Nintendo reveals the "New Nintendo 3DS" and "New Nintendo 3DS LL"

I bet 3rd party sellers will make some sick ass faceplates.

I'm all in for the better screen. Don't see how that tiny ass c button can be used for anything, though.

What does Smash Bros have to do with anything? It's a completely different game. Obviously it will still have to go through QA, but that doesn't have anything to do with how easy it is to localize.

My point is that it's still going to have to go through the same process as any other game. Just because the Wii version was localized already, it's not like they just type the any key and voila, you have a fully localized 3DS port!

you do realize a Japanese system and an American one are identical, right?

region lock isn't a hardware issue. The only localization that would be needed (assuming it's the same Xenoblade we know and doesn't have some new network or community features) is the one that was already done for Wii. That content just needs to be downscaled.

Just hit the any key and the port will sort itself out, ok, gotcha

Nintendo must be really mad about those pornhub stats.

Oh wow! Thanks for letting me know. got carried away assuming it was only for the new one.

This is only for the new 3DS : cover plate (you can change when you want) change your home menu too.

Right stick looks strange, maybe it'll work fine in person, though. Z buttons look awkward as fuck, but it is nice to have the extra buttons. Having exclusives like Xenoblade is fucked.

I find this whole thing just weird.

So they increased the screen size on the small model? Nice - I'm in for that.

3DS is such a great little system and it looks like its getting Nintendo's attention again.

Maybe they can finally add SNES and GBA support to VC..

This somewhat solves my region locking dilemma?

I can get a US 3DS XL and then just import any games where PAL gets/got screwed.

Or, or! Nintendo could make this region free?! Maybe.....

So, let me get this straight:

New LL screen is same size as old LL?

Micro SD card full replaces normal SD card, right?

Are the faceplates only for the smaller one, or are some faceplates for the LL?

Why does the screen look worse sometimes? Is it an auto-brightness thing?

Do the extra buttons/stick basically work exactly like circle pad pro? Games that support CPP also support the new buttons?

What other details are there that I might have missed?

Having bought a 3DS XL not so long ago i hate these anouncement. No way I'm buying a new hardware revision for a couple of games.

Going from xbox to 360, going to ps3-ps4 is not the same. You know in advance and the specs are greatly different.

This is not the same thing, oh well. Nothing I can do :)

And that naming scheme, I don't see any confusion for the consumers. Will they still sell the old 3ds?

This sounds awesome, but I do think early 2015 is a bad idea for na/eu. I don't follow sales data very closely and I'm far from a business minded individual, however, it seems like they're going to miss out on holiday sales here. I know that some people will still get the old 3ds for Christmas but people who are aware of this will probably hold off, right? I know I was going to get a 3ds for persona/pokemon/fantasy life but am going to wait now.

(hopefully) Irrational fear of the day:

If Nintendo Europe decide that MH4U only works with the new version I will kill someone or something.

I know Nintendo wouldn't stoop to that.....

There's absolutely no reason why Nintendo and Capcom would do that, especially considering that 1. MH4 is already out in Japan and 2. MH4U has been announced for the "old" 3DS for months now.

Let's not stoop to fearmongering.

If the screen on the N3DS was at least 4" I'd buy it, but 3,88 is tiny, will get the XL instead.

I wonder of the original 3DS was like this New would have helped the sales.

I'm highly considering getting the new 3DS. I have been in the market for a 3DS XL, but I'm glad that I waited. The detachable face plates and the colored buttons look amazing. Does anyone know if both of these systems will be made of the same matte material the 3DS XL is? I couldn't stand the weird reflective plastic the 3DS is made of.

You should also add some kind of exclusive games to the model in the works.

Look at the post above you, the spec/features have been trasnlated in english.

Can the OP put this in his post ?

Dammit Nintendo, I was just gonna upgrade my 3DS XL memory card and now you release this. Day One for thr new 3DS XL2. With a more powerful CPU, I hope we can now play Super Nintendo, GBA and N64 games via the E-shop. I refuse to play Metroid Fusion and Super Metroid on my TV.

Sorry if it has been answered already but did they increase the resolution? And if anybody knows, how big of a jump is the new cpu? I have so many questions but I'm buying no matter what! I love the 3DS and I'm so happy about this. Plus I never got a chance to play Xenoblade on Wii, so now I'll be able to play on the new 3DS!

Nevermind. Just saw the other post.

I think I'll get the XL version.

The 3D is now improved, so why get the smaller one? I want to see it in all its 180 degree glory.

I hate how the XL doesn't have colored buttons as well. I don't see the reasoning or point in not having them colored.

Much like the lack of face plates I wouldn't be surprised if this is an extension of the philosophy behind the original XL, it's designed to appeal to the older market. The standard size one is for the "young" market.

I'm loving this hardware revision and I'm going to buy this as soon as it's available.

Are they planning on porting over more Wii/Gamecube games to the 3DS? I'm not sure how many games they have out or in development that would warrant the ZL and ZR buttons or the second analog stick besides maybe Monster Hunter, Xenoblade, or Resident Evil Revelations.

I would be overjoyed if they started to port Wii games to the New 3DS.

Please give me Prime Hunters 3DS sequel.

No resolution bump. We don't know how much better the CPU is, I'm guessing the main reason they increased it at all was for the eye-tracking, which is probably pretty resource intensive and which has to be available at all times since it is one of the main advertised features. It's also being used for other OS stuff, and judging by the Xenoblade footage (which is downgraded from the Wii version quite a bit) there isn't much left over for games.

Disappointed slightly cause I got a purple 3DS for my birthday, but daaamn that matte black 3DS with colored buttons is hot, I hope for a good trade-in offer.
