That's for 3DS version. Wii U will probably get 54, and when it's released as DLC for 3DS (to keep with Sakurai's promise), the CSS will be perfect.

Anyways, I personally feel that Sakurai and the dev team are aware of the fact that characters would leak online, so they made the roster big enough so fans can just jump right into playing their favorite characters. What's the point in this day and age of the internet when surprises are easily exposed? It would make sense as to why the roster is so big.

I really have no doubt Mewtwo will be playable at some point. He's remained so highly requested among the community from both sides of the pond that undoubtedly Sakurai knows fans want him back. If he's not a part of the vanilla game for both versions, I'm can almost guarantee he will be part of some pack in the future.
Life as a Chibi Robo fan can be tough sometimes. peh!

Both played differently, and as a Lucas main I would hate it. Even having Ness with similar custom moves isn't going to make me hate all those moves being gone.
So...Nintendo went to all the trouble of creating mock up playable characters for the game, in order to throw off potential leaks?...
To be honest, Sakurai seems like he might just do that.

An ideal scenario would be for a cut veteran to be added through each monthly update, and newcomer DLC to be announced once the roster is 'complete'. Though it is tremendously unlikely...

I don't think this roster needs any "saving" buuut...
Wolf, Lucas, Ice Climbers, Snake and Chorus Kids/RH rep are all I need to call the roster perfect.

What worries me is that Sakurai probably wants to FINISH this game. He's been working so hard for so long and his health has suffered as a result. DLC would extend his involvement with the game longer and he probably isn't hugely interested in that. Possibly Namco could do it without him, but any content without Sakurai sounds unlikely to me.
