Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

AKA Legend of Zelda syndrome

"SSB4 sucks, Brawl was actually pretty awesome in hindsight" confirmed?

Oh god, I wonder if that'll happen.

If anything, it'll be the kids whose first smash was brawl... finally being old enough to come on to the internet and say that smash 4 wasn't as good as brawl for X reason.

Zelda's a bit different though, since smash is MOSTLY an additive game (same as the old, tweak it, add new stuff), whereas all new zeldas are entirely different (new setting, new dungeons, new items, new story, etc).

I do fully expect nostalgia to kick in for some young kids, but in my household, thanks to the opinions the kids read on the internet, they have been persuaded to think melee is better than brawl, because the internet said so. They have convinced themselves they agree, too. Half of them don't even know how to air dodge, yet melee is better because it has wavedashing and it's more competitive. Sigh.

You see what you melee fanboys are doing? You've convinced people who couldn't beat a lvl 3 computer that melee is better than brawl. BECAUSE WAVEDASHING.

I want tripping back now as a option.
Dead serious.

Tripping DLC, 5.99, comes with tripping option and 5 assist trophies and 6 pokeballs who do nothing but trip your opponents.

How to make tons of money - 19.99 directional air dodge dlc. :p

I am literally losing sleep over smash bros right now. I haven't been this excited for a game since I was a little kid. Even moreso than brawl, I think. There's no way i'm not getting smash bros in ~8 days. I'd die waiting til november.

lol, I understand. I really hated Brawl
and MKWii and after playing MK8
but I am excited for what they have instore for Smash Wii U. Hopefully the online holds up and they learned from the last one.

I hope tournament feature from MK8 comes to Smash.

exactly. we don't appreciate how good the smash games are because we don't get all the bad and mediocre ones. It's like FPS only had Half Life. That's one of the main points why i can't believe many fans are eager to get Sakurai off the franchise.
I haven't heard this, but if true, yikes. I can't imagine anyone other than Sakurai handling the series properly.

Well Kamiya can do anything I suppose <3

Thanks amigo, I really appreciate that. I hope to see you all around GAF still!
I don't mean to question your decision, but I find it odd that you mentioned only playing Brawl 2 or 3 times, right before saying you enjoy games with more "franchise accurate" experiences and less mindless fighting. Because that sounds exactly like what Brawl's Subspace Emissary mode is! A fleshed out campaign mode full of great scenes mixing the best Nintendo characters interacting with each other to defeat a common threat.

It might not be the absolute best execution-wise, but if you really didn't play it, you really might want to check it out as it sounds right up your alley :P

I personally like great party games, which Smash most definitely is. In fact, I bet I would love it even if it wasn't Nintendo characters fighting. My friends and I have tons of fun playing it and that's my main purchase reason. So, if you're not a big fan of mindless party games or prefer more fleshed out single player experiences, I can totally see why you'd feel Smash isn't for you, and worry about all the fan service sucking you in for a game you won't actually like.

It hasn't really come to a head yet, but you can bet you'll see a lot of "what was he thinking?" complaints when more people realize more clones were added, that Ganondorf is still the same, that Ridley isn't playable, etc.

Damn, it's a shame Smash Bros doesn't appeal you. I hope Nintendo releasing stuff like NintendoLand, amiibos, and the Mario Kart dlc is a good indication that we'll get more crossover games similar to Smash, but that can appeal to an even wider audience!

Thanks Kouichi! I'd really love if we ended up getting a Nintendo Land 2 or DLC.

I'm actually expecting the quality and playablity of Smash 3DS to be surprisingly high. You'll all get sucked into it!

I don't doubt that. Analogy time:

Smash4 3DS will be like (one of) the most tasty cakes I've ever eaten. Some of the frosting and decoration aren't perfect, but it won't affect the way it tastes.

Smash4 WiiU will be the same cake with a slightly different frosting and much better looking decorations, but it tastes exactly the same as the first cake. HOWEVER when eating the second cake I'll have friends over, joking, enjoying ourselves just having a good time.

So in the end both cakes taste excellent, but I had way more fun eating the second one.

Maxcriden :(

Potential November for Wii U version? Since Amiibos should be released with WIi U version, or near to it

No.1 Mario
No.9 Villager
...

