I'm surprised how mad people are getting about this. Between gameboy colour and DSi XL this is pretty standard for Nintendo. The only reason the GBA didn't get a revision of this sort was because of its short lifespan due to that failed "third pillar' stuff alongside the DS.
It's really not that shocking that they're doing this, and the only "new" software that's announced at this point in a Xenoblade port. Nothing to freak out over. I really don't get the "oh I bought the Zelda 3DS XL (or other special versions) for nothing?" reactions either. You bought a product that you wanted to use, you didn't buy it for nothing. On top of that you bought a nearly 3 year old product. Everything product has a lifespan and you know that going into it.
And hell, the 3DS' lifespan isn't even close to over yet, really, the vast majority of software will probably still just be for it anyway.
