Playstation to have state of play or showcase around end of September

Does anyone get excited for Sonys shows anymore? I can't remember the last great show they had? It has to of been back in 2020.

I wouldn't say it was "great," but the June State of Play with Lumines and Romeo is a Dead Man was pretty damn good. A solid B+.

I agree that State of Plays in general have been an extremely mixed bag. The February one was pretty awful outside of Saros. Almost as tedious and demoralizing as on of Keighley's shows.

I still think we are getting sop tomorrow/wednesday. I dont think sony would stream it after tgs has started because they probably have updates/announcements for games that will be there.

I used to be excited for these things because there was a chance they would show off amazing first party games but now I could care less about Sony's games. I watch only in the hope of some good 3rd party stuff, mostly from studios based in Asia.

We need some good news for the PS5 Pro because the consoles support is getting worse and worse. People who dropped $800 for it have to be getting annoyed/worried at this point.

Yotei is less than 2 weeks away and we don't know if it's getting any enhancements outside of the bare minimum. We had a game like Borderlands 4 release without Pro support, despite having had its own State of Play! Cronos with no support. MGS Delta that looks and performs worse than base PS5...it's rediculous

How about some good news like Yotei getting a nice boost to graphical settings? Or a deal has been made with devs of aome big games that haven't had Pro support like Cyberpunk? How about giving us a demonstration of how the upcoming FSR4/pssr 2 improves image quality without the noise/artifacting issues we see in so many games? Or how Sony plans to back patch pssr2 into existing games?

The last few have been absolutely awful and the general quality of them has declined each year since the PS5 launch.

That said, I always hold a higher level of hope for a good one around September given it could be great for Japanese 3rd party games.

I imagine what's going on is that since Sony are prepping their PSSR upgrade for next year, devs are waiting on that.

There's little point in expending the effort on the existing PSSR and Pro enhancements when come next year they might have to face fully reworking it all.

That's a good point ...but if that's the case you'd think Sony would still dedicate a minute to like ...express that to people so we don't think the system is being totally disregarded ...because that's how it feels right now. Hate the way Sony has handled this whole thing.

So they should announce it today right ?

It could be. Usually 9AM or 12PM EST announcement. Latest 1PM. It's usually within that window of time they make those announcements.

My bet is tomorrow with Wednesday being the "event" to perhaps be in the forefront of TGS, but who knows.

We still don't know if it's SoP or if it's a showcase though. Grub mentions it could be either one and Nate The Hate says "presentation".

None of these shows have been good for 20+ years. Gaming has stratified so much that no one ever likes more than 10% of the games shown. You just have to look for the nuggets of gold in the mountains of sh**.

I feel sorry for people commenting and spending their energy on something they don't like for 2 decades if this is true.

We need to look at this in the perspective of Japan time zones. Are you American? By the time they start a new day, you're still at late morning hours.
Tokyo Game Show is set from Thursday, September 25th to Sunday, September 28th. In Japan, you can't (well, you can, but Sony has absolutely never done it, ever) set the State of Play broadcast on any of the following days of the week past Wednesday, September 24th, which would be Tuesday, September 23rd for us.
In the Americas (and a good chunk of the rest of the West), we usually have State of Play broadcasts on Wednesdays and Thursdays. In Japan, they get them on Thursdays and Fridays early in the morning. Last year, when SIE returned to TGS (starting Thursday, September 26th) as a general exhibitor, they purposefully set the SoP broadcast just a day before the event, those that never usually get it; a Wednesday (September 25th) in Japan, and Tuesday (September 24th) for us.
Returning to our perspective, a new State of Play broadcast will get announced tomorrow morning, for Tuesday in the afternoon.

TL;DR: Earth is an oblate spheroid.

Earth is getting flatter by the minute

Kind of glad it hasn't been announced...for selfish reasons. I'm going to be out of town tomorrow so later in the week works better for me.

Thanks Sony!

It will just be another 30-40 minutes of stale, cross gen looking souls like games with some low effort remakes/remasters no one wanted sprinkled in.
