It's like some of y'all fellas just want Jason Fabok's boring ass to draw everything ever.

I don't know, I think Messi and I were being pretty fair. Calling Pulido inconsistent isn't that big of a stretch.

I love art and for years I wanted to be an artist-- unfortunately I did have to make the difficult decision to give up on my dream, but you get the idea. I purchase artbooks for artists and series I love and I've purchased many comics off of the art alone. I would never want to see every book from the big two look generic and "house"-styled. I love that Marvel has been using a bunch of different artists lately (like on Ghost Rider, Elektra, and Ms. Marvel) and I'm happy to see DC doing the same with some newer books like Gotham Academy.

I am reading American Vampire Vol 4. This book is something special. Rafael Albuquerque deserves some awards. I love every single page of the Death Race storyline so far.

Southern Bastards this week was the best of the week and best of its first arc. Damn, if my company worked on licensed content, I would pitch this story as a mature game.

I get that Pulido may not do it for you, and his aesthitics may not align with yours, but how is he inconsistent? Every issue he's done has panels that floor me and he's always able to pull off expressive, fun, and narrative-bolstering art. Like, what, because his eyes aren't perfect and beautiful, using your guys' Perfect Face standards, he's suddenly shit?

I mean, some of you guys post statues that have hilariously awful and uncomfortable faces that you bought for a fuckton more money than a Pulido book, and you're all goofy-eyed over them, so I'm not sure how seriously I can take the Perfect Face Brigade.

Finally read Southern Bastards #4... Anyone else think that
his daughter is coming for him or that Earl is still alive? I doubt the latter.

This should be a show on HBO and it'd win Emmys.

I'd watch every minute of it. Add in football segments, potentially flesh out the town and a few more characters and you have a TV show I'd pay HBO for. It could be on the level of Deadwood.

OH. MY. GOODNESS.
I JUST READ DOOM PATROL #57. MY MIND WAS BLOWN APART AND SHATTERED TOO MANY TIMES.
Obviously the whole Caulder being an evil genius thing was totally nuts, BUT THEN THE CANDLEMAKER USING CAULDER'S NEW ROBOT AS HIS PHYSICAL BODY AND RIPPING CAULDER'S HEAD OFF. AND THEN THE CANDLEMAKER TAKING CLIFF'S BRAIN AND SQUISHING IT. HOLY HELL THAT WAS INSANE.
My face has been like this for like 5 minutes now: O_O

And I thought things were getting crazy the last few issues...
To think this was already my favorite run of all time. This ending is just making sure that no other comic will ever take its place in that top spot.

How about you don't take it so personally?

Sometimes he draws great faces sometimes he doesn't in my opinion. That makes him inconsistent in my eyes. Usually he is good but other times I wonder what happened. It's not just faces, it happens in various places. It's all about personal taste. Not everyone's art is going to suit everyone.

You don't have to defend him, nor do you have to throw insults back.

Pulido has always excelled at paneling and layouts, he's great at that. His splash pages usually look good as well. But, I do find a lot of the facial expressions in She-Hulk to come across as distracting. I don't remember them ever looking like that in his previous work on things like Hawkeye or the Black Cat mini (it's been a while since I've read them). I've never called him shit, so you don't have to keep going on with the sweeping generalizations. I like a lot of his work, and I've said this before.

And to be fair, I don't think the coloring is really helping. The large amounts of bright colors look great but the shading usually looks very awkward. I think using solid shadows instead of soft shadows and gradients, like what Hollingsworth did in Black Cat and Hawkeye, would look MUCH better. Coloring does make a big difference in the end and I'm willing to believe that it's affecting my view of the interiors on She-Hulk.

haha yesssss! tbh I forgot all those bits apart from the first one and reading your summary reminded me. It's that "no... omg no! What the FUCK NO!" escalation, such an amazing comic.

The cover to #57 was brilliant as well. Caulder always seemed like an asshole but I definitely did not expect something like that.

Don't think it world work as anything other than an adventure game to be honest. It's a slow burner, it's personal, and
only one person is confirmed dead.

Depending on how long the series goes on, it could be a lovely tv show.

AAAAAAAAAH. DOOM PATROL #58
For the first two-thirds of that issue, before it was explained by Cliff's mind being stored in a computer, I was so unbelievably confused and broken in the absolute best way possible.
This final arc is shattering my universe again and again with every page that I turn.

Yeah, totally. Incredible stuff.
Also, I think you were one of the main people who convinced me that reading this was a good idea, so a million thank yous for that.

Totally agree on both points.

