I think it's far from the best lineup of newcomers.
I've made bold the BIG names from each game. I'm sure you'll probably disagree with me on that, but I mean...who in that lineup appeals to the casual Nintendo fan? Robin, Lucina, Palutena, Dark Pit, Shulk and Greninja are all from games released in the last few years. Duck Hunt Dog and Little Mac are fairly niche characters as well. I seem to be in the minority in not being able to see the appeal of Wii Fit Trainer, and I'm not a big fan of Rosalina either. Mega Man is the only real big-hitter, and even then I doubt kids even know who he is these days.
Compare that to the likes of Bowser, Ganondorf, Mewtwo, Peach, Zelda, Diddy Kong, Lucario, Solid Snake...SONIC THE HEDGEHOG?! Nah, Smash 4 might have the most newcomers (and if you count Pokemon Trainer as three separate characters it doesn't even have that), but it's far from the best. AND then you have to take into consideration the cuts.
In this post I learned that Lucario is a bigger deal than PAC-MAN and the Animal Crossing Villager.
For real?

Smash has always been about the past and the present. Characters like Ness,Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Ike, Lucas, Lucario... Were relatively new by the time they appeared for the first time in the series. Shulk is as new as Pikachu and Ness were in the first Smash.
What's funny is that Pac-Man is a bigger name than Mario... Or at least it was a few years ago.In this post I learned that Lucario is a bigger deal than PAC-MAN and the Animal Crossing Villager.

Well you need to keep in mind that not everyone playing Smash grew up in the 80's/90's and so far all the characters have appealed to someone.Going full-on retro would have been more amazing than Brawl's roster for me.
Excitebiker, Duck Hunt Dog, Mike Jones, Little Mac, Megaman, Pacman, Simon Belmont, Sukapon, Mach Rider, Takamaru, Ayumi Tachibana, Prince Sable, Ryu Hyabusa, Donbe & Hikari, NES Sport rep, Tamagon...
Making characters that will never have a chance of being in their own game again or that people have never even heard of a playable fighter in smash has always been infinitely more interesting to me than a character I played as last week.
Wasn't Ike in Smash before his Game was even released?

A few years? 30 years is much more accurate. What's funny is that Pac-Man is a bigger name than Mario... Or at least it was a few years ago.

30 years ago he was the number one icon for videogames world wide. Winning some poll means nothing, if you share it with many different big characters and franchises.I think there was a poll in recent years that PacMan won actually.
That was Roy in Melee. He was there advertising the upcoming Fire Emblem for GBA (it was the one before the first one we got).

Just a question, guys, when did they add the Megaman 2 Medley and three other tunes to the music section? I hadn't heard them them before, the MM2 is face-meltingly awesome! Love the battle theme for M&L: Dream Team Bros, too.
Guys, should I go digital or keep my physical preorder?
Benefits are cheaper physical, but faster download and much earlier.
;C
Physical, of course! The longer you wait, the more you will truly appreciate it... extra cash is good too.
Wow the PotD is absolute crap today.
That can be annoying when trying to capture someone's likeness when their ears are a distinctive feature if their face.(the only thing I think is missing from Miis are ears, they just look a bit odd without them.)
Wow the PotD is absolute crap today.
Truth there.
Sakurai is punishing us.
1.25hrs left.
I disagree. I was interested to see how Multi-Man Battle would be different this time around, and I was hoping it would use Miis.
Not sure why Sakurai would have to wait for an international Direct before revealing a character when he has Miiverse and the website at his disposal. It's not as though a lot has been happening on the Nintendo Direct front since Iwata's health woes, and the game releases in two weeks.
That being said, I'm still not sure we will see a newcomer in the next hour.
Only SmashBros.com already revealed that Multi-Man uses Miis more than two weeks ago.
A veteran, maybe. But all of the newcomers have had their own trailers when they were introduced. While they could just casually drop it one on the site, they've marketed newcomer reveals globally in the past.
So while it could happen, there's plenty of reasons why it won't.

Didn't someone call this exactly?![]()
Pic of the day. The mysterious fighting teams that appear in the Smash Bros. series come in many shapes and sizes, but this time even we don't know what all of them will look like! It's said that they copy faces from Mii characters saved on your system and attack in a large throng !! But wait, they all have big smiles on their faces. Looks like they're having a good time, so show no mercy and launch them all away!!

Well I wasn't fairly young when I got mine and like them. It's thanks to their simplicity but flexibility which allows one to capture the likeness of many people. Just compare them to XBox avatars that basically all look the same.I love Miis more than most avatars for some reason. Maybe it's because I was still fairly young when I got a Wii.
Serebii posted, back when Greninja was revealed, that GameFreak had released information that he was the most used Pokémon in Pokémon Amie. I'd say he's pretty popular.Pokemon X&Y has sold ~12 million copies, but I mean...how of many of them are going to be Smash? How many of them actually like Greninja? Compare Greninja's level of popularity to Charizard or Mewtwo or even Lucario.
I completely missed them! That Bowser.. The game also seems much faster than brawl, or quite a bit, which I found less noticeable in the Invitational. Finally watched SDCC finals
Bowser being good in this game is awesome
