Outside of Korra saving Asami (after Asami saved her first), did Korra save other people throughout the season? Or least constantly? I actually thought overall, this season put more emphasis on the side characters (at least from an action sense, not necessarily an emotional/growth sense). But I feel like the side characters were used a lot more w/ the action, and there were even times in the season where I felt Korra kind of drifted to the back (especially in the middle).
Korra didn't severe the ties with the past Avatar, the evil spirit did it when it pulled the light spirit out of Korra and then attempted to kill it once withdrawn from Korra
Yeah, Zaheer was both the first true aggressive air bender, as well as someone that was very tactical and knew when to flee the fight when he couldn't take someone head on (on a technical level). He was also very good at using his air bending defensively, as he was good at avoiding attacks (if he couldn't land them himself).
I also think it should be emphasized that just because Tenzin or Korra are better air benders than Zaheer, neither of them have ever fought another air bender before (fighting against your own element is different then bending it), let alone someone that uses an aggressive style to it. I don't think Zaheer was too far fetched. I think the creators went out of their way to show Zaheer actually stumbling and fumbling around (to show that he wasn't technically a master of the element).
I dunno. I guess you could make the argument that had Korra taken on Zaheer prior to the hostage situation, she should have been able to take him down. Just because she's a master of the 4 elements and still has the Avatar state, even if it doesn't have the past lives attached to it (it obviously is still a booster). But Korra never had a chance to fight Zaheer one on one?
I guess in Metal bending city. But again, Zaheer + his group were very tactical about how they fought (and she was knocked out from the sedative, so she couldn't actually fight). I think the reason Zaheer was such a cool villain, was because of how tactical and relentless he was. He was always thinking two steps ahead.
Yeah, I really like that shot too. It looks very reminiscent of the airbending move Aang used on Ozai directly after reawakening the avatar state (the circular movement of the arm behind the head is exactly the same).
There were a lot of callbacks to The Crossroads of Destiny in this finale (S2E20), my pick for best episode of the original show. It earned them. I was gripped the whole way through. Excellent animation and music, and a real sense of meaning in the battles and decisions. Some quick thinking and creativity too (Mako jumping up onto the rocks then using lightning just when spider-like Ming Hua was sure she had him in her web was an especially great twist).
Did Korra use the avatar state in other fights this season? She was forced to by her body in the finale, but I can't remember if she used it against other fights against Zaheer and crew in previous episodes.
I would say much of the style/tone of this season very much felt like Book 2 of ATLA. Not even just the background setting, but just the episodes themselves often had the same kind of pacing/tone.

She did not. I think this was actually the first time she's been in the Avatar state since Book 2's finale. Unless I'm wrong. I don't think I remember her eyes glowing in the beginning of Book 3. I'm fairly certain she didn't use it in any fights in Book 3, but I can't remember all of the first episode.
Edit: her eyes glowed when she tried to soothe the vine spirits in the first episode.

Yeah she went into the avatar state to try get rid of the spirit vines in Republic City in the first episode but apart from that I can't remember her using it in any battle scenarios. Korra hasn't really been in a lot of fights this Book till the end.

I kind of expect Toph in Book 4. Would be surprised if they resisted the temptation of a cameo before the series is over. I think unlike Zuko, there is more they could do with her charcter now that they've set up the backstory with Su and Lin. I mean the emotional pay off of Lin and Toph making up is worth seeing IMO.

Shoot I thought I remembered them glowing eyes in the first episode. I guess the question then is why didn't she use the Avatar state while in fights. Well IMO she was never in a fight where she could use it. Zaheer sedated her in Metal City so she couldn't fight. And during the hostage situation she couldn't fight Zaheer.
I guess after she was in cuffs and they realized it was a trap she could have went into it. So I can see why some might be disappointed in Korra in this aspect. I mean if she went into Avatar state here she probably could have taken on Zaheer and broken from her chains.
Yeah hopefully they use him a bit better for Book 4 and this better happen now that he knows about Iroh.
Would be nice to see more of Zuko and his family, but then again I really just want to see what the Fire nation looks like now.
I don't see why someone's legacy can't also be a part of their legend.
I can understand though why that might make you uncomfortable because it's something different. I, for one, grow tired of the "we're back again at 100% and ready for the next big threat" stories and would like to see the hero get set aside in order for someone else to take their place.
Pretty much. Even if an Avatar was to have an entire life where nothing terrible happened in their time, their lack of action could have caused the next Avatar a lot of trouble (ie. how Roku didn't deal with Ozai when he should have). So I think it's impossible for an Avatar to ever get everything 100% right. There is always something that they could have done to make things better.

