Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

Wow, that's a disappointing music update, just last night I was thinking to myself "damn do I need Victory in the Dream World in SSB, failing that Try, Try Again would also be acceptable".
And here it is! except it sounds kinda bad, Green Greens ain't sounding too hot either but that one has years upon years of remixes to face up against.
Maybe they'll grow on me.

Green Greens is also arranged by Hamauzu which means it is automatically bad and sounds bad too.

And they need to Try, Try Again to make that Mario and Luigi battle theme not suck. The original version is much better.

Green Greens does sound like it's about to dramatically change just before it fades out so the full piece could be much better.

I'd say my disappoint with the M&L piece, since I haven't played Dream Team Bros and thus have no real affinity with the tune, is that it's arranged by the original composer. In some ways I'd like to see composers tackle music from other games to hear their take on it.

Of course my big concern is for pool old Koji. If he gets lumped with the Super Mario Bros theme again I'll weep for him.

I really hope we can choose a music track for any stage because if a music track sucks on a stage you like and you are locked into it, that will be mega lame.

Seems like 3DS is music locked to 2 per stage though.

Step it up Sakurai. Tecmo Koei let's me choose the music for any level. Come on now.

Not happening, sorry.
Our best luck is a much better stage builder since you can choose any music for it.

Well in brawl there were 3-7 tracks per level that you could adjust the frequency of hearing or toggle each off altogether. I found that there was usually at least 1-2 tracks I dug enough to keep them selected. Hopefully the same holds true for Sm4sh.

Didn't help the Golden Sun track was locked to fucking Norfair. Who wants to play on Norfair?

Not the same as a real stage though. Even if closed box spike stages are fun for stamina matches.

Speculation which was right though. By this point them going 'Pokemon Teken!' Just made me go like 'uh, yeah, duh'. Honestly, It would've only been a surprise if the announcement was 'Pokken is not Pokemon Teken'

Well thank the stars it was, otherwise we'd have to figure out that you jinxed it!

How many challenges were in Brawl? 35 seems like such a low number, especially after Sakurai hinted that they aren't too difficult. EVENT MODE BETTER MAKE UP FOR THIS.

The new music sounds great, but we peaked at Bath Time.

I think there are few pages for challenges like KI:U with three pages.

Yo, I'm loving this Green Greens remix. The Kirby games are usually really conservative with the song (I think Epic Yarn is the only one that's really attempted to change it up a bit, but even then it was mostly with the instrumentation) so it's nice to hear a fresh take on it for once.

There doesn't even seem to be any stage builder at all for the 3ds at this point. I think it'd show up in the ESRB video, considering how you could arrange the blocks in vaguely suggestive shapes or whatever.

Pretty good PotD, but there's no way I believe there's only 35 challenges total in the whole game. That just can't be, especially after how many Brawl and especially Kid Icarus: Uprising had. There's gotta be more to that panel of 35 that we're just not seeing yet. Maybe it's multiple panels of 35, with each panel having a different "theme" in terms of how to complete its challenges (i.e. one is based around regular fighting, one is based around extra modes like Target Blast, etc.)?

As for the music update... man, I hate to say it, but I'm really not feeling either song. The Green Greens arrangement is too low-key and experimental for me (and I usually like Hamauzu) and, though I usually feel that Shimomura can do absolutely no wrong, I... think I would have just rather had the original "Try, Try Again" than this rearrangement, which sounds like it's trying to be different just for the sake of being different without regard for how good it actually sounds.

The bigger question is, where will these songs play? The leaked stage list, if real, didn't have a Kirby stage at all beyond possibly the Game Boy one, which might just be a retro-themed Kirby's Dream Land stage, but the Green Greens rearrangement seems like it'd be an odd fit for that. Meanwhile, I imagine the Try, Try Again rearrangement might be one of the selections for the Paper Mario stage...? Hmm. Maybe the Green Greens rearrangement will just be one of the songs available for play in Smash Run...

