Ok, I get it, but the plot porn I think still is a problem, regardless of her misrepresentation, and the reliance on sexy or controversial sexy that is used regularly in "gritty"/"realistic" games is obnoxious. If you want video games that dont do this, yes it is easy to find games that dont do this; however, if you are into "realistic" like games, it's really hard to find games without there being stupid plot porn in them.

It's hard to read either the tweets she received or read the "Kickstarter campaign and subsequent harassment" part of her Wikipedia article and not lose faith in humanity. It's mind-boggling for several reason: I can't fathom how anyone can seriously doubt that videogame sexism exists, but even assuming you do, what the fuck compels a person (lots of people actually) to behave as utter inhuman waste? At what point one thinks "I disagree with this person, so I'm going to threaten her with rape and murder"?

Usually I see people reacting about their games being "censored," because they're finally having to come to terms with the knowledge that not almost every game will continue to cater exclusively to them for the rest of their life. I think it's exactly that, that the truth is being pointed out. Sure many people disagree with some of the stuff she's said but regardless she raises important questions that people don't want to answer, and their all about the misrepresentation of women in gaming. With access to the internet and so anonymity, people can become some really terrible monsters. I hope she doesn't have to deal with any more death threats and the like, it's so fucking stupid.

Every region needs to adopt a zero tolerance policy on online threats. I don't care if the threat was "just a joke". If the source can be tracked down, there's no reason not to press charges. Earlier this year, there was a story about a UK couple getting charged for online twitter abuse. Again, this needs to be the standard policy everywhere.

It gets kind of meta because GAF is part of the video game community, and that's the community that has a section that is just being absolutely vile. So it's sort of sobering confirmation that yes, the gaming community is still that bad, when people in the relatively civilly moderated GAF community out themselves as not thinking it's a big deal.

I worked for a lot of Mobile and Internet companies and I never saw someone threat someone to death. Did you? Or maybe it's only in the gaming industry?
Sure it's not perfect and by not perfect I mean that women are not treated equally (mostly having more difficulties in their carrier) but they are not threaten to death and I've never seen someone insulting a woman just because she was a woman.
But France is not the subject here I think even if I brought this comparison here (sorry for that).
The subject imo is to what degree some people are shocked by the threats she had.

You have someone making calm and argument-based video responses and he's still thrown on the pile of "women haters". Throwing all of his subscribers on this pile as well is even more ridiculous, as well as assuming all of them are men who "won't take it laying down".

I will always remember Will Smith from Tested saying on their podcast that he thought the UK system for prosecuting for threatening tweets is terrible even if he's been the victim of them. I just wish the US had our laws on this, because some of these people need prosecuting for this shit.