Oh my God, they are numbered?

I don't know, I would think so, especially from his game where he yells out all of his attacks. XP

Oh, does he? I guess it would be accurate to the source material, then, but I think I could still do without being constantly reminded of which art Shulk is using at any given time. ;P

The thread OP is clearly not final and the rest will be DLC released alongside the Wii U version.

Heath's taking too long. I say we just leave it to Alfonzo to make the thread!

Haha, oh...Tripping never bothered me that much, but I'm a bit surprised that there are people that actively want it back...

Well if you grew up with it I suppose. It was literaly the first thing I modded out once the code wa released and with that the only problem I ever had with Brawl's gameplay vanished just like that :3

Tripping. I have an idea for people who want tripping in Smash, again. If you play with me, I will just slap the controller out of your hands every couple of minutes. No charge.

Smash Bros Wii U will come out the week of my birthday (Nov 10th-16th) or the week after, this is the week that they always release their biggest holiday title. It's the two week period ahead of black friday, so they always try to get stuff out before then.

I'd be shocked if the release date wasn't in this period.

I almost has to be, they have nothing else to release. Well, I guess it could be captain toad, and smash could be December.

Pic of the day. Here's one of the final battles in Smash Run, called "Run!" As you'd expect, it involves you dashing toward the finish line. In general, the fighters who are fast by default, equipped with speed-boosting equipment, and powered-up with speed boosts over the course of that Smash Run will have the advantage. However, speed isn't the only factor that will determine who will be victorious...

Those red things in the picture are called danger zones, and if you touch one, you'll get penalized by respawning farther back in the stage!! The danger zones disappear after someone else touches them, so fighters following those in the lead will have an advantage. You can still find speed boosts throughout the stage, so it'll be a heated battle 'till the end!!

Here's another final battle called "Climb!" Obviously, those that can jump or fly higher will have the advantage, but they also have to avoid the danger zones!! It gets pretty challenging if you've boosted your speed too much, as well. Everyone really gets into this when playing multiplayer.

On phone, sorry for delay.

This is definitely gonna be fun to play.

I'm sure they'd like to, and probably will, but it seems obvious to me that they're scrambling to get the Wii U version out in time. If the Wii U was selling gangbusters like the Wii was I bet the game would've been delayed to 2015 a while ago. But they know that the Wii U absolutely cannot afford to have this game delayed.

Toad is 2015 for Europe and Smash is still listed as winter 2014 not Holiday 2014 like it is for the US

Europe's fucked

Europe doesn't have black friday, though.

In the US, if one of your big games isn't out by black friday, it's a pretty big deal. You'll lose out on a good chunk of sales, since a percentage of the population 'finishes' christmas shopping by black friday.

I don't know what the numbers or metrics are, but I assume that if smash is out AFTER black friday, it could potentially hurt its sales.

Nintendo better release smash u world wide
On the same date

Hah. I wouldn't count on it. So far the only nintendo game to ever do that is... pokemon x/y? Are ORAS even doing that?

Ok game. Closer to PS All Stars than Smash
Other games seem to not understand the beauty of the percent system. It makes the whole game dynamic, with moves having different results most of the time. Combined with DI, it's just kinda brilliant overall.

The knock offs seem to think putting characters in a fighting game and letting them jump around is enough.

Nothing really implies scrambling.

They're just focusing the QA testers on 3DS version first, and then putting them on the Wii U version second. The Wii U version could actually be done, for all we know. It really comes down to QA.

Nintendo better release smash u world wide

Of course they will. It will be sad if it was a Japan-only game, you know.

I'm just kidding :p I know what you mean. But I think at worst it would be a few days difference between NA/EU and JP dates. It's a holiday game anyway.

Edit: Damn it you edited it :p

True. But what really bothers me with those games are the controls or the feel of the attacks. Smash is so smooth and you can feel the damage you deal or receive.

I don't really think they're scrambling. Assuming they release in late November, that gives them all of September and October to bug test just the Wii U version, and still have time to print in November. And that doesn't even count any already spent time bug testing on top of that.

Hell, it's probably more time than Melee was bug tested for.