Hey Ash, please tell me my hero André is prepping a video discussion with him celebrating the MK8 DLC news

Haha yep, he sure is (or did already)! Unfortunately I wasn't able to join in on that discussion because of schedule conflicts, but rest assured I'm VERY EXCITED about it as well... except for the whole Kirby-in-a-Warp-Star-not-being-the-first-non-Mario-character-available thing. But hey, I'll take Link... I guess. (I'm excited, I promise.)

My counter is that they would have shown the mode otherwise, instead we got a lock screen.

I don't see why that's necessarily the case at all. Believe me, I want there to be more characters (or at least Chorus Kids + the possibly cut characters), but I have to admit that there's currently no compelling reason to believe that the roster we've seen isn't the final one, and the All-Star Mode lock thing doesn't REALLY hold up when you consider that it doesn't necessarily have to be tied to the roster we've seen. The only way the two are related is if they both come from the same ESRB video that all these leaked pics and videos came from, but even the idea of it all coming from an ESRB submission video has been thrown into serious doubt (as far as I'm aware). I guess I just feel like it's just as likely that the All-Star lock and the leaked roster aren't connected as it is that they are.

So, to date, I'm only feeling four of the seven songs posted on the site so far: Full Speed Ahead, Battle! (Trainer Battle), Multi-Man Smash, and Bath Time Theme. Hopefully that ratio changes quickly!

I agree that both new music are kinda disappointing.
I finished M&L 4 2 times and I can hardly recognize that song (only the first 10 seconds and 0:24-0:35)
Green greens sounds out of place, it's like a rollercoaster, epic/grandiose switch to relaxed, then grandiose again.
I dunno if what I'm saying makes sense :lol

I can't even remember what I thought about Space Jam. As a Brit I wasn't really into Michael Jordan or basketball so that whole element was lost. Having seen it in the cinema my parents were with me so I'm sure they were bored as well.

Anyway....

Pic of the day. A panel in the Challenges area will unlock everytime you clear a challenge. When you unlock a panel, you'll see hints for unlocking panels directly adjacent to it on all sides. And this time, each panel will unlock pictures related to the challenge. This is tougher than it looks, you know? The challenges in the 3DS version are a little on the easy side, but the Wii U version challenges might be a bit trickier.
Wii U is the hardcore version.

I really like Green Greens (it's by the FF13 composer) but I'm rather disappointed with Try, Try Again, especially considered Yoko composed it and arranged it. She got rid of everything that made the track great in the original and it made it faster.

It's a subtle hint that the stage screen we saw is incomplete...

Apparently this is from the video leaker:

Wolf is in according to this. Some spoilers? I guess?

I don't know if true or fake but take with a grain of salt. My friend found the image on Reddit from the same guy who leaked the vids.

I'll believe it when I see it, but I was still having hopes.

Mmm I guess Ice Climber (just the one) is better than no Ice Climbers at all, but that really kills the gimmick for them and makes the character much less interesting. It's true that the original game actually had just one character, but Ice Climbers are basically Smash Bros. characters before being Ice Climber characters LOL. If it's true it's all 3DS' fault. We'll see.

The worst part, aside from removing a large part of the characters' uniqueness, is that there'd likely be no Nana amiibo.

I dunno are we sure we're getting only the male Robin Amiibo? Maybe it's something like that, and the official render will exists for both versions (and so possibly the Amiibos).

This gets less heartwarming when you realize that even if they do both get into Smash, they'll just end up beating the shit out of each other.

That's fine. They would get slapped by the Demon King Ganondorf or roasted by Bowser the Koopa King anyway so it's all good.

Yeah, kind of have to agree regarding Green Greens Ver 2... it's just not a good take on that track. Try, Try Again I actually do like, but again it's not quite as good as the original, so it's a little disappointing anyway.

edit: Upon listening to GGV2 again, I actually like the last 10 seconds or so of the sample, so if the rest of the full track continues along those lines I think it'll be OK.

What's the excuse behind the lack of Ice Climbers or having the usual double unit for the Wii U version?

Sakurai wants the roster to be the same in both versions because he doesn't want to have favorites.
I bet my balls WiiU version will be the only one getting the cool DLCs.
WiiU > 3DS all the way
