PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | September 2014

Today seems like a good night to no-life Danganronpa 2.

No-life? But this is Vita!

I got Danganronpa 2 today, but I have no idea when I'll actually be able to start playing it. Finishing Layton vs Wright comes first, don't want to have two visual-novely trial games on the burner at once.

I haven't even found time to play DR1.

Right now I am addicted to harvest moon back to nature. In the middle of year 2 now. That game is like crack.

Freedom Wars launching on Vita this year for US/US but an expansion will be on PS4. Dimps already got it for GE2 and sony will have them do it for this too. I think they plan on killing the series by splitting fan bases and confusing unlike capcom that does it by making it on one platform .

But in that case, Dimps is also making GE2 Burst for BOTH Vita and PS4. If Sony is making Freedom Wars Delta or something, then I find it very hard to imagine them only making the game for PS4 and not Vita.

Keep in mind that Vita is doing okay in JP. Heck, I would argue many JP developers/publishers prefer to work on Vita over PS4 (just look at how many PS4/PS3 games also had PS Vita versions alongside them), so.....I don't think Sony will be that stupid to make the sequel/delta version PS4 only.

If anything, I expect that example to be on PS4 and Vita (like how GE2 Burst is on PS4 and PS Vita).

I'm not saying they will not make for the Vita. They will , most user in Japan will buy Vita but it will hurt sales by having two versions like almost every game. It does not boost sales of hardware much either.

Capcom and Square understands the japanese market right of the money.

damn, I just check out the ps store update for this week and so many stuff I'm interested.

how is Fuse and SSX. is it worth $5 each? also, how's the framerates, I've been a little sensitive with bad framerate on last gen games after playing a bunch of solid framerate games in this gen. so if the game is known to have framerate issues like going to low 20s or even below that frequently, I'm probably going to pass on that game.

Well, it is reasonable for PS4 versions of these games to be made; if companies localize these tittles to the west, then they will sell more on PS4 compared to Vita. In Japan it also fills the gap of JP software that the system certainly lacks. I don't think it will hinder the market; the games content wise will be exactly the same across versions, only graphical stuff/frame rate/resolution being added to PS4.

It may not boost sales of the PS4, but it is the only thing Sony can really do right now. Many, if not all JP publishers/developers have no confidence in the PS4 despite it's success in US and EU. In Japan, it is only doing okay :(.

No way a company will make a JP game for PS4 without some kind of backup version on the more successful/desired console. That is why so many of the Pre-TGS show games had PS Vita/PS3 versions attached to the PS4 version; they don't have hope in PS4.

Once Final Fantasy XV (Ha XD! ......:() and Kingdom Hearts 3 land over there (hell, I think Persona 5 might push some sales :D), THEN JP publishers/developers will making games with PS4 only in mind.

Until then, we will continue to see PSV and PS3 games have PS4 versions. That is far from a bad thing :D.....but that seems to be the case for a while :l.

While I didn't play the latter, I did play the PS+ Trail of the former....it is only okay :l.

The game is basically what would happen if the Ratchet games were locked in Gears of War gameplay with co-op in mind but with out ANY of the personality and charm the series ever had. The gameplay is solid, with tight shooting controls and the weapons feeling good to use. The visuals are okay too; the added color Insomniac put in the game before launch makes it a bit more like how it originally going to look.....but still very far from it (meaning, it looks generic and boring X(). The characters are.....just there and the story is very by-the-numbers (at least for the first half hour I played).

The weapons aren't that great either, it looks pathetic compared to the Resistance and Ratchet games. Each character has one 'creative' weapon while they can carry another generic one. The thing is, the 'creative' weapons don't do that much. I mean, sure, one guy has the shield gun and one of the female characters have a black-matter assault rifle but they really don't do that much to separate themselves from the generic guns.

As you can tell from my bitter comments, I didn't like it that much X(. The game felt a lot like Epic Mickey in terms of its vision; a game with great ideas and potential but locked out of it and having a strong specter of compromise all over the game :(.

It still is a okay co-op shooter (probely will be a lot better then I'm describing here as it was built in mind for co-op play), so for 5 bucks it doesn't hurt to give it a shot :).

