Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

I wasn't entirely serious about Sakurai not liking Retro lol. I should of put "kidding" or something lol. I'm just really pissed off at Donkey Kongs treatment.

None of the Hunters in that deserve any representation more than an AT. Ridley, or hell, even Dark Samus are much more worthy of roster spots.

Hey, guys.

My account was finally validated, just in time for a new thread!

I've been a l
ur
ker for a while now. ;)

Oh and btw, it's extremely difficult to keep up with you... the hype is real! Haha

Ello! Welcome to GAF and more importantly Smash GAF. Prerelease edition!(supposedly)

Echoes as well.

Actually, I was just thinking about how well City Trial / Smash Run gameplay would fit multiplayer Metroid. Getting through a labyrinth as efficiently as possible while picking up powerups is essentially the core of a Metroid game, so any organic multiplayer within it would naturally include that concept. And the end of round matches don't have to all be PvP combat, either - morph ball or traversal races, competitive boss battles or wall jumping competitions could all work.

I'm not really "pissed off" at the lack of any new DK or Metroid characters, but I do find it very disappointing that it seems Sakurai places DK and Metroid very low on the list of importance, especially with the resurgence of the DK franchise.

I never argued for the Hunters being added as playable characters.
As a matter of fact, I've argued against those characters becoming playable for lack of relevancy to the series before.
I refuted the quoted poster's false information that Metroid ALWAYS has been a 1-player experience with no other playable characters.
Metroid Prime Hunters has a multiplayer mode in which it's possible to play the other Hunters.

I bought it day one. Made it 40 minutes into the game and realized it was a hallway simulator with some boss fights. Never picked it up again.

It was the first Metroid Prime I played and it was totally disappointing for a Metroid game and I started to hate that series. How can you repeat so many times the same bosses and not have upgrades apart from the other beams?

Luckily I played the real games later and they were excellent, but it was a rough start.

So… just out of curiosity, who would you guys say are the 10 most iconic/notable Nintendo characters yet to be playable in Smash Bros.? Here’s my list, not in any particular order:

  1. Toad
  2. Dixie Kong
  3. Too many Pokémon to name (Meowth, Eevee, Blaziken, etc.)
  4. Nintendog
  5. Dr. Kawashima
  6. Isabelle (and other Animal Crossing characters like K.K. Slider and Tom Nook)
  7. Excitebiker
  8. Balloon Fighter
  9. King K. Rool
  10. Ridley

1. Toad
2. A LOT of Pokemon
3. Waluigi
4. Tom Nook/K.K. Slider/Isabelle
5. Dixie Kong
6. Ridley
7. King K. Rool
8. Goomba
9. Koopa Troopa
10. King Hippo

Some of these guys will probably never make it into Smash, I know (minor minion dudes like Koopa and Goomba), but I can see a few of 'em happening by, like, Smash 6.

This is in no specific order, mind you.

Literally all of the original 151 Pokemon are more "iconic" than Dixie Kong
Dixie Kong has two games to her name and is arguably the hero of Donkey Konga II. Most of the first 151 couldn't even dream of that.

That's factual facts.

I agree that the original 151 pokemon are more iconc than dixie is

Dont worry though we got 2 new kid icarus reps though, 1 of which was an alt costume in brawl.

Yeah, I really found it strange because I was so sure that we are getting new Donkey Kong Representative due to three new games (DKCR, DKCR 3DS, and DKCR2)

I was so sure that Dixie Kong would be in the game, but I was so wrong. I think Dixie have potential to be amazing fighter with Bubble Gun and Hairs as weapons.

I guess they are going to save her for Next Gen Smash or DLC.

The level of disrespect and bad treatment to DK and Metroid is just sickening. These two series are totally being shafted. Does Sakurai have something against retro studios?

Seriously. I know the ships may have sailed, but just in case: I'm down to see Dixie or K. Rool for DK newcomers and only Ridley as a Metroid newcomer.

I'm not down on the current leaked roster at all, but I do feel bad that there are some missed opportunities.

So apparently the timeframe for Shulk's Vision counterattack to work shrinks the more you use it. I wonder if that's got a cooldown, sort of like stale moves, or if it's only reset when you die? Do the timeframes for counterattack moves to work normally shrink like that for other characters like Marth?

I feel like most of the characters are there, outside of maybe another Mario/Pokemon and a DK character. They're just gonna have to hope that Nintendo makes more characters before the next one.

Honestly, Hunters COMPLETELY slipped my mind.

But my basic point still stands...

Pokemon is a series known for a wide-array of characters you can control. Donkey Kong always has two characters working in tandem. Mario and his friends continuously get together and go on adventures, or play sports.

Metroid is DEFINED as basically being one woman up against an army. Only having Samus playable fits the series' style.

Of course, I wouldn't mind Smash, or hell, Metroid itself introducing more playable characters. Who knows, maybe Metroid will get a new game and introduce a character popular enough to be included in Smash 5.

I think that if Sakurai shows any remorse for the lack of specific characters, DLC will be extremely possible for them. So if he talks about how he wanted to make a Rhythm Heaven character work, or how he wanted Dixie to show up as a playable charaacter, we will see them

Someday

EDIT: I don't think the "representation of how the series go" works - at least, not here. DK64 established a precedence that DK can have more than just two characters.

Dixie Kong is iconic. The most endearing DKC title has her as one of its stars, and there's no way that tons of people don't know her.

I'd consider her Nintendo's 2nd leading lady...

And unlike Samus, no one gets her name wrong or thinks she's a dude.

MP3 ending coughcough

Nothing to worry about there. A very large amount of the newcomers this time didn't exist when Brawl came out.

This is the only robbery as far as the Metroid series is concerned.

We have Skyworld and Skyloft. I don't think adding Skytown to the list would be a particularly good idea. Not that a Metroid Prime stage shouldn't have been included - but it should have been something a little more unique, like the Phendrana Ice Temple, Artifact Temple, Sanctuary Fortress, Phaaze or Bryyo.

You don't know how much this actually annoys me. I'm fine with KI getting 2 new reps, but the fact that one is a clone that was already an alt color in the previous game on top of DK and Metroid not getting new characters is actually really aggravating. They could have at least given us Dixie and Dark Samus as clones or something.

Would you be happy if Dixie Kong and Dark Samus barely had any differences from Diddy and Samus?

I'd consider her Nintendo's 2nd leading lady...

What about Tiny Kong, I'm sure people have made that mistake