Ugh, so much talk of Korra being weak. Go back and look at the people Aang had to fought, they were all MUCH weaker than anyone Korra has fought with the exception of Ozai.
Korra is a much more technical fighter than Aang is, is undoubtedly much stronger physically, and has better control over the elements. The only advantage Aang has was his closer spiritual connection which made his Avatar state super overpowered.
Do you guys honestly think Aang could have done ANYTHING to Amon? He would have absolutely wrecked him. Aang would have probably resorted to running away everytime if he was around

I'll never understand why people continue to keeping latching onto that circus picture as evidence. The guy may vaguely look familiar to Zaheer but he's a giant compared to how tall the real zaheer is. Unless he magically shrunk in prison to hide his circus past.
Up till episode 5, The Spirit of Competition, I was sure The Legend of Korra was going to be the more mature, thematically resonant, greater sequel to the original. A real coming of age for long-form western animation. It didn't get there, but it doesn't deserve to be tarnished completely by the worst parts of season 2. Episode 6 of Season 1 (the stadium attack) is well worth going back to.
Yeah, i really had high expectations for Book 1, at the end i thought one half was very good and the other was bad, with the worst being the final three episodes, but oh well, i stuck with it because i enjoy the Avatar world.
Also, im surprised there is not some kind of drawback for using the Avatar state, it just seems too overpowered, maybe that could explain why Korra does not always use it.
I don't know about you guys, but I think Korra is pretty awesome (especially given she had poison in her). Yeah, I had my issues with the character in Book 1 and 2. And yeah, the way the writing was done, she was pretty fatiguing (especially since he failures were almost always her fault and she often took 2 steps backwards). But I actually liked her a lot in Book 3. And I think she's technically a great fighter.
So I personally thought she was great in Book 3, and hope she finishes out strong in Book 4.

I also liked the fact that the Red Lotus got totally overwhelmed by Korra. Yeah, your plan to kill the Avatar in the Avatar State is really threatening and can be really effective, BUT YOU STILL HAVE TO KILL HER IN THE AVATAR STATE. Did you think that was gonna be a fun time? LOL
So I assume Katara hasn't tried magic water healing on Korra yet? Or whats her face, the daughter of Katara?
Curious what the next season is gonna be like. Last season set up the whole "change" thing. The end of this one didn't set up anything... I guess other than Ba Sing Se being in shambles, the air benders being traveling do gooders, and Korra being too weak in her current state.
Surely it can't all be keeping the peace in Ba Sing Se

Well, going by the cycle, the next season should take place mostly in the Fire Nation.
I assume that all the Earth Kingdom/Airbender stuff will play backup to that story.
What I want:
I think despite all that they did, the writers engendered a fair amount of sympathy for the villains. It would be FANTASTIC if we delved into their backstory a bit. This can happen as the Krew fight of the remnants of the Red Lotus.
Should probably dovetail into Korra finding a renewed purpose and reconnecting with the past Avatars.
Her hallucinations at the end of the finale give me hope that at the very least the writers intend to tie all 4 seasons together.
While I am at it, other things I want:
-Mako getting a girlfriend outside the group
-Jinora actually kicking ass
-Airbenders established in their new roles
-Toph, Katara, Zuko kicking ass together
-The Gaang kicking ass in a flashback
-Su and Lin's respective fathers
-More Zaheer.
-More Korra talking to Zaheer
-More consistently creative bending from Korra
-Asami kicking more ass
-No more Iroh.
-More Iroh.
-More Bumi being awesome
-Korra and Asami. Look, the balls on the writers have been getting progressively larger. I can see them do this. Subtly.
Realisticcally? They will stick her with Mako again. Ugh.
I imagine a last ride of the Gaang, with Katara, Zuko and Toph rallying a last time, happily dying while archiving an important objective and then being greeted by Zokka, Aang and other family members in the after life or whatever comes after people die. I doubt that people usually do what Iroh did.
The moment when Korra was hallucinating (along with being in extreme pain) was executed brilliantly, especially with the close-ups of her distraught face. Solid stuff, if I do say so myself.
Wondering what they will do with the fire nation next season. In ATLA they were the most tech savvy nation so I wonder how developed they are this time
Well they did say the Red Lotus had more members than anticipated.
They could just add in some other arbitrary force of evil.
Also.... was anyone else feeling the writers were subtly going for a bit of an Asami Korra love arc?
Realistically, its probably just two girl friends being good girl friends but.... would be ballsy to do. But the love triangle in the avatar team is tiresome. Bolin needs some love first anyway.