You pretty much said there's no reason to own a Vita then.

It will hinder the market in Japan, I'm was not even talking about west.

Niche games like this will sell if you advertise.

Last time I checked, Shift is still the developer of GE2.

And the primary developer of Free2playschemes Wars is Dimps.

But yeah, Gravity Daze and Freedom Wars will be on PS4, without vita versions.

....Well, I'm just saying that it is reasonable if they want there games to sell in the west (PS4 is a hit here after all :D).

I never said it would defeat the purpose of owning a Vita though X(. Japan is a place that is portable centric; people seem to have move all over there so portable gaming is likely there only way to game to begin with (I really don't know much about JP culture, just me guessing here :l). Besides, the PS4 isn't doing great there, so the Vita version will be the 'back-up' versions; the ones that sell the most while the PS4 versions are the ones that are 'there' to keep Sony happy.

The games were likely built with Vita in mind to begin with, so they will run and play the best on Vita :D.

I don't mean to be negative, but cross-platform games seem to be the case for JP support for PS4 right now. Just making some guesses here :l.

That's the company. Thanks for the correction.

Cross platform games from niche company is probably/likely because sony put in money and it doesn't kill the market for Vita in Japan at least. While it lasts.

Thanks for proving again there's no reason to own a Vita in west. I don't see PS4 games coming to Vita so more reason to own that than Vita since that gets few games here and there from japan. That is enough for us. That means Vita keeps living.

Yeah ok. Sounds like a dream plan to be happening like that for 8 more years.

The OST of Muramasa's 4th DLC is so good. Will they ever release or sell the DLC's OST?

I can see the future where the "last gen is holding back current gen's games" will be replaced with "The Vita is holding back current gen's games".

.....Damnit, your right X(! I can just see the threads of PS4-only people saying "OUR JP games are being held back by that handheld!'.......X(.

At the very least the Vita and PS4 will both be getting strong JP support this way :).

That's weird I didn't get any.
Never got these before:

We've already seen people complain that Vita is holding PS4 back. Look at the thread for Ys. Despite every Falcom 3D game looking like trash for its hardware, people are blaming Vita for that. Heck, one or two felt it's holding back the new Hot Shots, despite no Vita version existing.

You can't blame Vita for that, these companies are new to the hardware and sony probably put in money make up for the PS4 version.

Blame Sony if anything.

Someone should send Square Enix and Atlus that memo.

I don't mind Persona 5 only on consoles (for the time being). What I'm sad about is that we still don't get Persona 3 Azure on Vita. I mean, last time I read, P4G had sold more than 700k. If that's not good business then what is?

I've been wanting a new Mana game for a long while now.
sigh. I would be happy enough if they remastered Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu 3 for the Vita but oh well

---
sigh. this hating on the Vita really needs some moderation but who am I to say anything

I semi enjoyed Dawn of Mana, but this might be good. The music was great.

Heck, one or two felt it's holding back the new Hot Shots, despite no Vita version existing.

That was embarrassing. I couldn't understand why did they jump to that conclusion, and it's like they forgot how were the Japanese games have been all the time.

It might have something to do with this interview to Hiroshi Ueda from Gematsu:

“The number of players actively using PS Vita is quite high,” he asserted, “which has made creators and developers express their belief to us that they can sell games on the handheld… I think we’ll also see some games based on existing smartphone titles come to the PS Vita.”

This Mana game looks alright. But when I read these news the first thing that came to my mind was a Vita port of DQVIII. I want that so badly...

I does need some moderation. I still remember the ridiculous amount of PS4 owners port-begging for Tearaway while at the same time pissing on the Vita. Vita is as low profile as a handheld can be when compared to the PS4, but some people simply don't understand the concept of harmonious coexistence.

On top of that, I've still yet to see a PS4 owner complaining about the PS3 holding back a PS4 multiplat game. Although I'm starting to think Persona 5 will start that debate.

honestly, with ps4 games going PS3/Vita or PC (as in the case with MGSVPP) that console has less appeal for me now.

MGS going PC was the first nail, and if FFXV goes PC, that's it for me.

With almost a decade under development (and the costs that entails), I'd be surprised if FFXV doesn't come to PCs.
