Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

It will becoming increasingly difficult to time the move the more you use it. The timing on your first usage will probably be rather forgiving, but that window of opportunity will shrink the more times you use Vision.

That's interesting. A counter that becomes harder to pull out the more you use it. I think that's the first time I've heard about it for any character with a counter move.

I just got a look at the latest Famitsu, so here is all the new-ish information about Shulk!

  • Neutral Special: Monado Arts - kanji appears behind Shulk, press button to change to a different art (stance), every boost is counterbalanced by a debuff (*see below)
  • Side Special: Back Slash - swings his extended blade down on the opponent, wide-ranged attack but leaves Shulk wide open, deals more damage when striking opponent from behind
  • Up Special: Air Slash - slices upward while jumping, press button again to perform an extra attack
  • Down Special: Vision - use the Monado's clairvoyant powers to read the opponent's attack and deliver a counterstrike, window of usability decreases with each successive use
  • Final Smash: Chain Attack - scene cuts away, Dunban and Riki appear on-screen, Shulk and his comrades unleash a series of attacks against the opponent(s) directly in front of them
*List of Monado Arts:
  • 翔 (Jump): higher jumps, lower defense
  • 疾 (Speed): faster movement, weaker attacks
  • 盾 (Shield): higher defense, slower movement
  • 斬 (Buster): stronger attacks, weaker launch ability
  • 撃 (Smash): stronger launch ability, weaker attacks, lower defense against launching
Soooooooo much better sounding than the six second video we saw nearly a fortnight ago. Really glad Shulk got in, Monolith Soft deserved it.

I really like the sound of the vision.

Counters are generally too difficult to pull off so I never bother with them and it becomes a wasted attack slot, so having a more lenient one (for at least a couple of uses) sounds much better to me.

Nah, october's practically reserved for the 3DS version, November is probably where it's at. And no, I don't expect any ridiculous delay because they've already announced amiibos coming out along with the WiiU version this year, and amiibos will NEVER get delayed, they're Nintendo's strong card this holiday season

I thought so too, but they could always release the 3DS dongle for NFC..

Kind of interested to see what they use for Shulk's custom moves. The directional specials would be easy enough to work off, but the intricacy of the neutral B would necessitate some creative alternate versions. I'm expecting them to be very different moves that use the same animations, like Kirby's ice breath.

This moveset makes so much sense it's almost making me strip to my underpants.

Pic of the day. Here's one of the final battles in Smash Run, called "Run!" As you'd expect, it involves you dashing toward the finish line. In general, the fighters who are fast by default, equipped with speed-boosting equipment, and powered-up with speed boosts over the course of that Smash Run will have the advantage. However, speed isn't the only factor that will determine who will be victorious...

Those red things in the picture are called danger zones, and if you touch one, you'll get penalized by respawning farther back in the stage!! The danger zones disappear after someone else touches them, so fighters following those in the lead will have an advantage. You can still find speed boosts throughout the stage, so it'll be a heated battle 'till the end!!

Here's another final battle called "Climb!" Obviously, those that can jump or fly higher will have the advantage, but they also have to avoid the danger zones!! It gets pretty challenging if you've boosted your speed too much, as well. Everyone really gets into this when playing multiplayer.

On phone, sorry for delay.
Nice update, I like it!

Thanks for the info, Masked Man!

The additions to his counter move make sense, considering he had different animations for the same move in his intro video. Maybe it changes depending on how many successful times you've used it.

Still a bit concerned about the art change changing mechanic. Pressing a button over and over might be confusing and lead to errors in the heat of a battle.

So it's effectively a speed platformer along a reasonably fixed path with heading towards areas filled with 'danger zones'?

There's only one possible choice of music for it.

Have you played the indie game Speedrunners? It's a very fun 4 player Smash inspired runner in which you have to run as fast as possible to make the scroll follow you and kill your oponents by leaving them off the screen. I think these challenges may have a similar concept.

Yay thread 15.
Im still hurt about Ice Climbers. The pain never goes away.

Allso, its early days, but this has to the the thread name for thread 16 if we make it before the US launch.

LETHAL LEAGUE.

STOP FUCKING AROUND AND BUY THIS GAME IF YOU HAVE A EVEN REMOTELY DECENT GAMING PC.

Jesus it's so fucking rad....and I have to imagine most Smash fans would love it. The presentation is almost identical, and the gameplay is intriguing in the same type of ways Smash is.

It's godlike I tell you. Godlike.

Yeah, I heard a fair bit about this game and it looks fun. Is there a demo of it anywhere? I would like to at least try it out first, see how it goes.

Apparently, they used to have a free version running on a website. I couldn't find it though. They might've gotten rid of ot once the payed version came out.
