I'm hoping we get a new stage tonight. I feel like there aren't many unique stages compared to other games. Hopefully there is a large number and it's just kept secret behind unlocks.

Aaannnd first post on the good ol' NeoGAF! :) Good to finally go from GAF-lurker to GAF post contributor.

Don't forget I'm here forever.
You guys all have great names.

I got some bad news....

Preorder cancelled. Hopefully Smash 5 isn't too far off.

Seriously though, here's hoping Falco's is atleast different..

I hope to god that fox and falco get new smash attacks. Call in an arwing, have slippy crash into the course while yelling for help, hell summon a dinosaur from dinoplanet but please please no more land master.

Should I be the harbringer of bad news to you? :p

@Hispanic at the Disco: Is that a fat Lucina avatar? Why? LOL

Totally agreed, Its just the dismissiveness (new word?) that sometimes comes whenever something new or different is presented.

The example I think of is the new ledgehogging mechanics. Depending on a lot of factors, invincibility frames, lag after you get booted off, etc, this can develop into a very new and different sort of ledgeplay; however it feels at time as though it gets dismissed simply BECAUSE it is different.

I recall the guys on the Treehouse stream were saying how the ledge changes were done with the competitive community in mind and they were looking forward to how they ended up being received.

"I hate you too!"

WOW, so good <3

guys guys, let's stop fighting

It's not what God would like to see us doing

See? What the hell's wrong with you juniors, you only get creepier with time

I'm sorry ):
I love you though. <3
With this are you referring to Melee? Because if so then you answer your own question about his perspective.

I have been playing smash since 64, been hosting tourneys since melee, and tried to be a large part of my states smash scene. I love all the smash games, they are all unique and fun for different reasons both competitively and casually (and I am more than happy to include project M in the list of smash games).

The problem that I see and I think bugs quite a few people (myself included) is the idea that as smash continues to grow and develop and perfect itself as a series is that it will inevitably and irrefutably get more and more akin to melee and the metagame it has developed.
Well stated. I see what you mean, and I can relate to that idea. It's never fun to see people disagree with you, especially if it puts you in a minority.

On the flipside, I find the opposite to be difficult; it's frustrating to know that the actual Smash Bros. series will probably never explore the possibilities of building on and growing from what was established in Melee. PM is interesting, but it's just not the same excitement and enthusiasm for me when it's not an official game.

In the end I guess we can all just be happy that Melee is continued in PM and Brawl (probably?) continued in the official sequels. 64 gets glimmers here and there, but seems mostly left behind :(

I have to agree with the bolded though. I've played all four in the past two weeks (both in tournament and at home/single player), and enjoyed all of them.

Absolutely. Can't stand that talk and the people who create it.

Smash 4 should be judged on how great a game and how great a celebration of Nintendo's history it is, not on how successfully it appeals to a very small, very obnoxious subset of Smash players.

Honestly, I think making a sweeping declaration of tourney players is significantly more obnoxious than any tourney player I've ever met. It's rude, it's dismissive, and quite frankly, casuals who completely dismiss people who play Smash in a different way by using homophobic slurs are more common than asshole tourney players and a lot worse. How about we worry about the many crappy casual players rather than the few obnoxious tournament players?

I fucking hate the tourney talk. My god, I don't see Smash as that kind of game. Just fucking enjoy the game.

And then this is just as bad. Get out of this thread with that, implying that people aren't playing Melee competitively for the sake of fun is insulting.

Leaks are the forbidden fruits that SmashGAF ate. It angered Sakurai the god and from then on, cast them away and let them suffer through Smash Run PotDs.

And that is how he who sees it all chose to take away Lucas from us, oh we are not worthy of such magnificence.

I enjoy playing Smash competitively. Why is that so wrong?

I suspect it has something to do with the game's designer specifically stating he does not consider, nor is he making a game ment for intensive competition.

Play it how you like, or join the Melee / Project M fellation in perpetuity, but Sakurai has made his intentions quite clear.

I don't hate any of you, I'm just so sick of people hating on Brawl and possibly Sm4sh because its not good enough for tourney's.
Its the reason why I hate Project M, had to make it like melee, cause its the perfect Tourney smash game.

Just annoys me.

I don't play in tourneys and Brawl is still awful for me. It's like I'm fighting against the game to have fun all the time. Tripping into attacks is rubbish. The inability to perform cool combos with my characters is deflating. The air control feels imprecise, floaty, and sluggish. Playing Brawl is like playing Melee with shackles on; it's a struggle to do anything enjoyable. I want the game to feel empowering (within reason), not limiting.

Also also

Let's say that a decent percentage of the tourney scene WAS shit during Brawl days

Well casual players are way shittier now, let's focus on how abusive casual players are to the fringe group of competitive players instead

So I played this on both Wii U and 3DS at pax...

Super disappointed in the 3ds version. The controls just do not transfer over well at all, and the screen is too small for a smash game. No longer sure if it'll be day 1.

Wii U version is absolutely fantastic, though.
