Can we talk about the apparent iCloud break-in?

I'm waiting for the day where telling a kid to look before crossing the street gets called victim blaming

Yeah it will be victim blaming if he already looked both ways but still was hit by an irresponsible driver.

Fuck outta here with that trash.

If the victims were primarily male celebrities, especially internet darlings like Weird Al, the Internet would be urging that people leave the celebrities alone. Instead there's a lot more "share it, who cares" than there would be in the alternate universe.

No, I think there would be a lot less people sympathising with the celebrities.

Seriously, days like this one is why I love the internet. Not because I was longing for nude pics of mildly attractive girls but because it goes to show how stupidly absurd "celebrity culture" is.

.

Both sides of the fence are acting totally absurd about the whole deal.

Frankly, I'm more interested in HOW it happened.

I don't think this would be the case at all. If it was male celebrities, no one would give a fuck.

I'm not sure what that says about society but I genuinely feel that would be the reaction. There would be a few news stories but it wouldn't stir the level of noise that this leak has.

Not a good analogy. Weird Al isn't known for being sexually attractive. If Justin Bieber and Ashton Kutcher nudes leaked, we'd see the same response, except from a different audience.

The best way to not have anything stolen from you is to not have any property.
Oh please.

There's this thing called common sense and taking responsibility.

Lock your house. Lock your car. Don't post upload pictures you want to stay private to the net. Don't walk around a dodgy neighbourhood with your iphone out at night.

It's not called victim blaming. It's called being a responsible adult.

Um.

That's Darwinism if they looked both ways but still decided to go despite unsafe traffic.

In fact, fuck the "victim" in this case.

Yeah, no. People wouldn't give a shit either way.

Bullshit...

And now I wanna see Weird Al, naked....thanks.

Kutcher nudes would blow by in a day. Fucks would be given for about 24 hours.

Bieber. Yeah, Bieber is one of the extremely rare cases that a male nude would draw significant attention.

My guess is dropbox probably had to do with alot of the leaks just because its easy to miss the automatic upload warning as it is a popup that appears when you want to upload something to dropbox off your mobile device. Everytime you access dropbox after that your photos will sync. Apple will and already is taking the major PR hit though

I can't imagine not using 2FA on Dropbox because I have tax and financial docs on mine going back like 10 years. I'd rather have pics of my naughty bits get stolen, not that there's any of those on there.

LOL, of course I would. I couldn't help but calling them idiots for taking these pics in the first place though. But as it is today, I'm just an innocent bystander having a laugh.
It's called empathy. They're still people even though they're famous.

I'm still waiting on you to explain what your appraisal of Kirsten Dunst's tits has to do with anything.

Are you one of these celebrities or do you care about them?
No, not particularly. But I'm still able to feel sympathy for what some of these women must be going through at the moment.

Actually if those where male actors, people would not only not sympathize with them but actively mock then.

As far as the "victim blaming" part goes....

I think people are not differentiating between "taking reasonable precautions" and flat out "victim blaming". Maybe a reasonable precaution would be taking practical safeguards to prevent the breach of private/confidential material...like having a strong password, having it stored in an area not easily accessible to people, not publicizing the material, etc.

Nonetheless, I think it comes down to interpretation. Some might think that having nude photos of yourself isn't reasonable (because you wouldn't do it). Then again, private material is private material, so it doesn't really matter what KIND of private material is being accessed: nudes, emails, phone records, Internet searches, etc. It all might as well be nudes because if sensitive material were to be disclosed to the public, people would be pissed.

Sooooo.....yeah. lol

That's all that needs to be said. Did I really have to piss you off in order for you to show sensitivity? No I didn't. Stop trying to be proud and show some basic human emotion.

I don't call it over dramatic. I call it passionate! :D

Can you at least admit that all those involved look spectacular?

They're not exaclty a victim if they looked both ways and still decided to enter traffic despite unsafe conditions. You need to reevaluate what being a victim entails.

I think if you reeled this comparison back into the topic, the celebrities probably didn't look both ways. I think a lot of people don't do their due diligence when it comes to their privacy.

