Chrom, heh.

I feel like the "does not deserve to be in Smash Bros." train left the station with Jigglypuff in 64.

Back then Jigglypuff was a main reoccurring character in the pokemon anime, was at the top of popularity polls, and was even featured on the kraft macaroni and cheese box. I never questioned her inclusion back then.

I like Duckhunt Dog because one of the things I like about Smash is how they take characters that aren't combat-capable and make a fighter out of them.

Yeah, out of all the characters in the leak, I'm most pumped for DHD. But why the hell would anyone make Dark Pit a full character over, say, Dark Samus...? bleh. Bowser Jr. in a kart is cool, but I'd rather have anyone other than one more Mario character. They almost take up the whole top row.

EDIT: Oh and I'm psyched Jiggly might be returning. Even though she won't be near Melee tier :(

The notion of him attacking by sending ducks out or something sounds really good.

Plus, he will have the best goddamn taunt of all time.

There's also the idea that they could have him play similar to another character that used a bird for most of his moves...

I mean

Is this about popularity or your own personal feelings?

Because Duck Hunt is not a small game, especially within Nintendo history.

Of course Hatsune Miki, if my eyes aren't playing tricks on me, would explode in Japan but at least the majority of the audience who is going to buy Smash 4 ain't gonna know what anime is to that extent.

Plus, I really hope they bring in K. Rool and Ridely... Was K. Rool in the leak?

Keep hope alive!
lol

Yeah I don't think they'll do anything like people expect, and I don't think DLC is that limitless. Sakurai won't suddenly abandon his criteria for decent characters just because he has spare time on his hands.

3 maybe 4 more characters (maybe, if we're lucky). And some stages. And it'll only last through part of 2015.
Updates and patches will probably continue though.

Lets not at all compare Banjo and Kazooie to some dog and a random duck

Isn't it a game only relevant in the US and nowhere else as this is the only place it was bundled with Mario Bros? Besides we already have ROB as our token "he was part of the reason the NES got into stores" why do we need another character to fit the same mold?

Even if it was just an afterthought, people will always gripe that it was a slot that potentially a real newcomer could have had.

The main argument for Dark Pit is his personality and charm, and while i agree that i liked him a lot in KI:U, most of that wont transfer over to a fighting game. I rather have a color swap of him and a clone of another character who doesn't look nearly identical to a veteran.

The great thing about making Dark Pit go from a palette swap to a playable character is that it takes barely any more work for it to happen. I can argue that Dark Pit requires even less effort than Lucina. Let's go over what needs to be changed in order for the Dark Pit palette swap to be a suitable character on the roster.

Voice/Dialogue change: This is even easier than Lucina since you don't need to get different actor/actress. Both Pits are voiced by the same guy (Or girl in Japanese). Also making the annoucer say "Dark Pit" shouldn't be too hard right?

Model changes: Almost nothing needs to be changed since he literally is a palette swap in terms of design. Unlike Lucina who requires more work to differentiate from Marth.

Gamplay tweaks: This obviously depends on Sakurai and his team since I don't know how much work they put into making him different from Pit. However, if all you need to is a slight difference in abilities than it requires little effort. They could literally just change the power of his neutrals and he would be suitable for a spot on the roster according to Sakurai's POTD

Moveset that fits the character: Well since Dark Pit is literally a clone of Pit, there is absolutely no issue with him being an exact clone since it matches with the source material. You could differentiate him in many ways, but it is not necessary.

What's so great about Dark Pit and Lucina is that it allows Sakurai and his team to expand the roster further without having to put the effort a normal character would acquire. So basically, we get more characters, more fans happy, and more variety in the roster with little effort! That's why I'm totally behind characters like that.

It should be clarified that this is a monthly character popularity poll conducted by Nintendo Dream, which has nothing to do with Smash Bros, and this one seems to be from May 2012. Being so soon after the release of KI:U would explain why it's so dominant on there, not to understate its actual popularity, though.

If the leak is real, I'll be really excited to see Duck Hunt and Bowser Jr. in action.

Duck Hunt — The design looks AMAZING. Like, "holy shit, make a new game" amazing. And I like how happy the dog and duck look together. I'm a huge animal lover (and vegetarian), so I never particularly liked the idea of shooting ducks. (Yes, I say that without a hint of irony as I link together kill streaks in Bullestorm!) But I'm wondering if Sakurai will retcon the nature of Duck Hunt so that the player wasn't really killing ducks, but... stunning them, or something. At any rate, from a mechanical standpoint, the concept is enticing because the dog and duck will surely work together in some way. How remains to be seen. Super-pumped for this character, if real.

Bowser Jr. — I never liked the idea of Bowser Jr. by himself, but then I never thought of him piloting the Clown Car. That alone makes the idea really, really interesting. He could become Smash's MODOK! The changing expressions on the Clown Car, the extend-o-arms, the wealth of projectiles (Bullet Bills, Bob-ombs, Mecha Koopas, Big Steelies)... There's a lot of potential here. And if it's true that you can use any of the seven Koopalings as alts, well, it's like a dream-come-true character for me.

I don't really understand why we need most new characters, then.

Duck Hunt was available and popular outside of the US.

Pretty much agree with all this, particularly the Bowser Jr. part. Never thought of him much either way, but adding the Koopa Car really makes him interesting for me.

At least America wanted actual video game characters

Excluding the apparently large portion of us who wanted Goku and Naruto or some junk. WTF is it that makes people think anime characters should be in Smash

Goku has been in a ton of games...so there.

Every time Dark Pit discussion comes around, my mind goes back to this pic.

God damn it, we know Dark Pit and Game and Watch are in the game. Who else can we say has a high likelihood of being in the game? I'd say Ganon is in since there are no villians on The Legend of Zelda's end.

Kids just bein' kids I'm sure.

Something kinda interesting about Kid Icarus Uprising... You know the Space Pirates? They were an obvious Metroid reference, but it goes a bit further than you'd expect. Instead of going with the traditional lobster claws, the Kid Icarus Space Pirates look like Metroid Prime's monsters, with the same shoulder rings, hunch-back, and two-toed feet. They're almost like chibi Space Pirates.

Oh yeah! I remember this!

Even though Sakurai seemed to be like "Hey, just cause I post this doesn't mean it's a direct reference to Smash Bros", I always had the feeling Dark Pit could be in.

Dark Pit could work, his signature weapon isn't the Palutena bow, but is actually the Dark staff. Make him have Pit's Brawl recovery and have the staff be his main weapon of choice and bam! Slightly different Pit character.

Miku is a mascot for computer software, later it would have popular merchandise which included Nendoroids, which in turn led to a series of game being based of these range of products which itself is a spinoff of another range of games based on the character.

Basically, It's not anime.

He meant unrecognized as in "Not represented in a previous Smash game." Miis were not in Brawl in any capacity.
Fair enough.

Nah his signature weapon is the Silver Bow which is a prototype of the Palutena Bow. It makes more sense for him to use that. Though I could see the Dark Pit staff being a new side B or something.
