Goddamnit Sorbo! We trusted you!

Wait, what?

The DOJ being on the scene and investigating.

Perhaps I am misinterpreting, but I took most of this protest as being against the local cops, and having an outside party come in an look, with some expectation of actual justice, has cooled things down.

No proof yet, just "leaks" from his cop friends.

Thanks.

Something tells me that if he did suffer such an injury that we'd have at least some evidence by now. The area surrounding the eye usually swells up quite a bit not to mention the crazy amount of bruising that lasts for weeks.

For you black US gaffers how much has this event affected you in terms of where you thought race relations where in the US? VS where an event like this has really shown a lot of people's weird thought processes on race.

I'm shocked at the outpouring of some very, very dodgy stuff. I thought Obamas reelection got some people's backs up and they went to town woth the racist comments, but this event has seen the hatred ratcheted up past that.

None of us are shocked. That's the tiring part. This is a part of our lives and this is just the moment when others get to see it.

I'm generally in a good part of life. I have a nice career, education, and all that jazz, and I've still run into the shit, so I know it must be worst for people of color who are poorer. I have family in those situations and the stories aren't great.

When I'm at work, I'm completely cognizant of how my actions not only reflect on me, but my race. It's weird and it's kind of fucked up that it has to be like that.

Thanks.

are you kidding me? if he was actually hurt there would have been pictures on the first day...none of this secrecy.

Fantastic interview by Sean Hannity. I'm usually not a fan of his, but he really took this interview and brought it home.

I had to stop watching that shit when he pulled the "eyewitness report says Wilson had a broken orbital and Brown charged at him" horeshit. I'm guessing Fox News has spent the past 2 weeks discrediting all those eyewitness reports from the black folks who actually live in the neighbor but some report coming out of conservative sources sourcing some friend of the cop who wasn't there is the gospel. fuck outta here man.

CNN just reported that the broken eye-socket thing is bullshit. So hopefully that'll be the end of that.

One of the rare times that a cockroach came out from hiding on facebook because of all the recent news. Old white lady (mom's friend) whose feed kept my eyebrows sort of raised suddenly showed her true colors today.

bet she doesn't read it.

I was talking to my sister the other day about Ferguson and was just speechless at times..

LTTP but this article was great, thanks for passing it along.

I agree, but this was the first time I'd heard about the cop being injured and with how little coverage this is getting in the UK, I thought I might have missed something.

Seems I didn't and perhaps I shouldn't be all that surprised that it's probably a lie.

There was a time where I tried to carry myself "above the fray" in so many words, believing that having a good career and clean record might help alter the perception that young black men are jobless criminals who only look for handouts.

That shit was silly as fuck.

The reality is that as a black man, should you decide to TRY to just be another human being your every action is over analyzed in a Tim Tebow, Johnny Manziel-like manner. You're expected to be some shining beacon of how anyone can achieve anything (because look at you! you came from the hood!), and the moment you deviate from this narrative, you realize how lonely the world can really be. I like to think of myself as diverse and open minded. I have friends all sorts of ethnicities, yet when the Sanfords and Fergusons of the world pop up, and that becomes an issue for me, I'm on an island.

No one is comfortable acknowledging that disparity, except those of us who are subject to it. The thought of even discussing it amongst peers who never experienced it leads to awkward conversation. My GF can't really relate, she's white and was raised in a comfortable manner (to an amazingly open and loving fam I might add). The shit festers. I find myself at times becoming more distant when I go too deep into the rabbit hole and veg out on the live feed of the protests, or the GAF thread, cause all that shit brings back memories of being a youth who has been stopped and searched, or pulled over many times for no reason. Growing up and seeing your friends thrown up against walls, or cops forcing themselves into parties with 80% white people smoked out only to ask you "where's the drugs", when you've never touched a drug in your life really does something to you.

I know that's a long post but TL:DR, I never thought we were further than what we are on race relations, I just tried to forget about it until I arrived at what I always knew. You can't.

