Persona 5 also launching on PS4, releasing 2015 ["waifu"/"husbando" crap = ban]

Agreed. I was really hoping the success of Catherine would lead them towards an adult setting for P5. When you think about it, an adult Persona game would basically be a videogame version of a Murakami novel. And that would be amazing.

But alas, high school it is again. At least the tone from the teaser seems a bit more serious this time.

I dont know why they keep setting them in high school.

The setting is so freaking tired at this point.

There literally might be around 15 Shin Megami Tensei games set with adult characters that tackle more "mature" themes, versus a handful of Persona games. Persona is always going to be the high school series in the Megaten universe.

I was up and saw the announcement for Persona 5 for the PS4 when they made it but now I'm confused.

I see gaffers saying there's a article that says this Persona is going to be more mature which is confusing to me.

How are Persona 3 & 4 not mature stories? Has Persona Gaf played those games and experience those stories? Yeah they have the cheesy moments and light heartedness every now and then but look at the shit they go threw and choices they have to make! Those stories for those two games were not cookie cutter stories and in my opinion very mature.

Besides that I am pumped beyond belief to play this on my PS4 and if Atlus is going with a more serious tone for this story, awesome.

I need to find this article and read up on everything I missed about this game.

This was all I wanted and so happy to finally see something. Like the older persona feel I am getting from the character design, although I'm not in love with it right away. I'm sure it'll grow on me though, Shigenori Soejima is a man who knows what he is doing.

I find Western actors far too jarring and out-of-place in a game that's so quintessentially Japanese. The Persona games are very Japanese in essence, so it doesn't matter how adept the acting chops of Troy Baker and Laura Bailey are, it'll always bother me in the end. Same deal with the first Yakuza really - perfectly good Western actors in the roles, but when they're supposed to be portraying Japanese people in what is a very Japanese game, I just can't suspend my disbelief. When I see more and more games of late providing the option of dual audio, like Ni no Kuni, Danganronpa and Virtue's Last Reward, it really does make me want Atlus to see the light. Hell, even as a pre-order bonus or DLC, I'll bite.

I respect your opinion, and really that's why Dual Audio is a good thing so people can have choice. But for me, nothing was jarring at all about the dub. I thought they became the characters, and were a perfect match for their design and respected the attitudes/behaviors of the Japanese culture (or at least enough that I didn't find it jarring). I've played the game both in the original and dub, and I really just prefer the English VO. I mean, I'm with you for a lot of things. I usually prefer original VO because I do think something is lost in translation (even if the Dub has technically good voice actors). But I think they just nailed both P3 and P4.

That said, I can understand why some would prefer the original VO. So i hope for their sake, we get dual audio. Depending on who they get for the casting in this game, I might go with original VO too. It just depends.

.

A less silly male side kick, no talking bears and no comedy chapters like Kanji's would be a good start.

It's Atlus. They hate Japanese VO... hell, I'm surprised that they caved and included Japanese VO in the P4A games.

So you want more realism or a more serious tone for the game where you can summon daemons, gods, where murder occurs threw out the game, and where the main cast has to mentally deal with all that plus make sometimes make impossible choices all the while dealing with their personal crap?

How would you want the main cast to unwind and the player have in game moments where he/she can still play while processing everything that happened in game? The main cast goes out drinking or partying?

I get what you're saying and kind of agree, it's just how much mature can a main cast get than Persona 3 & 4 without ruining the series?

If they're going for full fledged cutscenes like Catherine i hope they voice the MC, having a silent one would ruin the immersion so much.
You can still have the player to select some phrases (and keep his personality kinda neutral), but at least he wouldn't look like a mannequin.

I like that these games are school kids facing outrageous problems. I personally don't need Persona:Hardline about some Tokyo cop team of special recruits that all can summon demons but I can see how some people do.

So then play any number of the other games in the Megaten universe. I'm not sure why people are so adamant on changing Persona. Shit, if you have a PS3 you can even get Nocturne, the DDS games, and the Raidou Kuzunoha games off PSN for dirt cheap.

And they got into all sorts of bother with that title for region locking it, due to the fear of reverse importation.

