Thanks guys, going to try to finish 3/4 bit by bit, I know the gameplay's a huge part of it, but story spoilers really dampen the experience for me.

And just thought of this too:
Something about the gas station clerk, he's one of the main bad guys or something.

Man, screw /v/... :/

I definitely wouldn't let those spoilers stop you from playing it. If I'm being honest, the whole murder mystery aspect of the story isn't why you would ever play the game; it's the character interactions and all the stuff in-between the main story that makes P4 great (and there's a whole lot of that stuff).

And while the spoilers you mentioned are pretty big, those specific sentences barely scratch the surface of the big picture. There's pleeenty more surprises to be found.

Dunno if this has been talked about, but what sort of changes would you folks like to see with Social Links?

It would be cool if S. Links had an effect on how part of the dialogue unfolds. Some characters could acknowledge who you're dating at the moment. A character with whom you have a higher rank could stand up for you in a difficult situation but remain passive if you've been neglecting their S. Link.

Maybe you could hook up one of your bros with another party member and go on double dates, which would result in some kind of bonus. Some S. Links could have branching paths.

Really, there's a ton of ways to improve on the current system.

I've never played a Persona game before, should I start one up before 5 hits?

and if so, which one?

Persona 4 was a better overall game in hindsight... Better plot, less oppresively dark, more stuff to do, better at keeping you playing, better music (although not by much). I do feel that Persona 3 had the better camera in-dungeon though (isometric versus behind the back).

As the previous posters mentioned, however, Persona 4: Dancing All Night is the sex and will defeat them both. :-)

Seriously though, you cant go wrong with either P3 or P4... Ill always remember them as the games that finally dislodged Chrono Trigger for the SNES as my favorite JRPG(s) of all time.

I've gotta say, I'm glad it's coming out on PS4. that new MC looks great, too (Generic, as they should be, but with a hint of uniqueness, too).

I'm afraid this game won't be able to top P4. I'm sure that's an unwarranted claim, as Catherine was a surprisingly excellent game.

That logo though, damn. I love it.

I just started the Persona series this year by completing P3: FES, P4, (wish I could've played Golden but I can deal) and P4A so I feel like I'm on Persona overload right now. ;)

Really looking forward to the next game though! Hoping that Catherine serves as a good example for what to expect since I loved the art style in that game.

So how much is this going to be Anime Highschool: The High School Anime: The Game?

Yes, I know that is what made the series famous. But son, I've been playing Persona games probably longer than you've been alive, and I know there can be plenty more to them than that. Just wondering what we've seen so far.

Considering how wildly successful P3 and P4 have been for Atlus...I'd say those elements will be more prominent than ever.

Good news for me...that's the primary reason why I'm so excited for it. I love the life simulation and the dating sim components of it.

All we know is it stars high school students. For all we know, it could be a Battle Royale scenario where they're forced to kill each other.

Do people really take the waifu/husbando stuff seriously? I thought most of it was all tongue and cheek?

On Topic: I am very excited. I wonder if they are going to do cutscenes like they did in Catherine or keep the old style.

" ["waifu" crap = ban] "

Thank you, mods.

This thought went through my head as soon as I saw the new thread title.

Edit:

It is tongue in cheek most of the time. Not all, but in either case from the outside looking in, a person couldn't tell the difference.

So have we discussed the possibilities of how long this will probably take to get localized? I know Atlus USA handles localization, but with Sega as their new boss will their speed be affected in any way?

Haha, you did not just say that. Please watch this video.

Persona has always, always, always, always been about high school students. The one game in the series that didn't revolve around high school students is the second half of a duology... where the plot is predicated on the actions of high school students.

The 3 pillars of Persona are high school, relationships and Persona's. Always has been, and it'll probably always will be.

What makes this series so special?

- Wonderful cast of characters who have meaningful character development (also don't let some people fool you. Social links are experienced with everyone and combat a wide array of issues not just romantic interests)
- great stories
- solid turn based combat and one that has depth
- some of best OST's in jrpg history
- charming art style
- replay value is high (doubt you could max all SL's since there are time constraints) as is the game length.

Wrap it all together and you get one of the best if not the best (imo) jrpg series in gaming right now.

My man.

Yup, agreed. Easily my favourite series at the moment. The wide appeal is also pretty crazy, I know quite a few people who don't particularly like JRPGs but loved P4.

Thanks. Maybe it's not going to reflect on the content of the actual game, but P5's debut seems more grounded and subdued than that of the previous two games.

The teaser kinda reminds me of that one Digimon episode where the MC gets warped back to the real world and starts seeing monsters everywhere. Anyone else getting similar vibes?

I don't agree with this. It's probably the worse part of a Persona game. At least for 4. It just bored me to tears but the rest of it is very solid.

I've only played Persona 4 on the Vita, which was decent. I'm probably gonna try out P3P too. I'd rather get 5 on Vita if they confirm a portable version but I maybe enjoyed 4 enough to buy it second hand on console if the Vita version doesn't come.

So P3 took a year later to release to NA.

P4 took about 6 months.

If we assume their team is decently big now and they've somewhat upped their speeds, we can expect the game in the same year

Well said.

My favourite part is how the story development ties directly into the character development. This is further accentuated with the Social Link system, where you learn more about each character and it helps you in battles and you get to know what makes them click.

All in all, you have some of the best character development that meaningfully ties into the gameplay on more ways than one. It's yet to be seen how it works in P5, but it's been so successful that I think we can bank on it.

Seems there's been a bit of a boom in Persona out of nowhere over the P5-PS4 news. My uncle who isn't particularly one I'd reckon as being into games asked me what I know about "Persona" and that he's been hearing about it a lot today. Can't help but consider this on the odd side considering he's the same man who thought that EA publishes GTA and doesn't have much exposure to the medium beyond Minecraft.

mods probably realize its not serious, but they didn't want a trailer reveal thread getting filled with "remember chie da best/ yukari a shit" stuff.

I like the series but there's absolutely no way I'm buying this day one.

They swore up and down that P4 wouldn't have a FES version, yet sure enough along came Golden.

I'll be waiting for the eventual FES/Golden version that will come out a year later with extra content.
