Someone needs to shop Persona 5 onto this.

He's beary agrrrressive!

I believe Hashino actually confirmed that the game is once again about high school. It's one of the fundamentals of Persona to him, so that probably won't change.

"This week’s Dengeki PlayStation has first details on the Sunday-announced Persona 5.

The chairs and chains shown in the announcement teaser are located at a senior high school, according to the magazine. These make up the theme of Persona 5.

It’s described as an RPG that contains a message like a cathartic yell to overcome trials and break free from your chains.

The game will continue to adapt the series’ juvenile high school setting, but the atmosphere will be completely different.

Atlus promises the game will offer a sense of realism, including life-sized characters and a story built from a new world and values."

Sounds good to me.
I'm sorry if people who have played the games come off as oppressive here but seriously, broaden your horizons and try this stuff out.

You constantly see LTTP threads where people hate anime and generally don't like the same stuff that you're talking about. Tone 'inconsistencies' and all, they come to love the game. That's why you see a 50 page thread currently for a recently niche series.

The reason why cheesy bits in games work is because they make you feel good. Being able to relate back to high school and do some of the stuff in the game made I'm sure a lot of us feel good. It's a video game and doesn't have to be realistic when it isn't.

Preferences are fine, but going out of your way to try new stuff is great sometimes. Thank goodness I did and played Persona 3 and Persona 4.

Nah, it's okay. I enjoy hearing why fans like the series.

No. That's why there are bans in place. Now if you go visit the Persona community..........................................

I am honestly rather confused about the dissonance between what people say the Persona community topic is like and what it actually is like. Did some egregious things happen in the past?

You'll find us talking about the game?

Nope, it's just generalizations because of the whole "waifu" thing which again, is just a very small minority and doesn't make up all of the fanbase.

And I'd guess most of those are just kids anyway.

I dont know why they keep setting them in high school.

The setting is so freaking tired at this point.

It's what make Persona....well.. Persona.

There aren't a lot of JRPGs in modern HS anyway (well good ones at least).

It is a major part of the series along with finding your true self and whatnot.

The community topic is not like that. Honestly the only time it pops up is when some creates a P4 thread on gaming side or someone new joins the topic. Waifu/husbando wars get kind of old.

I still don't know if I should bother checking this series or not, even though Persona Q will technically be my first Persona game.
You mean your "first spinoff Persona game".
Persona Q will only give you a rough idea of what to expect in an actual mainline one.

People stupidly just assume every crazy Persona fan that is obsessed with waifus = Persona community. Those kind of things only happen in thread in the Gaming side.

Go for it! I'm excited Q is opening the gates of Persona to the audience of 3DS.

We're the fall guy.

Whenever a Persona thread derails into a creepy waifu wars, we'll be invariably tied to it, even when we're not responsible (which is most of the time). Folks just like to paint us with a broad brush, it seems.

Because high school nostalgia is a huge thing in Japan. And College/University isn't regarded in the same was as it is in the west.

Also, the 2011-2012 PSP ports of the Persona 2 duology didn't do so hot sales-wise compared to 3 and 4, if memory serves. While the first game (Innocent Sin) stars high schoolers, the vast majority of the focus is unrelated to high school. (The second game, Eternal Punishment, has a playable cast that is 6/7ths adults with full-time jobs.)

I've heard it suggested that the ports were a way for Atlus to test the water for moving back to that sort of storyline. I don't know if that's true, but it doesn't seem to be the direction they want to take with P5.

That sounds kind of silly, no way it's true.

I'm still bummed they decided to keep the high school setting. Hopefully they will move on with a new IP or something, that would be cool :D

Asking Alus to have P Studio move to a new IP would be like asking Square to move on from Final Fantasy. It's their breadwinner. They'll branch out occasionally with games like Catherine, but Persona is likely going to be around for a long time at this point.

Yeah, I'm hoping for a "branch out" kind of game from them (in, like, ten years, lol) I loved Catherine, I want to see more games with that kind of setting.

I know and its crap.

I dont want to remember high school.
It sucked ass.

It's a bit different in Japan where high school culture is similar to college culture in the west, aka the last time you can do shit before becoming a slave to corporations and whatnot. Or so I've heard.

I could be wrong, but I would guess that there are more people that have generally fond memories of high school than those who have absolutely negative knee-jerk responses to the setting. High-school wasn't the greatest thing ever, but a game like P4G sure made me introspective and a little bit nostalgic.

So Japan first in 2015? Wonder how long the west has to wait?

I'm sure that the sudden announcement of the PS4 port is the cause for the delay.

The localisation is already being produced in tandem with the delayed development, so if anything, I think the delay will minimise the Japan / USA split on Persona 5 releases.

Maybe they can even get it down to a worldwide release.

Didn't know this was delayed. A worldwide release would be great!

Cross gen???? FUCK

just kidding. this is cool. i might buy it on ps4 then

Even if they use the Catherine engine, its still gonna be colorful as fuck and will look great, Catherine's art style lent itself really well to a clean non-jagged presentation. It should look fantastic either way.

PS3 P5 is the only reason my PS3 is still plugged in... Might make me jump on a PS4 if I can catch a holiday season deal...

Sad to say I haven't played Catherine yet.

But I'm really curious how they'll outdo 4. I really liked the murder mystery (still haven't beaten it since I lost my late game save )

Agreed. I was really hoping the success of Catherine would lead them towards an adult setting for P5. When you think about it, an adult Persona game would basically be a videogame version of a Murakami novel. And that would be amazing.

But alas, high school it is again. At least the tone from the teaser seems a bit more serious this time.

No, college in Japan is where you go to have a good time and the last time you can be free before becoming a corporate wage slave. That's actually a much bigger part of college in Japan than it is in America, because Japanese colleges are a lot less rigorous than American colleges, and even then when applying for jobs after graduating the name of your college is all that's important, not your grades there. American universities are way more competitive and your grades actually matter for a lot more.

It's not the Catherine engine. They've said it's a brand new engine.

Going on about the P5 music.....we heard from the initial tease a bit of it. Sounds like the OST might have a bit of electronic music....I don;t know its hard to explain.
