Sony Pre-TGS 2014 SCEJA Conference - Wait we're in Japan? [Over]

I think trailers for MGSV, Yakuza 0, Bloodborne, etc are a given at this point. They're also not likely to be particularly exciting for most people for various reasons. I don't expect a release date for MGSV for example.

You think so? normally Kojima likes to tease his new trailers on twitter...nothing so far. But then again the cardboard box video at the gamescom sony press conference came out of nowhere so hopefully you're right.

SCEJ has a lot of potential if they act on it. I don't mean stuff which have been rumored or whatever, just that they have a history of having interesting IPs and projects which could make a good impact on fans now if they act on it like they used to. Gran Turismo, Hot Shots Golf, Ico, Wild Arms, Dark Cloud, White Knight Chronicles, Siren, Gravity Rush, Puppeteer, Arc the Lad, Ape Escape, PaRappa, the list goes on. Yet the modern SCEJ is a husk of unproductivity. Sad.

I don't know if I would agree with that on absolution, given that their focus has been on the Vita entirely this past year or so.

Besides, it's weird to list out the games the way you did, given half the games aren't even in the same generation. WKC, GR and Puppeteer are 3 games that do not sit side-by-side with Arc, Siren, Ape Escape, etc, because the former games are games that came out of SCEJ as they 'gave up' on IPs like Siren, etc.

SCEJ has been 'unproductive' in the last year or so on projects like Freedom Wars, Oreshika and SoulSac. It's about time for their next cycle, really, so we'll see what they're cooking up.

Man reading threw thread really get me depressed :(
I know the days of playing Japanese games almost gone for me .
Right now i would just be happy with some jrpgs even if they low budget .

Oh they did? If they did say that then Disgaea 5 will probably be there, yeah.

SCEJ is creative but unfortunately not productive :/

They have over 400 people working there. I think thats big enough to have 4 notable projects going on at the same time.....if they are efficient.

One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 probably going to be shown?

If true,

boooo, don't waste time on that.

I just feel like since the core gaming landscape of Japan diminishes yearly, we should be lowering our expectations each year. Last year's TGS was a joke, and so this will probably be a bigger joke.

I was thinking Pirate Warriors 3 would get revealed. It'll probably launch early next year so I hope it doesn't take too long to get localized.

Do they not? They've released Soul Sacrifice Delta, Freedom Wars, and Destiny of Spirits in 2014 so far. We know they're working on Gravity Rush 2, TLG, Deep Down, and Bloodborne. That's more than 4 projects by my count.

SS was Marvelous and Comcept
Freedom Wars was Shift and Dimps
Deep Down is being developed by Capcom (SCEJ helped with the engine iirc)
Bloodborne is being developed by From overlooked by some SCEJ staff.

We're left with TLG and Gravity Rush 2. Those two projects are not big enough to consumer 400+ devs.

Furthermore Hot Shots and Gran Turismo aren't developed by SCEJ either (Clap Hanz and Polyphony Digital)

They are cooking something over there, hopefully we find out soon.

Hopefully working with Millennium Kitchen on the next Boku no Natsuyasumi.

Maybe they're making Legend of Dragoon 2?

They're not making Legend of Dragoon 2.

Lvl 5! Lvl 5! Mutha fudging Lvl 5!

A sequel to Ni No Kuni wit mutha fudging multi PVP player for the PS4! Would have me waking up my baby because I would be yelling so loud!

Persona and any other JRPG would make me tear up in niche joy.

Yeah, I wish they would :(

I dont believe a new trailer is coming so soon after e3, i believe in a new trailer for the vga awards with the release date or at least a Q1!!:D:D

The lower my expectations get, the chance of being disappointed will not be that high. Although it may be the other way round where if this tgs is a mega hit, it will bring in great great relive.

I still think it's crazy that we haven't seen ANYTHING about Persona 5 when it's supposedly shipping in Japan this year.

For the love of all things good. Just give me a Rogue Galaxy 2. Then Ni no Kuni 2

Yeah, most definitely. Koei Temco might have other titles to announce too, like Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War & Nightmare which was revealed previously but no mention of platform(s).

Maybe Ni-Oh will make an appearance as well?

Koei has said that they're working on a large scale Toukiden title. I'd love to see a PS4 entry. It's actually quite strange that there aren't really any hunter-style titles on consoles anymore.

Winter 2014....which includes Jan and Feb 2015 (going by the uk seasons). Catherine said the same thing and was released in feb the next year.

No way is Persona 5 coming out this year in Japan.

I just want a new Ni no Kuni for PS4 please Level-5/Namco do it

My mind can't even begin to comprehend how picturesque and gawp-inducing a Ni no Kuni 2 would look on the PS4. I think there's a real chance of a sequel happening, but if it's ever going to be announced then I have the feeling Sony and Namco would debut it at E3. Would be a pretty big deal internationally when all is said and done.

Even February seems like it's too soon given how little we've seen, to be honest. It's kinda weird.

If at least 400 devs aren't working on TLG then they're doing it wrong.

When I previously said that there's not going to be anything, I didn't mean just games that are "gamechangers" in the west (this is just a damn fact that nobody even needs to be told). There isn't going to be anything that even appeals to the Japanese market. That's just how it is now.

It's also been a decent amount of time since they've said anything about P4D. That's going to have to popup again soon since that is supposed to release this year.

one piece ?

yakuza ?

Ok let's not get carried away now. I understand being jaded about the JP gaming market but this is just hyperbole

The problem isn't that there isn't anything that appeals to Japan, the problem is that the games that do are all cross gen, and thus there is little to no incentive to buy the PS4. If the whole goal of this conference was to convince the Japanese audience to buy a PS4 then its not looking too good.

Me too. But Ghibli :(

Afaik Ghibli is restructuring and trying to understand how they can continue to stay in the business of feature films without Miyazaki but collaborations are an other matter. They would be basically hired and getting paid for a service, they would not bet the farm on a movie being successful and recouping costs after many years in production.
So I'd not rule out video games collaborations, actually it seems a good way for them to survive, doing commission jobs through collaborations.

Btw I think that the show will feature Persona 5, Gravity Rush 2, Yakuza Zero, Disgaea 5 and Ys8 as the key titles.
I'm hoping for surprises though, new trailers for FFXV/KH3, a FFXII HD announcement...something like that :D