The reverse importing for this would probably be far lower, due to a fighting game not really requiring understanding dialogue/text, while for a jrpg that's a huge part of it. If the game isn't too big, I could see them having dual audio.

No chance in hell we are getting Dual Audio. P4A1 was a fluke.

But I would love to be surprised.
P4AU will likely have it (there's no evidence that it won't), however neither P4A nor P4AU were developed by Atlus.

When it comes to RPGs (especially Atlus developed ones), Atlus USA just hasn't shown that they care about dual audio.

They couldn't even get dual audio for Conception 2, which is published and developed by Spike Chunsoft, and usually Spike Chunsoft is pretty open about working dual audio deals in their games.

However the Persona series has always been a popular candidate for undubs and it is likely that Persona 5 will be undubed as well.

It's Atlus. They hate Japanese VO... hell, I'm surprised that they caved and included Japanese VO in the P4A games.
I'm guessing its just sort of expected for fighting games. Aquapazza (published by Atlus) only has JPN VO.

P4A is dual audio because Arc System Works deliberately bakes dual audio capability in their games. The BlazBlue games are also dual audio, even in Japan (except for story mode English voices and text, which are added to the NA version that comes 6 months later).

But for an Atlus-developed game, yeah, not gonna happen. Atlus seem dead set on never including Japanese audio in their games.

I'm sure that the sudden announcement of the PS4 port is the cause for the delay.

The localisation is already being produced in tandem with the delayed development, so if anything, I think the delay will minimise the Japan / USA split on Persona 5 releases.

Maybe they can even get it down to a worldwide release.

If the Tales team can manage a simultaneous release for Tales of Zestiria, then I don't see why Atlus couldn't manage to do the same with P5. It would be sweet if we did because then the chance of spoilers coming from Japan would be eliminated.

Europe would still get the shaft tho.

More Persona 3 and less Persona 4 in style would be welcome for P5. Unfortunately, probably not gonna happen.

I'd be down for something close to that. The story and themes of P3 had more weight to them and made the game more enjoyable. But really...the primary thing I want over anything else is better dungeon design.

oh this is awesome

i was holding on to my ps3 for this!

(as well as Darksouls 2 and Splintercell: Blacklist)

1 down 2 do go!!!

You're right, Persona never changed.

I personally want P5 to drop the silliness P4 had, not because it was bad but because P3 showed us how great a game it can be without it.

It took me 60+ hours over 6 months to beat Persona 4 Golden (kids will cut down your free time). It was my first Persona game and was totally worth it.

I need to figure out how to cut my game in half. I beat P3FES in about 140hrs and P4G in 130hrs. At least it only took me about 2 months per game.

Well, it at least seems that we have an urban setting, like P3. That may be more conducive to P3-style relationships which need to overcome an initial cold aloofness and emotional distance as opposed to the small-town, everyone's friends dynamic of P4.

why not? I certainly got more P3 vibes than P4 vibes from everything we have seen so far.

Because P4 is massively popular, even more so than P3 from what I've seen, in the fan community. Assuming the devs aren't stupid, they'd cash in on that as much as possible. The only thing that's noticeably similar to P3 based on the teaser movie we saw is just the setting and the color palette. It doesn't really speak to the characters or the story which is at the heart of the differences between P3 and P4.

Taking it out of highschool and making it super mature in 2014-15 would basically make it another SMT game. The fact that Persona (starting with 3) is lighthearted and campy compared to the other Megaten games is rather refreshing. To be honest, I think it's straight up absurd to want to tone down Persona and act like Atlus doesn't put out a whole host of super dark, serious games in the same universe. Most recently, TWO SMT games came out for the 3DS last year (and I say two, because Soul Hackers was never properly released in the USA before).

i remember when i graduated high school and i got my mature card, was a great day for me

Forget about the other SMT games for a minute, what's wrong with asking a new persona to adopt a more serious tone? And to be honest with you, I don't enjoy the other SMT games as much as I do Persona.

They never said Zestiria was a simultaneous release. They just said it would come out in the west the same year as Japan. That could mean up to 12 months.

Zestiria isn't simultaneous.

I hope they consider they have cashed in enough with all P4 related stuff that came out in the last 2 years (and are still coming).
I honestly wish they could make the game they want, without caonstraints because of fan demands.
