Ferguson: Police Kill 18yo Black Male; Fire Gas/Rubber Bullets Into Protesting Crowds

Guess we have to hope Wilson is at least a fucking ham sandwich then, because if a grand jury doesn't indict then it must have been a really poor job of prosecution. Don't grand juries have a much lower bar to clear for true bill given they are only moving a case to court, not handing down a verdict?

They just look for probable cause, not beyond a reasonable doubt. That is a very low bar. That said you definitely can go in and tank a case as a prosecutor, If you outright tell them that or they ink you're being dishonest with them, they can fuck you and issue the indictment. Of course, who is on the grand jury? Retirees, former law enforcement, friends of the judge. It's a weird system at times. They can take on a life of their own if they want and think they are being used as a tool to cover up for someone. I've seen that happen in my local county. I don't have a lot of faith in the gj not doing exactly what the prosecutor wants them to do, unfortunately.

How much are they?

Tim's gotten a lot of recognition for using it in the past. I remember him using it during the Brooklyn protests last year.

You usually can't buy them. They're rentable, though. I remember Livestream would do it. It's called the LiveU Backpack. If I had to put a price on it...30 grand? I believe that's what it was, I'd have to check.

If so, those things are really cool.
They take the 4 wireless networks and put them all together get a stream going.

Yeah, it's really neat. They make stuff now that is just the network bonder, and you can use it on anything that takes USB (like a Tricaster/streaming computer, for example). Those are like 10 grand.

Fake Edit: Top of the page again! I'm real good at this, so I'll add one more.

Under what legal theory could a president make a governor resign? He's not a king

None. But he can absolutely apply pressure/call for him to resign.

Correct. The purpose of the Grand Jury is to determine if there is probable cause which is substantially lower than the reasonable doubt standard. The poster you are responding to is as incredulous as I am (and also appears to be an attorney) that the prosecutor appears so unsure that there is even probable cause in this case.

I don't know how you can try hiding behind a grand jury to do your dirty work in a case like this. It is just very distasteful to me. I don't want to be a hypocrite here, because I've considered the option myself before deciding otherwise, but I think here will need to be a very clear explanation issued on why that was the result. And it is hard for me to see a report satisfying 75% of the folks who are upset.

Things look much calmer tonight. Police just keeping a minimal side presence than a huge show of force. Lets hope they stay that way even as it gets late tonight. Things could just get worse depending how any further developments in the case go tomorrow.

so the prosecutor has full control over the evidence.

Police starting to form a line and force people out of a parking lot and onto the sidewalk and to keep moving. Hoping nothing serious comes from it, but it's definitely raising tensions with some of the protesters.

"no entertainment for TV tonight"

smart, the police are really just wanting shit to pop off and want to ride that high...just keep moving

11:07: Tim first asks if anyone has water to drink.

Edit: I'm keeping this post. I don't mean to sound irreverent, but if this is honestly what they are going with, it's a goddamn joke.

So let me see if I got this straight:

He, contrary to eyewitness reports, provokes the cop by slamming a door shut in the cops face.

jim-carrey-door-slam-short-o.gif

He then, by their own words, "MMA Superman Punches at the cop through a window"

He goes after the cop's gun and after being shot, he then runs the fuck away.

Successful_troll.gif

Guy, while shot and bleeding on top of running for a prolonged period of time, starts smack talking the guy who shot him.

rajon-rondo-kevin-garnett.gif

He then charges fuckin' Wolverine style headlong into someone with a gun from over 30 feet away. Despite the blood loss he must have suffered by this point.

And all of this, of course, flies in the face of all eyewitness testimonies.

There is no way in fuck this is what they are going with. I refuse to believe that a prosecutor would actually bring that before a Grand Jury when not only are the FBI, DOJ, and the current administration watching... but with the whole world watching.

Agreed. With a case this public, it certainly seems distasteful, but I cynically think that the prosecutor wants to simultaneously tank while shirking responsibility. At least that's what I gather based on the tweets, which may or may not be accurate.

I should add that I am skeptical of the tweets. I mean, they are basically one step removed from the prosecutor stating, "I am going to present evidence that Brown posed an immediate danger to the officer and to others. What's that? No PC? My work here is done." You don't take the defense's best hypothetical set of facts and treat them as your own. It just sounds too far-fetched, but who fucking knows in this system anymore.

Thanks for the replies, appreciate it.
