Sony Pre-TGS 2014 SCEJA Conference - Wait we're in Japan? [Over]

They've already said The Last Guardian won't be there.

Nothing huge ever really gets announced at TGS, I'll be happy with one big game announcement, and we'll be lucky if even that happens.

Technically they said The Last Guardian won't be at TGS. This is pre-TGS!

It still won't be there

While I don't know who the hell would be a better choice, Ang Lee wouldn't be my pick if it comes down to making a Suikoden game. What it needs are directors that can tell a great war story that has a large cast, while maintaining strong identity of all sides. Ang Lee is better in terms of emotional storytelling.
.
Hideo Kojima.
Shoji Kawamori. ( lulz choice)

Idris Elba.
Zone of 3nders.

lol, I'd be entertained by this.

Kojima should just change his name to Konami.

Nah, should definitely be the other way around. Kojima is clearly more important than Konami.

It means hopefully well enough to crawl back to the base expectation of achieving PS3 level sales by its end-of-life, plus/minus 20%.

Nobody expects a revitalisation of the console market in Japan. However, we at least want a status quo where enough consoles are sold that game makers will still say "can't be helped, I'll make PS4 games."
Isn't developing for PS4 inevitable for developers who want to sell their games to the international audience?
It's like everyone forgot what happened when 3DS got Monster Hunter! :P

Wait...wait...are you saying Monster Hunter is coming to PS4? I have to admit Monster would probably "save" PS4 in Japan.

Before conference: "Oh my god hype train choo choo dis gon b gud japan lets go!"

After conference: "What did you expect?"

Happens every year with every conference. People just generally have insane expectations. It really baffles me how it happens especially with E3 every year.

So basically, we've already got hints from some credible sources that this conference is going to bring the hype, especially with the comment made that Sony's conference has stuff that will finally swing the tide for PS4 in Japan. I want to keep my expectations as low as possible so I'll be surprised, but I an't help but feel hyped even for my trolling butt. :P
What sources? Haven't really been keeping up, totally forgot this is tomorrow.

Well, afaik it won't be but plans change. I do think Type-0 could show though. This is going to be a pretty important conference for the JP market.

lol, they already played Type-0 though, how is that "important"? Granted, it's not like Square's all that in touch.

These stop-gap releases end up being important when many SE games in the immediate pipeline has two platforms attached to their name.

3DS & Mobile.

Sucks to be you, Square.

Is there anything short of DQ XI that has any sort of a chance of at least partially salvaging the PS4?

Well, Torne for PS4 just came out so that should help a lot.*

Stuff I'm expecting:
PS1/PS2 BC, probably for discs as well as PSN Classics.
Shmup (already announced, dunno if shown) from the Radiant Silvergun/Ikaruga designer for PS4, but probably not ports of those two games though as he's not at Treasure now iirc.
SCEJA dabbles in dark F2P magic with one of their classic RPGs.
Speaking of F2P, lots of Korean MMOs getting ports.
Phantasy Star Online 2 (Don't worry, still won't get localized)
Hatsune Miku PS4
Trailer for Yakuza Zero
The usual Bandai anime stuff, probably Naruto as the sane** publishers will be putting stuff out they know does well in the West. Macross will have to wait.
Random Tales of that's more than three years old getting a PS4 port along with Zestria.

If we're lucky:
Persona 5 getting a port.

If Sony's serious about "saving" the PS4 (and maybe the console gaming market):
Dragon Quest XI

*
Not kidding, iirc when Torne launched for the PS3 it was a big deal and the baseline sales went up quite a bit for many months.

**
Watch Sega not localize anything they announce other than Miku, which in the grand scheme of things does not do well in the west, but hey, it's cheap.

Um... because... it's one of the tentpole titles SE is going to use for next year.

Type-0 HD makes sense. They showed that 20-minute demo to press this weekend, so I'm sure it'll be unveiled in some form soon. Sony's press conference is a good place.

AFAWK, we should expect less games overall from the biggest Japanese publishers in the world compared to last gen... because well, consolidated development and all that, less games, bigger teams, etc.

That, and with a lot of resources shifted to 3DS/Mobile, that might also affect output on consoles.

That means even from the big publishers that are definitely supporting PS4, less games from them will end up in a smaller buying audience.

That, and Japan still has a sizable amount of Japanese developers/games that are very regionally focused. An underperforming PS4 locally, even if it's successful everywhere else, may just lead to them deciding that 'fuck consoles, let's go mobile!"

I mean, it's not like it hasn't happened before.

The only thing that would have more shock appeal for me than The Last Guardian, which won't be there,
would be
a proper turn based Phantasy Star V jRPG.

"But that story was concluded two decades ago" --I don't wanna hear that shit.