I can't even imagine what it was like to follow Doom Patrol each month, it must have been incredible

I would go nuts with the wait. Especially with this grand finale ending. I wouldn't be able to handle it.
However, one thing I have noticed throughout the whole run is that Morrison is fantastic at reminding you about things that happened previously or re-stating something that happened that was pretty confusing and you may not have quite understood the first time. Throughout the series, he's been doing that in a way that is completely fluid and seems totally natural.

You need to get rid this "then you just have shit taste" mentality for addressing people that disagreeing you, its fucking insulting. Always come up fast in these debate.

Yes there's some cool splash in Pulido's She-Hulk but there must've something happen if people can post some odd looking page in their opinion at every month, you want the whole world turn blind for that or what?

WTH dude your second paragraph does exactly what you're chiding him doing in the first paragraph!!!!

Holy GOD that's amazing seriously.

Some quick thoughts after having not visited this thread for a couple weeks:

1) Messi has the prettiest avatar! <3
2) You guys sure post a lot. I don't want to miss anything, every post could have a recommendation that could change my life!
3) I recently bought the X-Statix omnibus. I think I need a licence for this, it's so big and dangerous! I'll start reading it in two weeks time when I get back to my place in Warsaw since I'm currently at home with my parents.
4) My copy of Multiversity #1 is still on the way >:( Hopefully I'll get it next week.
5) I decided to read Warren Ellis' novel, "Gun Machine", and it was awesome! He's quickly becoming one of my favourite writers. After loving Planetary I think I should check out Transmetropolitan.

Also, how has everyone been doing? :)

I present to you the single greatest cover in comics history.

How come?

I tell him other people also can see the strong point but can still notice the weaker point around the book, its all about the perspective. Not just simply black and white, "you all just like pretty face" and shit. Some comic from Image won't popular in here if that's the case.

"derp face" is not a term signaling fair and understanding discourse. It's saying "you like ugly art", exactly what you called him out on.

I read it monthly. Imagine waiting a month after that.

Oh geez. Well, I commend your patience. I would burst at the seams having to wait a month after that.

Regarding the X-Statix omnibus, you're in for a treat. Such great comics.

And I've been doing pretty well, thanks! How about you?

Look I'm on the side that generally isn't bothered by weird faces, but then again I can't stand Brett Booth because of his godawful faces in addition to an already bland-ass style, so.

I will say that i can understand the Pulido hate, but more so that i found the issues i read to be rather static and flat. Could've just been that the writing bored me so much that the art couldn't save it.

and what the god danged hell at a new Secret Six without Deadshot, c'mon. fucking New Suicide Squad. At least Ken Lashley gets to launch a book. See, that dude is pure house style, and I like him (on covers and sketches, not actually sure on interior work)

However you guys may have felt about her Batgirl run (if this what this is in reference to) I really feel that her Red Sonja run has been really enjoyable. Mind you, this is someone who had no prior experience to Red Sonja before hand, outside of the cultural osmosis one gets about such things.

Yea I thought her Batgirl was super mediocre but i liked the issue i've read of RS. I'll pick up the trades eventually

I am so fucking tired of the elitist attitude and hostility in this thread. Stop taking shit so seriously! There's a reason there's not just one single comic, written by one single person, drawn by one single artist. Because everyone has different tastes, and I genuinely cannot understand why so many of you have a hard time getting that.

"Oh so and so doesn't like this art. Your opinion sucks! You have horrible taste!"

WTF.

Says who!?

I fucking love She-Hulk, Jen is awesome and while Pulido is not my favorite artist, I've grown to appreciate and enjoy his work.

Stop with this judgemental attitude, and especially with the personal attacks and insults. You are literally gaining nothing from it, it's not like you're making money off of defending someone's work.

And honestly, I would take someone like Fiona Staple's work over Frank Quitely, Javier Pulido or whoever else we decide needs to be hung for hating. And why yes, I'll enjoy my statues, with their perfect faces and all.

Remember, comics are for everybody.

Ugh I know.
What time are you guys getting there?

I don't know. Early bird gets the worm mentality wants to get there at 10. Then I would be down there quite some time though to get everything done with certain people only available at certain times.

You?

Oh geez. Well, I commend your patience. I would burst at the seams having to wait a month after that.

Not due to my willpower or anything, I mean I actually read the monthly floppies when they came out back then.

We're definitely gonna try and get there at 10 to hit up Skottie Young and Ryan Browne, but may leave for a bit and come back in the afternoon because my wife really wants to see Young's panel at 3.

Exactly... no one gains anything from it, and it increases the chances that the community as a whole loses potential new contributors. If I was brand new and came into this thread during the last page or so, I'd probably never have come back.

10/10, would nod in agreement again.
