Nintendo reveals the "New Nintendo 3DS" and "New Nintendo 3DS LL"

It's an upgrade to an existing system, that's all it's meant to be. They wanted to keep the form factor and shape and these come with space restrictions. The "stick" is probably like those mouse nubs on laptops and isn't meant to be used as a main input method, probably just for occasional camera adjustment for the few games that would benefit from it. I don't understand why people are so upset. If the 3DS didn't interest you previously, this update isn't meant to make you do a 180.

Pretty much, I just tried it on the current 3DS XL, and it's not that bad of spot. Maybe occasionally accidentally hit the X button, but it's a C-stick, similar to the GC.

even for the downloaded games from eshop?

You'll have to transfer those through the system transfer on the 3DS. I'm sure they'll add an extra step to the update for those who want to update from a 3DS to a New 3DS. Or they'll just give you an adapter for the SD mini so that it can fit in the 3DS when you do the system transfer.

Well my OG 3DS joystick was starting to act funky with its inputs (Very noticeable when i play AC) so I'm okay with this. Time to retire my current 3DS and upgrade when this comes out.

While we are at it: I am the only who always changes the volume unintentionally whily playing? Is there an option to turn that switch off?

Improved 3D will go a long way, I barely use mine since it has to be so direct.

Be getting this day one, hopefully $199.

The battery in the New XL is the exact same size as the old XL. The system must drain less power in order to get a longer battery life. Maybe the CPU/gpu are revised and smaller?

SWEET JESUS I WANT IT SO BAD. My sister is gonna kill me D:

Erm WTF?
If there are going to be new3DS exclusive games I'm done with the handheld.

Hopefully somebody comes in to set the story straight.
Games come out that are exclusive to new versions of the iPhone or iPad and those devices cost a shitload more to upgrade. It's not that big of a deal IMO. You can always trade in your current system when this comes out for at least 1/3rd the price. $100 every few years isn't that bad.

One of the real megatons is the 3D eye tracking, which will eliminate the need for a "sweet spot" when using 3D.

I am SOOO curious how this will work. If this works well, this would change my negative perception of the current 3D effect a lot I think.

I've never done that.

Speaking of audio, I hope the speakers aren't shit this time on the XL. They have slightly more space this time around, so I hope that's because they wanted to add better speakers.

I can't believe almost all Neogaf community is loving this s**t.

Bad left analogue since day one, uncomfortable shoulder buttons and now a new right tiny analogue (so you need it Nintendo, right?) and a new shoulder button,.... and you look so happy. You look like Apple fanboys. :((

3ds is a total mess and they are trying to fix it instead to rebuild it from scratch.

This is so true. I didn't realise gaf was comprised of this many Nintendo fanatics.

They look good, but... where are they going with this? With a new button and NFC support, this almost strikes me as a pseudo-new platform...? I guess they are not planning on releasing a real 3DS successor in the next few years?

That's no excuse for poor design. They could have added a usable second stick and not broken compatibility.

This thing looks like a bad fan mock up and an ergonomic nightmare.

You can still buy the CPP. Regarding ergonomics, I can't comment until I've tried it, so I don't know if it's poor design beside maybe aesthetically, and personally I'm okay with how it looks.

I don't see it that way at all. I see it as a temporary fix which will hopefully be fully addressed with their next system, and I still think the 3DS has two years tops left in it.

The ergonomics on that thing look like butt. Why not lower the buttons and make the second stick the same size and general location of the first one? Stupid, stupid, stupid.

as if i'm going to keep the system till the release time
i wanna sell it soon and keep the memory for transfer matters, if that's wont do, then whatever :\

Sigh, now I don't have a good reason to get the Super Smash Bros. 3DS XL if/when it's released here. Hopefully there's a New 3DS/LL version of it that they haven't revealed yet.

The second stick looks awkward, but I guess I should reserve judgment until I try it. Hope it reaches North America before MH4U. I haven't ordered a CPP XL yet, but I would just buy a New 3DS XL if the second stick feels good.

Dude I totally agree on all points

If anything this is a half effort towards making it a better piece of hardware.

That said.. I am glad I waited. MH4U is a must have for me so at least I can play it on something better.
