Polytron Hacked?

Come on really? You think Fish took this massive risk hacking his account to do what? Make the internet feel sorry for him?

If the info that has been leaked is legit, that would be devastating for his career/personal life.

Anyway, this whole fiasco has reminded me of just how insecure my information is online. Brb. Gonna go delete email confirmation of fleshlight deliveries.

Yeah, I saw that image too.

I dunno. The idea that he hacked his account just makes no sense because he gains nothing. What, he makes people hate /v/? They already do? And nobody cares if he's a victim, they still think he's an asshole. There's just no upside to it.

the risk is pretty high too. confidential business deals with microsoft, sony and valve are leaked here. no-one knew what playstation plus deals pay out before now, for example. those companies have well funded legal departments.

Gamers talk so much about censorship when defending their precious video games. Yet with the way they behave regarding Zoe Quinn, Anita Sarkeesian, Samantha Allen, etc. and this particular incident is a huge performative self-contradiction, seeing how this directly results in people being afraid of voicing their opinions from now on.

This is a huge blow to free and open discourse in video game culture. I swear, these fucking sexist nerds.

Is there a GAF thread on how to be more secure?
Use 1password to generate random passwords for everything you use.
Turn on 2-factor authentication for anything you can.
And if you are super paranoid, use a unique email address for every single service you sign up for.

Yes, Phil Fish is totally wanting for exposure and game sales, and is willing to risk public humiliation and any chance of a future job at a company to get more.

Do you just regurgitate whatever shit you can greentext?

Yea, he's actually that stupid. Dumb enough to post on /v/ LEAVE HIS ACCOUNT LOGGED IN while taking a screen cap of the tweet and posting on /v/ trying to be somebody else. Know your facts before you start talking out of your ass.

I dont know about these Fish leaked it himself theory... Phil seems like the "I am going to laugh about not making Fez 2 on top of my giant pile of money" kind of guy.

Sometimes I wish we went back to medieval age punishment. Just ridiculous stuff like cutting off the hands of worst internet trolls and things like that. Just severe punishment with as much thought put into them as there's in doing stupid stuff people do on the Internet.

The worrying thing is, my definition of "sometimes" is becoming increasingly rapid. I don't think people were this stupid and cruel even five years ago, were they? Sure there were hacking incidents all the time, but the targets used to be corporations and things like that. These days all the hatred is targeted at people you slightly disagree with.

The arguments have changed, but on the whole people get better over time, not worse. Crime actually trends downward. But as a denizen of the internet since before FB/Youtube/this new shit, basically being online has always made assholes of people. It's gotten worse (or feels like it) because more people are getting online.

This sort of behaviour, as well as accusations of being an SJW and a feminist intent on destroying the gaming industry, always seems to be carried about by jaded nerds who don't know how to get a woman to speak to them.

I can hardly begin to imagine why they're not very appealing people to speak to.

I'm a fan of KeePass with unique passwords for EVERY site. It has some nice add-ons for browsers as well. Beyond that use 2-step authentication everywhere you can (Google, Microsoft, game accounts, social media accounts, etc.).

Uhm, with Cloudflare why would they need access to Cloudflare to change stuff on his site? That isn't how Cloudflare works - you don't upload stuff to Cloudflare, it sits in front of your server and manages the traffic going in and out - if you change stuff on the server itself, Cloudflare will serve whatever changes have been made.

You don't host your website 'on Cloudflare' it's a network layer service.

I believe he means that Phil was logged in on his account while trying to post anonymously about his tweet that he made.

He's referring to an incident where a screen cap of Polytron's tweet announcing the cancellation of Fez II was posted with accompanying text complaining that it's 4chan's fault it happened. The screen cap showed a "Delete" option on the tweet, which is normally only viewable if you posted the tweet, implying it was Phil who made the screen cap and thus the 4chan post.

Of course, it's 300% more likely that a 4chan anon deliberately Photoshopped that to troll than it is for Phil Fish to have made the post.

It's like these people want everything to go back to the 90s where you couldn't communicate as widely or have different voices/perspectives. Backwards goals. Sad, hypocritical fools.

i'm implying that it's incredibly easy to photoshop that image to make it look like phil posted it by taking the public tweet and adding the user elements from a random tweet you made, y'know as a fun wind-up in a community full of joking and trolling

we're talking about this yeah

Wouldn't even need Photoshop. 30 seconds using inspect element in Chrome or Firebug in Firefox and you get the same thing.

Anyway, fuck I hate the Internet sometimes.

Were these people also trying to hack nobodies as well? Because my Twitter account had a breach attempt last night...
That is most likely unrelated. Twitter accounts are getting "hacked" every day for many reasons.
Anybody that wants people to die deserves this.
No one desevers this for any reason at all, they guy was an asshole but all he did was talk. Go back to 4chan

Well, I mean I expect that as much, but I've been pretty proactive on Twitter in regards to this weeks events, so I was curious to know if there was also a more widespread random 'sweep' happening to anyone that's an indie dev. I very much doubt I'm of any concern/threat to these people though lol

I haven't heard any reports from anyone, and I don't think twitter was even targeted at all. Phil Fish still posted on his account normally after the site was hacked.

I just picked through the zip, and man, there's some super interesting stuff in there.

This does suck though, no matter how you feel about the man, this is really uncalled for. I don't blame him for quitting, but nor do I have sympathy for him. Spreading vitriol online, only attracts vitriol in return.

I think he did it to show how much money he made, in order to sell Fez and his company.

I got one of those emails from Twitter security saying someone tried to access your account from an unknown device/location. So I was a wee bit concerned this was turning into something ridiculous.

Oh shit. Time to buff GAF's defenses!

This whole debacle is beyond pathetic. Years down the line we'll remember these dark times and cringe.

Nice victim blaming.

He already stated previously how he wants to take the money and leave, could be that this incident is a great excuse for him to leave the gaming industry once and for all. Or could be that he's genuinely disgusted by what that happen to Zoe Quinn and wants to make a statement. You can't say that Fish has proven himself to be a guy who gives much damn about future consequences.

Either way I find it a bit hard to believe some hack can net you so much information about Phil Fish/Polytron.

I've been getting multiple of those emails the last couple of days. Pretty much ever since following Phil on Twitter.

I highly doubt they are related.

Phil Fish's crime is saying some shitty stuff on Twitter. This is hardly an eye-for-an-eye exchange here.

Can we stop with this though, I've seen it a lot lately, blaming everyone in the collective for the actions of a loud minority group. I consider myself a 'gamer' (although I'm not a fan of the word) and to an extent I am nerdy about some of my interests. I imagine you consider yourself to be too. I don't associate myself with any of these individuals so can I not to be lumped into their malicious actions? I welcome diversity in the community and the types of games we play, this group does not represent me or my interests as a gamer or a nerd.

Can we get over using 'gamer' and 'nerd' as a pejorative when someone who is interested in games also acts like an asshole, you can be one or the other or both but just because you are one doesn't necessarily mean you are automatically the other, thanks.
