Doubtful. Things like the extra buttons or C-stick aren't going to matter too much to the West, and they haven't committed to any New 3DS content other than Xenoblade.

They're pushing this in Japan first because it's a Monster Hunter machine.
 
i'm kind of concerned. they've only shown the white one with super famicom button colors in the regular size. i want an xl model like that. don't mess this up nintendo. you still haven't brought an all white 3ds to america.
 
I don't know which one I want, the new standard or new XL.
I guess I have time to decide.

Calling it now:

February/March. In NA just in time for tax return season.

I doubt that. If the pick up rate is high with the new 3DS, they will make games exclusive to it.

I don't care as much as the fact that you can play it on other systems, rather than the intention to release exclusive software...like a new platform.

I don't care if I can't play a downgraded version of Xenoblade on my 3DS, that's beyond the point, it just shows that Nintendo is planning to make this a new platform with an exclusive library.
 
This surprises me a bit. Wasn't expecting new model at all... Could this mean that they will be trying to have the 3DS life cycle be as long, perhaps longer, than NDS?
One thing for sure, however, when ever it comes to America, I will buy one.

EDIT: Also if that is the official name, the name sucks. Imo
 
what's wrong with all the people in this thread complaining?

This isn't a new system, it won't be getting tons of exclusive content, and the few games it will get will most likely be playable on Nintendo's next portable, which is probably no more than two years away..

I don't get the negativity. Just like DSi, this will help make the transition to new tech and new connectivity and business models smoother for Nintendo.
 
Yippee, and I just bought one of those 3DS XL Refurbs. :(

I honestly did NOT expect a revision. The XL as is seemed fine.

I probably would've waited until Black Friday next year at the earliest anyway. I guess I'll get a year's worth out of my current XL before upgrading, if I feel it's the right move.

No you can't. Since you can't play the "exclusive"/new horsepower titles even with that add-on.

I don't get it, either. Imagine if there was all this whining when the Game Boy Color was released. It's absurd.

What? My point is the 3DS and 2DS won't be able to run all of the 3DS games anymore, because there is now a New 3DS.. They will have to look at the box and see if the 3DS will be able to run new games because they might be on the New 3DS exclusively.

I think you interpreted what I mean't wrong.

The browser runs HTML5. Unity might need some more work before ready for 3DS. I used to think Unity won't come to 3DS ever because it's age old, but with Nintendo trying to expand its lifetime, hopefully so.
 
Aside from the name this is looking great.

I think this is the first time I'll trade a game console for a revision...
Now, I don't know if I keep with the XL of change to the regular one. I think the XL is little big, but I like the bigger screens, and I'm used to them...
 
I was so happy with my XL.... but if the 3D is even better, I'll have to try it. I'll reserve judgement on that right analogue nub until I try it.

Edit: Xenoblade exclusivity on this model? Now it's a day 1 buy for me. This is my third 3DS... and I have absolutely no qualms about it. Let's hope the build quality is good and the price point is right.

It's faster and has better battery life. The additional analog and buttons are arguably not as important here, but they are valuable in some games.

I think we might see a price drop in the west instead. Price drop would probably make more of a difference.
 
I wonder how having xenoblade be portable will effect its sales in Japan. I think it (Along with having Shulk in Smash plus the Wii U successor really shows just how much Nintendo wants to turn it into a major franchise.

Thing is, people already confuse the shit out of nintendo' hardware. Ignoring the WiiU catastrophe, the 3ds is a successor to the immensely popular DS. It plays DS games, but DS doesn't play 3DS games. People don't know this, cause the DS, DS lite, DSi, and DS XL all played all games. So people thought 3ds was just a new DS. But, whatever, it's different.

But then Nintendo releases a 3ds xl. Bigger. Okay.

But then a 2ds. It plays 3ds games. But only in 2d. There are no "2ds" games.

It has better specs, better screen, better battery life, better 3d, and more buttons. But it is NOT a new platform. It's not new hardware. It's not the "next DS system" like a PS4 is to a PS3.

We know of one game, which probably won't ever see a localization anyway.

Much of the added horsepower is only being used to improve the OS, such as faster download speeds and real-time eye-tracking to negate the ghosting effect. In particular, the real-time eye-tracking is probably the main reason for the bump in CPU power. I'm guessing 99% of games will still be playable on a regular 3DS.