This may get the conversation rolling.

I don't know why you desperately try to connect looks & empathy together? What's the point? One can feel emphathy for the victims of this pirvacy leak and have an opinion about their looks at the same time.

Apparently some guy who's been collecting the pictures is going to post the thousands that he has. This isn't going to end well for anyone.

Fixed that for you.

Of course it would be a big deal. I think the question there is "why didn't they get targeted".

There have been male celebrity nude leaks in the past. They really haven't made that much news. I'm going by what we've seen.

"Why didn't they get targeted?" Dudes love to see famous women naked. And yes, there is a large amount of objectifying that comes with that.

Edit: Whatever Jennifer Lawrence is planning to do should include calling up Scarlett Johansen. I don't know what Scarlett did, but when her nudes leaked the story died out pretty quickly without much fanfare after a week. It's an after thought now.

From what I heard she doesn't have Twitter.

I like her even more now.

Taking precautions isn't victim blaming in my opinion. I take precautions every day in my life, everyone does.

Yup. I find that the term Victim Blaming gets thrown around a little dangerously sometimes. There is definitely a great deal of legitimate victim blaming that needs to be dealt with, twitter has an abundance of it on a daily basis, but advising people to take caution proactively shouldn't be summarily dismissed as such.

It's not even about iCloud itself, nudes and sex tapes leak all. the. freaking. time. no matter the format. Why would you ever do one if you are a public person? It absolutely sucks, and in a different society they would be inconsequential because no one should be shamed for its body or what they do in the bed, but that is not the society we live in.

Yeah, they're public people, but they are still human. They want to get their kink on and have some fun just like your average Joe and Jill. I don't blame them for doing what they did even though it was a little foolish. We all do foolish things. They are allowed to be just as foolish as the rest of us.

In my mid-20s I took videos and pics of me and my gfs doing the nasty.

Now in my mid 30s I look back and see that as a completely asinine thing to do. Plain stupid.

Its funny how we have some guys trying to say that male pictures would have garnered more outrage when Justin Verlander (argueably the most famous person of the bunch depending on your circle) had dick pics released with these photos.

Who is being body shamed here?

The clubhouse must have been a riot today.

I'm thinking of starting a #pleasethinkofverlander campaign because it's bound to piss someone off.

Right, i'm not blaming them it's not their faults at all but my point is that they should be aware that these things can possibly happen. Don't really understand what you were saying with your example.
I explained it in the quote I made right above your quote. I'm not sure why you think that people, especially celebrities, aren't aware that they can get hacked.

If that was off his phone and not Kate Upton's. Who are those other chicks, dude got exposed.

They probably know that there is a possibility they can get hacked, but like most people, they just don't think it's going to happen to them.

Most people don't read Terms of Service or double check security information on most things when it comes to the Internet.

I know, i know. And i agree. I was trying to defend Ricky because i think (think) he just doesn't trust the safety of technology.

But this information should have been unhackable and these people were misleaded.

There's no such thing as "Unhackable". If it was made by man, another man can break it. It just takes time and someone willing to do it.

To be honest this was bound to happen at some point with 'a' cloud system (it's the main reason why I don't like for personal stuff. Also, because the terms & conditions make it questionable whether the material is in fact yours to begin with).

The nasty part is that particular people got targeted, and of course of severely limited gender, because everyone on the internet is a frustrated male, apparently.

They probably no that there is a possibility they can get hacked, but like most people, they just don't think it's going to happen to them.

Okay, then.

A lot of people are computer stupid. Things just work.
Are you arguing that celebrities don't know that they can get hacked? What exactly are you arguing? Please help me understand the point of your post.

I'm not the one who brought up her looks. I was asking that poster why he felt the need to bring up her appearance when he was purportedly commenting on her Twitter response. He still hasn't responded.

The reason I keep coming back to it is because these womens' appearance in the leaked pics is utterly irrelevant yet some posters continue to mention it. It was like the poster was giving Kirsten Dunst extra credit for her opinion because he approved of her appearance.