I saw a quote from Holder's remarks yesterday and thought it deserved highlighting here, too:

Good posts, would read again.

Gives insight to those unaware/unaffected by the strained relationship between black men and the police force.

So glad that some of the media is actually calling out the lies. The best thing that happened was them attacking the reporters and then doubling down on it.

No, they just know that they tested him for it and it came back negative.

They had a source confirm that, from an x-ray, there was no such injury, only what was described as "a swollen face" (and yes, it was that vague)

Ahhh, okey. That is -super- vague. That could mean a ton of things. Like Brown hit him once and ran...or he tripped and hit his face... or the car door hit him...etc

Called that, so glad the media is actually calling out the lies. The best thing that happened was them attacking the reporters and then doubling down on it.

What a fucking mistake that was. They'll be paying for it for years.

Oh boy I can't wait for the apologies to start rolling in from Fox & Co /s. Or they'll just pivot and ignore, say something like "His face was so swollen they assumed he had a broken orbital, thank god he didn't."

The msm certainly has not handled themselves appropriately throughout this, at least certain ones, from the Post Dispatch's crime reporter tweeting the 12 witnesses deal to this. truly a race to the bottom.

It's not like the eye fracture thing holds up in the first place. We have video of Wilson minutes after he killed Brown, casually talking to another officer and calmly pacing around the corpse. His face isn't all that clear, but clear enough to see there was not a lot of damage done.

Is it sad that I'm kind of *glad* in an abstract way that the cops attacked the media?

Otherwsie, I think it would've blown over pretty quickly.

I think it's telling that the situation is very abnormal. Truth be told, I'm rather happy the media isn't letting the story go or falling for any of the spin the police seem to be throwing its' way, so I guess I'm glad too.

I've never seen such combative media against a police department. Ever.

Alex Tabbarok on the economics of policing in Feguson: Ferguson and the Modern Debtor’s Prison

You don’t get $321 in fines and fees and 3 warrants per household from an about-average crime rate. You get numbers like this from bullshit arrests for jaywalking and constant “low level harassment involving traffic stops, court appearances, high fines, and the threat of jail for failure to pay.”

If you have money, for example, you can easily get a speeding ticket converted to a non-moving violation. But if you don’t have money it’s often the start of a downward spiral that is hard to pull out of:

Orbital fracture can't be detected by X-ray, needs to be imaged by CT scan, so Lemon might be conveying a lie with the truth.

comment on that right scoop site. this isn't true, is it?

Positive findings from an orbital x ray may show that there has been injury to the eye. ...Tiny fractures in the orbital bones can usually be detected on the radiograph. The floor bone, the medial wall and the ethmoid bone, which is a spongy bone that forms the upper part of the nasal cavity, are the most likely to break. In a blowout fracture (one involving the orbital floor), radiographic findings may include disruption to the orbital floor, an opaque look to the sinuses on the same side as the affected orbit (due to hemorrhage) or signs of sinus problems from the orbital root's interference. These indications can be seen in most typical orbital x ray views.

I'm going to say that lying is not a strange act from the Ferguson police.

The officer's condition while important in corroborating the officer's story, doesn't matter if it can be proven that Brown was surrendering when shot.

Didn't liberals hate Eric Holder a while back and hoped he would resign?
I know conversatives hate him. When I told my dad that the DoJ had said the robbery tape was irrelevant, the first thing he said was that Eric Holder and the DoJ was corrupt and that's why they didn't want the videos released

Corrupt how? I have no idea. But seeing Holder's statements makes me hopeful that this case will be resolved and not be swept under the rug, that there will be consequences for the cops's actions the past week. They can't go unpunished for what they did

I seem to recall some discussion in the first thread about whether he might try to argue his way out by saying that his vision was impaired so he couldn't recognize that Brown was surrendering. So proving it was not rules out that kind of ploy.
