organizations because it spends too much time forcing a false balance by presenting both sides "for stories where it shouldn't." You're projecting and everyone is following you down the rabbit hole.

And in this case, it should be.

Last I checked this isn't a climate change thread, or a bestiality thread.
...they're illustrative examples of the folly of arguing that we need to hear both sides as though both sides are equivalent or worthy of hearing, to show why your argument is poor. That you missed this so many times is blowing my mind.

The point is, in this case, both sides are relevant.

I don't think those are good analogies because we already know the truth about bestiality and climate change. We don't know all the details here just yet. He should be arrested though.

I love that video:

"I thought you were gonna be funny. Come on, John, be funny."
"I am not your monkey."

I just saw a clip of Don Lemon reporting on this and couldn't help but think of The Daily Show clip on him.

But man, why aren't the media themselves more up in arms about all the violations here? The Supreme Court struck ruled similar cases of media blackout and banning protests in certain areas. I'm having a hard time coming up with how the highway patrol and local police won't be up to their eyes in civil lawsuits.

I didn't say they were good examples, but they're pretty clearly just that -- examples. Which is why I am confused when someone continually asserts that this thread is not about discussing those subjects when no one was trying to, because they're examples being used in an argument.

I am Mike Brown feed host just said St. Louis man killed had a small or butter knife. Come on police...stop this shit.

Ever seen what a small knife can do? Inmates regularly murder each other with tiny blades all the time. And they (cops) can't just assume th damned thing is dull or a butter knife.

Also, it's pretty much "obvious" by reports of what the dude was saying that he was trying to suicide by cop.

My issue is they struggle to report both sides on stories that shouldn't.

So, you don't want both sides?

You're saying you didn't miss the point.

Our point was explaining why they don't like CNN. Because they aren't out to report the truth, they just want to appease viewers of any belief.

You're trying to make it about this, because of the thread, but we were explaining why it can be and has been a problem.

DreamDrop doesn't like them for that reason, so they don't watch CNN at all. That's it. DreamDrop doesn't respect their ethos, so they won't watch CNN for this reason.

But this is off-topic, so let's drop it.

The performance on Film The Police was great. This is the kind of stuff we missed by not having more daytime streams.

Interesting segment on msnbc now. Bob McCullough's father was a cop who was killed by a black man. Local residents want him to recuse himself.
