Rumour: Next Google Nexus Phone Called Nexus X; 5.9" 1440p screen, 13MP, 2.7 GHz, OCT

Something tells me the ludicrous size is spurred by Apple releasing a 5.5" iPhone rather than what would naturally have followed otherwise. This could also eliminate what was the Nexus line's greatest feature, its bargain price compared to its overpriced competitors.

The Nexus X will be based on the Moto S, meaning it will feature a 5.9-inch with a 2K resolution (1440x2560), a Snapdragon 805 clocked at 2.7GHz, a 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization, and a 2.1-megapixel front camera.

In terms of the release plans, we're being told that Google is planning a secret launch just like last year. The Nexus X will be released on or around Halloween without an announcement.

Many outlets, including us, have been using the name Nexus 6 because this is the 6th Nexus device, and because it is going to have a 5.9-inch display. But, regardless of how much sense it makes, Google will not be using that name because of trademark issues. Google already had some troubles with the family of author Philip K. Dick threatening a lawsuit because of the use of the name Nexus.

5'9" is far too big.

Nexus 5 was perfect at a 5" display. Anything bigger is too big IMO.

I'm sure there will be a smaller sized model if Apple is releasing one. I can see that model becoming the norm.

I'll stick to 4.7" screens and under. No thank you.

Edit:
A $400 phone is going to have a higher screen resolution than most laptops, computer monitors, and televisions? :(

I'm imagining my Nexus 5 being a full inch bigger and it's making my hands hurt just thinking about it.

And I'm a former Galaxy Note 2 owner.

First of all, you throwing too many big numbers at me. Since I don't understand what they mean, I'm gonna take it as a sign of disrespect

I have a feeling that companies are going to come to the realization that no matter how good the product gets, over saturation is going to happen and people will just settle for using the same phone they have been using for years if they keep getting updates. I hope to god apple still supports the 5s for years to come (I don't want to buy another 5' phone ever again).

I really rolled my eyes when people started the "derp derp looks like yer holdin' a tablet!!" stuff when the 5" Android phones were coming out, but 6" is starting to push it. =/

Still not sure how I'd feel about having a phone not much smaller than my N7. I guess it's a good way to merge tablets and phones into one device, though.

Whatever screen size my Moto G phone has is good enough for me. I can just work everything with one hand while I am cycling or whatever so that's fine. Any bigger and I wouldn't like it..

This screen size war bollocks is irritating as fuck. Stick to five inches and give me a battery that can last at least a day. N5 battery is pants.

Benchmarks showed up of this using a 5.2 in screen. They won't go 5.9 or if they do I'd assume it would be the size of a Note 3 or less.

The Nexus 5 is pretty much as big as I'd ever want a phone. If they do indeed go bigger than I'm not interested, not that I'm likely to buy a new phone before the next refresh cycle anyways.

Really all they needed to do to the Nexus 5 was give it a spec bump and improve the battery. The phone is great outside of that.

Shame this hadn't come out sooner. Just bought my Nexus 5 in May. I would have liked to compare this. I have giant hands so I think 5.9 is an easier to manage proposistion for me, than most. Oh well, I probably be in the market for a new phone for at least another year. With the specs on this thing, I can't imagine that it will fall into the same price point as the Nexus 5, either.

wtf, I was slowly warming to the idea of a 5.5" phone after seeing my buddy's OnePlusOne but god damnit 5.9" is just absurd...god the battery life for a phone with a screen that big at 2k must be shit (my nexus 5 has shit battery life too)

Fuck, too big. I'll just stick with the rumored Moto x2. The moto x is the perfect size and the x2 looks like it'll be a tad bigger which is fine.

Yeah. I'm not sure why people gravitate towards the highest end of specs for smartphones. Phones that offer more usability and features such as the Moto X are much more welcome IMO.

Edit:
What sucks the most is that even though I got the Nexus 5 and am super happy with it, I was already planning on on replacing it with the successor to the perfect sized Moto X, but it seems they too have increased the next model to over 5".

I miss my Galaxy Nexus :(

I think the only reason the Moto X successor is going for a larger screen is because people kept going for a Nexus 5 or other phones with larger screens or higher specs. I favor the form factor and OS usability enhancements of the Moto line over the specs.

Why haven't phone manufacturers realized yet that 5" is the perfect size? Xperia Z was beautiful at 5", Nexus 5 was beautiful at 5". Big enough for those who want big phones, small enough for people who don't want big phones.

Anything bigger is just cumbersome and unnecessary.

Any chance of a smaller size down the road? I'll probably just get a Nexus 5 since the battery life and camera really doesn't bother me. I'll wait a few years then upgrade from there.

I liked Samsung Note 3, it's only 0.2" smaller than supposed Nexus X.

But it looks too good to be true. Or the price will be higher than expected.
